Mine was a Longines Master Collection Chrono/Full Calendar/Moonphase. Longines give astounding value for money from a long established, well respected, under-the-radar brand.
My first luxury watch was a used Omega Speedmaster 3513. I got it shortly after graduating college in 2017. I paid about $1500 for it, and it has been a part of my collection ever since. Great list, there were a few there that I didn’t think about!
The Tissot PRX really is such a solid choice here and can rightfully be considered entry level luxury - the fit & finish, use of materials and overall panache is amazing at the price
I got the exact model they showed for my first luxury watch. I have yet to lose the “wow” factor for it. Looks phenomenal with the blue leather integrated strap that they sell - I picked one of those up when they were available. It’s such a pretty watch to stare at.
@@Mrgreen765 The only real difference besides the movement (which is still a solid quartz movement and will keep fantastic time) is the dial. The quartz is sunburst and the automatic is waffled. I think both are beautiful. I got what I got Because I was in the market to get my first “luxury“ mechanical watch. If I had gotten a quartz, I would not be disappointed.
@thenotaclan Do you actually own a PRX then? It’s extremely uncomfortable IME and is an integrated bracelet that you are lucky if fits you a good introduction to luxury watches?
@@alfieakaronaldog The links are removable and there are micro steps at the clasp. I actually switched over to the blue integrated strap that Tissot makes for it and rarely, if ever use the bracelet at this point. I’ve grown to prefer the look of the leather option.
Great to see you guys have caught on to Christopher Ward & the value that they provide across the full range of their watches. As a company they deserve huge praise in their push to become one of the go to brands for that first & subsequent purchase of luxury watches. They do so with excellent build quality & great use of dial colour & strap combinations.
Great to hear this and definitely agree, I’ve other higher end value watches but still keep my Christopher ward elite 1000. Just awesome bang for buck IMO
Couldn’t agree more! I own other brands, Tudor, Oris, Hamilton and Omega. I just recently purchased the Sealander GMT and it hasn’t left my wrist. I literally wear it everyday. Absolutely love it. I’ve got my eye on the C60 Trident Pro 300 as my next Christopher Ward purchase. Amazing value for money
Tom, you’re stepping up your game. Some really good analysts and down right funny comments. These videos make me want to go shopping every morning when I wake up. Thanks
Additional brands worth your consideration IMO are Frederique Constant, Maurice Lacroix, Bulova, Cartier, Nomos, Sinn, and Zodiac. My first Swiss luxury watch was the Tissot Le Locle Powermatic 80.
Nomos for the Win! Honestly such a tremendous bang for the buck! Preloved is even a better bargain- my 733 Club Datum red hands- was $1400 very gently used .
Love that Longines! Rare enough to stand out from the crowd, and it looks like it cost twice what it does. Tissot was my first "luxury" watch as well - the PRX was a bit too chunky for my taste, and I ended up selecting the Gentleman model -- one of the most undervalued/under-rated watches on the market.
I don't own a luxury watch yet but what I do have is a brilliant Mido GMT, it's a dive/sports watch that looks just as good in the water or on a field as it does in a suite and tie.
Mine was a Tudor BB58. Still own it & always will. Continues to be a fave in the collection despite adding many more pieces. Also own the GS in the video. Gorgeous dark blue dial & 9F means it’s a grab & go! 👍🏻
My first “luxury” watch was a Tissot Visodate a few years ago. My current daily driver is a Christopher Ward C63 Sealander, which I wear far more than my Omega Aqua Terra. Great watch!
Great list fellas 👍 My first luxury watch was the Oris Big Crown ProPilot. Given my relatively modest watch budget it represented quite a substantial leap from the just over £300 I’d previously spent on my most expensive watch at the time but it’s proven to have been well worth it. I’ve since added an Oris Aquis to my collection but the ProPilot is absolutely my go to watch for anything and everything other than activities that require a beater.
Bought a speedmaster for my first luxury watch. Been in love with ever since and it's my daily driver. Never gets dull no matter how other people feel about it.
I was never really into watches til last month, I was just strolling inside a mall and just for the heck of it, I entered a Tag Heuer Boutique. The salesperson there allowed to try on some of the displays and something in me fell in love with watches. I almost bought coz of impulse a Carrera Calibre 5 grey dial. Good thing I got back to my senses and decided to check other options and reviews. After a month of watching youtube watch influencers, entering other boutiques and trying on some watches, I finally pulled the trigger and bought my first ever entry level luxury watch few days ago.. Longines Spirit 40mm Sunray Blue Dial.. 😊
My first mechanical watch was that blue Tag Heuer Carrera Date purchased last year since a 36mm Rolex OP wasn't available. Since then I was able to get a blue 36mm OP but I still wear this watch from time to time and it's the only watch I take with me on travel. It's a great watch
Sinn 556 always seems to be missed, different level of quality compared to some of these for sub £1500. Regulated in house prior to sale ( or so the legend goes) Certainly extremely accurate given the price. Another notable point is the amazing H link bracelet that Sinn do.
I bought a Zenith Elite 680 as my first luxury watch. For around $1,500 on a classy dial, 36mm, see-through case back of the in-house movement is stunning.
I don't know if you would class this as luxury, but my first luxury was a Certina DS1 chronometer. I was looking for a Tissot and saw the Certina in a sale.
Bought a PRX for my cousin who’s getting married a few months back and I still cant believe how good it looks , and feel, on the wrist. Could’ve been 2x the price and I reckon it would still be as popular. When they finally offer the 35mm with an auto movement, I’m affraid I’m gonna have to pull the trigger and get one for myself.
My first luxury watch purchase was a Nomos Ahoi Date. I was looking for a watch that could do it all. Sporty but still elegant enough to wear it with a suit. At the time I bought it, it was a £2,500 watch. Nomos is still a good place to look for your first luxury watch. Starting with a Nomos Campus for £1,000 with an in-house hand wound caliber “Alpha”.
What a great collection to consider. I'm still living in my busget watch world, but as I venture deeper into this world I'm beginning to stick pins in some discoveries to consider for my first luxury watch purchase. Thanks for compiling and presenting this.
My first was a 1979 quartz omega de ville (GP) But if we are talking something newer... then it was a 2501.81 omega seamaster 120m (the last gen 120 before the aqua terra came out)
I recently got the Longines Big Eye Avigation petroblue. Amazing looking watch and great value. I honesty think Longines is a great brand worthy of more recognition.
My first luxury watch was a gift from my parent, the TAG Heuer Link Dual Time. To date I still believe this is the best alternative to a Rolex Explorer II. Too bad the Link line has largely been ignored by both TAG and buyers. The first one I bought myself was the Black Bay GMT last spring. Probably the best entry-level luxury GMT you can get until Longines pushes out their Spirit Zulu Time. I will never sell either of the two.
My first luxury watch was a Montblanc Star Legacy with a moon phase. I was into pens before I knew watches so they were my gateway drug. I still really enjoy wearing it.
Some great choices there guys. some of these if not all could be on the list of someone who already has the first luxury watch. As a starter though I think the PRX PM80 is the stand out bargain. you could even include the chronograph version that uses the well proven Valjoux 7753 movement but it costs a grand more but still a fair way inside the 2K price. I have to agree with the inclusion of the 'Murph' as well. In 38mm guise it's going to fit more wrists than the bigger original but for those with thicker wrists that should be included as well. A classic watch design made to look old (as per the film) with a modern movement and manufacturing. Other suggestions that fit the bill would include more from Longines with the Sector dial and classic Tuxedo designs. They even have some moon phase models available at 'good' prices compared to some other brands. It's also good to see Oris getting a mention here, the brand has modern and classic divers, pointer date options and other classic styles that have the evergreen well proven Sellita based engines. In house designed cal 400 options for some Oris models could be considered as well although a fair bit more expensive are still pretty good considering the specs and warranty.
Being somewhat of a Seiko "fanboi", my first "luxury" watch was a Seiko SSH003J Astron GPS Solar Dual Time. I had a few Presages etc. in the collection already, but I was just fascinated by the technology that went into that updated Astron. If I was limited to only one watch forever (as if that will happen) I would be content with the SSH003J.
Got my first almost exactly one year ago, an Oris Aqis cal 400 on the beautiful bracelet, I’ve worn it almost everyday since I got it and it runs at -3s to -5s a day. Absolutely love it! The one thing is that too by a strap for it with the quick release and buckle is and $600 Canadian !!!! That is unbelievable pricing!!!…
Mine is the Grand Seiko SBGX265, it's the 37mm JDM version of the one in the video with the blue-purpleish dial, astonishing watch. Goes with everything, insanely accurate and the build quaility is simply out-of-this-world for the money. The quartz in this is a work of art in itself. Makes me question the need for any other watch with how versatile it is, really. I'm also pretty positive it has the highest level of finishing among the ones shown in the video.
I got carried away and bought an Omega and a Tudor as my first luxury watches. I definitely think there are some excellent selections being nominated here.
I have a seiko 6R35-01B0 (Alpinist?) which I am really more than just happy with. It looks great and feels perfect on the wrist. It’s become a bit of an everyday watch and I love the green dial face. There are some great entry level watches out there that are more luxurious than you might expect.
My first luxury watch was my father's 1982 Omega De Ville ST 162.0060. I had it sent to Omega for servicing, and it will take something like 20+ weeks to repair. It's nice to see that it's a good starting point for luxury watches. I eventually want an Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch, but the De Ville will hold that special title.
I have the previous 41mm Carrera Calibre 5 day date in bleu with steel bracelet. It was indeed my first. Bought it when my son was born. It's an amazing watch. Super accurate and looks good in a suit or bathing trunks.
The problem here is that when you buy your first luxury watch ( and by the way, my first one was a quartz Tag Heuer, which I'm about to past on to my older son, more than 30 years after), you are planing on daily usage, so is got to be practical too, making the presence of a date function a must, because most first time buyers will be college students or young professionals in their first job. Sport watches without a date window are for show and for those who check time in their cell phones. Fine review as always.
my first was an omega seamaster 22545000 i bought in 2006 for around $1,800 and that has been my daily driver ever since. have bought a few other less fancy watches for various adventures i didnt want to take the omega on, but it is what i wear 99% of the time i leave my house. ive had it serviced once about 4 years ago and it has been a champion otherwise. just a really great watch. nothing too fancy or flashy, very comfortable on my wrist, just great all around. finally looking to upgrade a bit to maybe a blue side of the moon or something similar, maybe just a regular speedmaster? if i can get the rolex i want maybe go that route simply because more people recognize rolex as a "fancy watch" and im a little bit vain.... still trying to figure that out, but i will always keep this watch regardless and hopefully pass it on to to a family member when i can no longer wear it. on a side note, that christopher ward c65 looks amazing. may have to pick one of those up now... blue/bronze is my favorite color combo, just looks so good together.
A perfect video for someone like me, done with upto 1k dollars, have an Orient Kamasu II limited edition and Zeppelin Hindenburg LZ 129, now wish to have something upto 2k dollars. Thanks!
Nice dreams . I'm really also liking the offerings of Guinand , Sinn and Muhle Glashutte for this idea but I've the sense they're soo many relative great choices .
Seiko SPB213J1 is my first automatic watch and at $1200, is pretty affordable. Some will argue that it's too much for a Seiko, but it does have the better movement, and is somewhat limited in production numbers. Not a typical diver with the silver/white face and inky blue bezel, but I like that it's not black on black like most divers.
My first luxury watch watch was a Gold Tissot SEASTAR i purchased in 1974 it still is a beutiful looking watch, and still in Mint condition, it looks great with my other various watch collection... I must say that Oris PROPILOT is a stunning looking watch that dial is amazing in looks 👍
Great list guys and a great video as always! Have to agree with all of your choices, my first luxury watch was a Tag Huer Aquaracer and I'm now on the hunt for a speedmaster, but everything I've found I like they've put the price up!
Interesting what you said about your first watch,I bought a pre-owned aquaracer chronograph calibre 16 and don't think I will ever sell it even though I now have a small collection.
Some of my picks: Sinn 556i (I have an carnelian red myself and it is fantastic!), Nomos Tetra Plum, Longines Heritage Classic, Omega Deville Prestige, Hamilton American Classic Jazzmaster (H42545551), Junghans Meister Worldtimer, Tissot PRX powermatic 80.... Final tip. Whenever possible: buy at AD. Always look for discounts.
Trying to define 'luxury watch' is an interesting exercise. I was going to say that a Grand Seiko was my first luxury watch before a Christopher Ward popped up so now my answer is a CW Trident. It beat out an Oris Aquis, likely due to a mix of using a standard bracelet/lug system and the lumed bezel, and I picked up a gently used one from someone who was selling it to buy a 43 mm version.
Not quite luxury level, but there have been German makers such as Stowa, Dekla, Laco offering made to order watches. Stowa is complete it direct buy. You choose between manual wind or auto, logo or or not, Arabic or Roman, dial material and so on. They’ve offered that for quite sometime now. I’m not convinced a Tudor or Rolex is in a great position to allow their customers to micromanage their choices.
After two years on my first job I made me my first luxury watch as a present: JLC Reverso DuoFace. This was in 2000 and I still own it, propably never sell it.
Mine was a Seamaster bought in March 2014. Price compared to wages has changed considerably since then! 1 months pay got me that watch, not even close now.
Last month I came to my senses when I woke up and realized that I absolutely hated my Apple Watch. Many videos later.....I'm hooked. However, being retired limits my $$$ to under $1000. This list has a bunch of watches way over that limit, and one that I am currently eyeballing for my first serious watch--that Tissot.
That's a good choice. I bought a Certina I really love as my first real Swiss watch. When I win the lottery I'll get a Cartier Tank -- something small and gold.
My first was the Breitling Colt 44, absolutely loved it and still wearing it now with a green rubber strap. Been selling other watches that came after it... but this is a keeper.
Mi first introduction to Swiss watches were Hamilton and Tissot, then I decided to have a high end luxury-tool watch, went for the Omega SMP 300 in 2019. Best watch ever!

The 2254 is perfection
A perfect video for someone like me, done with upto 1k dollars, have an Orient Kamasu II limited edition and Zeppelin Hindenburg LZ 129, now wish to have something upto 2k dollars. Thanks!
Tissot website whenever you showed Tudor 😂 2:46
Nice dreams . I'm really also liking the offerings of Guinand , Sinn and Muhle Glashutte for this idea but I've the sense they're soo many relative great choices .
Oris AQUIS Date..what a watch..😍😍
Seiko SPB213J1 is my first automatic watch and at $1200, is pretty affordable. Some will argue that it's too much for a Seiko, but it does have the better movement, and is somewhat limited in production numbers. Not a typical diver with the silver/white face and inky blue bezel, but I like that it's not black on black like most divers.
My first luxury watch was a Grand Seiko blue dial spring drive. I still wear it more than all others that I have added over the years
Mine was a omega seamaster diver 300M. Highly recommend it 😊
I bought my first in 2001. The Omega Seamaster 2541.80 Quartz Goldeneye and I still own it 😁
That longines reminds me of a NOMOS
That Oris Propilot is absolutely beautiful. Think I'd opt for the multicoloured Aquis myself.
My first luxury watch was a black Chanel J12 Chrono. I love it!
My first watch ever was the Longines Record. I love it so much. Minimalistic and classy while not being super expensive
Solid picks, chaps! Although we don’t recommend jousting with your C65 Aquitaine.
My First Luxury watch was a Ball Engineer with Rainbow tubes. Never regretted it.
Plenty of underappreciated vintage options
So happy to see Montblanc mentioned.
Love the Aquitaine. My current grail is the GMT
Mine is the Longines Spirit Zulu Time - anthracite/green gilt
I just bought the same watch two days but in blue. I’m very excited to put it on.
Nomos Orion was the first piece to send me down the dark horological path.
My 1st and 2nd luxury watches are included here. Love tag and oris
