    This is one of the reasons why I love Trevor, he bring a unique perspective to certain issues that feels so personal because he wasn't raised here in the US. He seems to understand and appreciate things more than other interviewers would and engages more insightfully.

    My hometown located in a rural area of the central China don't have clean water many years. Until recently the water quality was improved. I think those works they have done is great and especially significant for the people whose life can be changed. The spirit should be honored.

    • @MelissaBrownapt215
      @MelissaBrownapt215 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Runsheng He - It is amazing how many rural areas don't have fresh, clean water with all the mountains in China. Forest rivulets, with so much sand, dirt and plant roots, generally purifies water before it reaches the valley floor, but if the trees are cut down, it's over. Did industry ruin the water in your town?

    • @hersv
      @hersv 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      My hometown don't have any industry at all. The water is kind of clean, the problem is that it can't be get easily.
      The two contamination sources of the water comes form the fertilizer and insecticides which was heavily used in the land to harvest more food. The land for farming is so precious so that trees are chopped down and the mountains change to farm land.
      The good news is that, maybe 10 years ago, farm land on the mountains are not encouraged to use. With the trending of many family are moving to the suburbans to live, the quality of the water is as good as old days. And the mountains are changing back to green again.

    I only have $300 to my name ($275 now) and I just made a $25 donation. If I can afford it, you can too. "Be the change you want to see in the world." I have a roof over my head, clothes on my back and food in my belly. Many others do not. This is a cause that truly seems to give a damn and that's why I decided to give.

    In India, there is a thing called "water-wife", where a man (when his wife is old or invalid) specifically marries a younger girl so that she bring them water from miles away and do the household chores for them. Water Crisis is real. Thanks Mathew and thanks Gary!

      Their are many places were young girls are forced into marriages specifically so they can help the husband often older men and their families in such chores like collecting water and firewood often with babes on their backs . This is unfortunately a way of life for millions of girls.

    • @MelissaBrownapt215
      @MelissaBrownapt215 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Augustine Raymann - How is being a woman in India and parts of Africa any different from being a slave? The more I hear about the plight of Indian women, the less I think of Indian men and I am struggling not to think that way. I know there are men who don't agree with these things. I keep hearing the worst things about India, women are traded, sold, given away, burned . . . geez
      I thought Islam was tougher on women, but that depends on what type of Muslim you are and what part of the world you live in as a Muslim. Wahabism (the Saudi brand) is the strictest brand, but for the affluent, it might be more comfortable.

    • @alpharho1354
      @alpharho1354 6 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      I am sorry, I did not mean to offend anyone, I mentioned "water-wife" for two reasons: (1) I saw some of them first hand, during my travels (2) it is very true, you may fact check it.
      I do agree with you, everywhere in the developing countries, the condition of women are basically the same (patriarchal societies with high degree of gender inequality), irrelevant of the religion or the culture.

    For anyone who wants to support them without spending a penny, I warmly recommend Tab For A Cause, which lets you raise money for charities by opening new tabs on your computer.
    It's a browser extension that replaces your "new tab" page with a page that has a beautiful background picture with a couple of ads along the sides (no pop-ups or ads that are inappropriate or make noise). You can allocate the ad revenue from the ads shown to you (which is represented by hearts) between the 8 charities they work with - Water.org is one of them.
    Last year, Tab For A Cause raised enough money to get 5688 people clean water (and that's just the portion of the money that went to Water.org). It's a fantastic way to help in a small but really meaningful way while just going about your daily life.

    If only the Stella Artois commercials with Matt Damon said all of the things he and Gary talked about with Trevor. Matt said the purchase of the chalice, which is the donation, will give precious time back to people. Instead of time, it actually provides opportunity - education, economic stability to equality, employment, etc. That would resonate even more. But excellent work on the part of these two and the people they work with.

    its satisfying as fuck to see someone take this kind of stance on helping poor people; letting them help THEMSELVES.

    Totally agree with this style of helping the needy. Charity giving is ok but it typically doesn't help solve the problems they are fighting. It's exactly the teach a man to fish proverb. Just takes planning and strong idealistic leadership

    It's not alwaysd about complex technology solutions, sometimes it's just simple financial services, utility infrastructure, etc. These basic facilities and infrastructure can go a long way. I'm a Matt Damon fan for like from today onwards.

    The basic building block that is needed is contraception. The problem isn't connecting to the water utility. In most slums there is no water utility to connect to.
