I used to collect Rolex's [sold them all before the boom LOL] - I now collect vintage Seiko 5's. I get no less joy out of a great condition rare £100 Seiko 5 than I ever did from a Rolex.
If you are a watch enthusiast the price is not part of the attraction.

The answer to this for me is to go on eBay and find a vintage Seiko 6139 or a vintage King Seiko. Prices have gone up lately but I don't think that there is anything that can beat the value proposition of the 6139 in particular.

If you need a watch that looks good, tells the time and still leaves enough in the piggy bank to pay the gas bill then the Timex is a fine choice.
The only problem is that it's quartz driven, If you are contemplating starting a watch collection then it would be wise to lean toward mechanical - or at least 'kinetic' or 'solar'.
My father started collecting watches. They were all quartz. We had this ritual where he would ask me to fit a new battery to the watch he was wearing. As I was pinging the case back off he would say "by the way, there may be a few more that need replacing". By "a few more" he meant at least ten.
I had a lot of fun building a small collection of affordable Japanese, Indian and Russian mechanical watches. No battery changing. If I get bored with one then I Ebay it or give it away.

I love the Furlan Marri, but hate their business model... I mean it is great to build up hype and drive up secondary market prices (currently between 3 to 4 times retail I think). But clearly they do not care about frustrating customers. I also wonder when they are going to run out of sensible dial colours for their "stories". Maybe then they will have to go back to the reverse panda and hide behind a slightly different shade of black^^

I bet that Citizen will NEVER offer one of their 8-megahertz quartz movement watches, even a lower-grade one with a reject crystal not good enough for an 0100 and maybe +-5 seconds a year, outside of Japan. I’ve worn a radio-sync Citizen for nearly a decade and I resent their apparent unwillingness to sell their most beautiful and highest-tech watches outside Japan.

The tissot prx powermatic is easily one of the best sub 1000 dollar automatic watches you could buy. I think if you wanted a one watch collection for under 1k there you go. Versatile, water resistance for what 99% of people need it to do, good level of finishing/detailing, and comfortable. It’s amazing how much it hands with watches above it’s price point but does have a few short comings of course compared to watches 5x it’s price. For instance the dial does just not look as high def at instant glance like my omega or Rolex.

Actually, Powermatic 80 in that awesome Tissot PRX is upgraded and modified ETA 2824-2. It is not based on Swatch System 51. Tissot actually got System 51 in their offering in their Classic, V8 and Everytime collections, and it is called Tissot Swissmatic. Apples and oranges, really, because Powermatic 80 is based on a trusted and tried architecture, it is fully serviceable and is reserved for Swatch Group's mid-to-higher-end offerings. On the other hand, Swissmatic or System 51 is an entry-level movement, it is not serviceable (if it breaks, a movement swap is required) and it is aimed toward young watch lovers as their first mechanical watch. Other than that, great video and channel!

Sorry Seiko. Citizen Promaster is the REAL tuna. Comes in those little cans. No bones!
Great episode as always. Laughs and a few new wrinkles in the brain. Self-healing titanium! Yacht Master 2022?
    Is Sonic available on Netflix?!?!?

Hamilton WR should be higher for a field watch. Get a citizen tough Ray Mears instead.

I’ve never spent over US$300 for a watch. I was given a roughly 1964 Omega Seamaster that had probably never been serviced (about 25 years) that was later stolen. It kept poor time and a watchmaker who cleaned it said that the bearings were worn and it needed more service than I really wanted to pay for then. It’s all been quartz otherwise, usually with radio sync, with a Citizen for nearly the past ten years.

Funny video guys. Liking this format. With Tom’s mighty wrists and budget in mind: Smiths Everest (can’t have one straight away), Seiko ‘ Dress-K-X’. Laco Augsburg. Studio Underd0g chrono. Baltic MR-01/Bi-Compax. Casio GWM5610 square. Timex Marlin (another excuse to use that voucher code)

Seiko and Casio both have solar quartz. If I wanted a decent Japanese quartz watch, I think I'd to Casio Oceanus...I think they're really attractive!

I'd have recommended one of the newish 5kx's, tho may be a bit big.

Elvis is generally associated with the triangular 'Ventura' Hamilton watch. There are a few micro brands that assemble watches in the US - for example, Vaer have a good value range of quartz, manuals and automatic field watches and dive watches. Not US made, but 'US Assembled'
