- Can you imagine having to wait up to six hours for water? That’s the amount of time women in the developing world spend collecting water each day. In an effort to bring more attention to the issue, Matt Damon and his foundation Water.org teamed with Stella Artois for “The Wait for Water,” which spotlights the reactions of unsuspecting people in restaurants when they’re told water won’t be available for up to six hours. Feeling inspired to take action? Learn more by visiting Water.org/StellaArtois.
The message people take from this shouldn't be "I don't deserve to have full access to water because they don't", it's "they deserve the access to water that I have." It's not about feeling guilty or self flagellation. It's about ensuring your own comfort is brought to others who don't have it. You can enjoy your water and your day to day needs while making sure as many people have that same opportunity as possible. Feeling guilty does nothing. Actually helping does.
I know the message but some people in this video were so rude and the waiter actually said calmly there was no water and some people were just rude.
People are rude
because it's never happened to them before
Ikr! I would have just ordered a different drink
That’s because businesses usually close if they have no water because of sanitation
I live in Puerto Rico and have worked in hotels, I love customer service. I still can't believe how rude people can be because the water would go out and we would provide people with gallons of water. I had one person tell me "and how am I going to shower with this?". I was shook.
After the hurricane Maria how I wished I had that gallon of water that someone else had taken for granted. We spent so much time without access to clean or any water at all. I am so much more grateful now for so many things in life. I can see how blessed we are every single minute of every single day.
Enid Rodriguez its because they *PAY* full amount. So its their right. Imagine you went to a restaurant and order a food but they serve only half food with full price.
tenzin tsenpey How is it the hotels fault if the water goes out? Even then, they still handed out gallons of water
Muna Shah because customer is always right. Period.
You really don't realize what you have until it's gone.
@@tenzintsenpey5274 No. No they're not.
Matt Damon is the best
No he is not. Jimmy Kimmel is the best
@@almostcomic 10yo
aww, man, I literally almost cried.
I wanted to hug the guy that actually was crying😢😢
Never take everyday things for granted.
Ever.
*_Keep up the good work Matt, and one day you might get a chance to be on Jimmy Kimmel's Show._* #NotALoser

the_dead_poet A chance???????????????? What do you mean by " a chance"? This is MATT THAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT not the Kardashians. 💪💪💪💪 he doesn't need a chance, instead, they need him.
@berya he's talking about a century long gag between kimmel and damon, google it,its really funny.
Im crying watching this omg. This is also happens in my country indonesia when in some part of my country. They have to walk almost 20km for water. Its nice to spread this mssg to the whole world. Hope everyone has a good day.
This is the first ad I have not skipped by choice. Powerful message.
Good video, some people just don't realize how lucky they are. Man, they were rude!

Well-said!
Thank you Matt Damon ❤
Thank you Matt & Ellen for raising awareness. I cannot blame for acting upset - most people simply do not realize the situation in much of the world. You hear about it, but it is hard to really understand it until you experience it. In my time in the Nave I saw, and learned, what real hardship and poverty look like. I thought I was raised poor... until I saw true poverty. I am now retired to the Philippines and do as much charity work as I can, on a limited budget. But even in the city there is no potable water piped in. You have to buy water from a water store. We live outside the city now and our well water is not potable. We have to get drinking water from a water store, a mile from the house, for 30 cents for a 5 gallon jug. There are too many people here that can not even afford that!
In Kenya we don't take water for granted.. Its one valuable thing for me.. I know what it feels to lack water.
Certainly water is a problem in some parts of the world. But another take away message from this video is that people especially some first world citizens are so caught up in their higher needs. They think that all the basic needs such food, shelter, warmth are all god given rights that should be at their hand in a snap! Observe their attitudes on how they treated the waiter knowing t/ fact that there was an issue with water. Like get a grip, they dang right deserved a check and balance to prove how fortunate they are. Good Day y’all.
Kishma Alvakar
They were very rude, indeed!
It didn't take away from the purpose of the ad for me, though. I had no idea about it taking up to 6 hours to get water.
I do agree with you.
I know, that blonde woman "my time is valuable", was arrogant. The reality is her time is the same as anybody else's and if she died tomorrow life and time will still go on without her. Water is scarce and ofte dirty for those who don't have at the turn of a tap.
+Vi W "Her time is the same as everyone else's"
That's not exactly true. Some people's time is just more valuable than other's.
The Prime Minister's time is far more valuable than my own. It could also be that she was just busy during that period.
Also, there are certain expectations that people are reasonably entitled to. If you live in a first world country, It is well within reason to expect water at a restaurant. It is also well within reason to expect water at any hotel (or at least any 2-star and above).
I think that was the whole point of the video..
James Otaji nope. You're not understanding the bigger picture. We live in a world where people become entitled because they can pay for it. That's very dangerous. Soon we'll be living in a world where people will think their life can be spared over someone elses simply because they can afford to pay for it. Oh wait, we already do.
As far as your example, no one's time is more important than anyone elses. It doesn't matter if it's a homeless or the president himself. At the end of the day they too can be replaced if necessary.
Stop being the problem.
Just donated $15 to the water.org website. Thank you for inspiring us Matt!!
This is touching and eye-opening. Many of us don’t see how entitled we are until we realize how lucky and how much better off we are. I’m glad there are people taking initiative to help others.
Thank you for bringing this unfortunate reality to people who never had to go without water or know what its like to even wait for some. Fact is, it can be fixed. I just watched a documentary about these poor sickly people having to drink the same water that animals have bathed in...I can't even fathom. I refuse to even drink tap water, I think its unhealthy so I consume spring water. It truly makes you rethink things.
Great campaign. Thank you Ellen for the video!
Thank you so much Ellen & matt .
Damn, I'm crying, and I'm a nurse who deals with difficult situations. Did anyone else get thirsty? I'm in Matt and Ellen, thanks for what u do! Mary Ellen (Boston, Ma).
I just bought the India chalice. Thank you for sharing.
Jessica Beckett And adding figurative culture references... numbers to initials.. in serious issues waters the conversation down so to speak.... And everyone... privileged celebrities to be used to raise money from people who are relatively broke in their own environment..that get to have a couple days at a restaurant a week as their splurge...And i would order a different drink...or go to the restroom with a cup to call them on their bs.....its the free drink you dont want to pay for with your 200% overpriced meal. or get water at the house that hopefully people don't kick you out of your life.
th-cam.com/video/Q2r_NXNm_Bk/w-d-xo.html
Jessica Beckett Thanks to you too😇
thank you
Only 3.13$ of that 13$ you spent on chalice goes to the donation.
And that might not even happen if they've already sold 300,000 chalice. :(
Here's message from water.org:
*$3.13 helps provide 5 years of clean water for 1 person in the developing world. Stella Artois will donate $3.13 to Water.org for every Limited-Edition Stella Artois Chalice sold in the U.S. between 1/1/18 and 12/31/18, up to 300,000 chalices.
You make me cry 😭😭😭😭 Jason Bourne
INCREDIBLY POWERFUL and educational through everyday events like the restaurant and the hotel EXCELLENT !
This made me cry early in d morning while watching here in Dubai. So touching.it’s an eye opener 4 everybody.
it touched me. good job matt damon. thanks for the reminder.
I think it's a remarkable way to raise awareness about how important water is and how difficult is to find water for millions all around the world.
Best Wake up commercial ever for water.I cried. I will pass this on.
All the while Cape Town in South Africa is sitting in the middle of a water crisis, with just about 3 months to go before they reach day zero - when water will be cut off for 75% of the city: more than 1 million households. Always appreciate the water you do have.
Hopefully Day Zero can keep being pushed back until the rains come.
Thankfully rain came last weekend. Unfortunately, it brought unexpected floods that killed 9 people.
Of Course i had to share this video i shared it to 5 people in my family. Thank u Ellen for sharing this video
As soon as I have a job and enough money to share I'll donate. And not only to water.org. There are so many good projects I would want to be part of. For cats, children education, depression and anxiety. Even though I don't have enough money to eat properly I decided to work for free at a suicide helpline and I really want to help the stray cats in my town with medical and health support, warm and cozy places to sleep during winter and enough to eat. You got a responsibility and as long as you can afford it - Share. It feels good. And it changes lives, both yours and others.
I’m water engineer student specialists,Watching this gives me In To Tears 😭,my homeland (Somalia) we don’t have access water everywhere we go,enough luck of infrastructural development of water supply,. alxamdulillah,we do have kind of chain supply of distribution ,as the Cities are growing gradually,60% of land is dry,but very much amount of boreholes and sources of water gain.
Obviously that woman who said her “time is precious” and she will only give the waiter “one more second” declined to have her emotions checked and approved for the testimonial part of the video. Entitlement is a bloody lucky gift that people abuse and take for granted.
Please don’t forget Flint, Michigan. They still need help.
Yes!! Thank you for this
Flint, Mi is in the most powerful country in the world.
The US government should work on that.
These guys are trying to help people in places where the government is essentially powerless to do so or where access to clean water is very limited because they don't have the type of purification technology that the US has.
This is so good! People don't realise having a roof over their head and food on the table alone puts them in the top 5% of the richest people in the world. It's the difference between what we want and what we need.
thank you matt + ellen for using your platforms for good, for the good of all humanity.
🙏🏻🌏 #oneworldonepeople
Wow, very touching, hope it keep forever to really care for humanity, thanks
I have been waiting for the movie about water from this dude. I am so emotional right now because I have seen the struggle to get water when I went to africa. It is heartbreaking to see people struggle.
never say i am tired say iam blessed always look at the bright side and the dark side of the subjesct. Such a great message well done
Appreciate your life, because your life is already so much easy, rather than people who in that video that have so much struggle, even to get a water, for living 😢😢
Great video. Short and to the point. It's a genuinely uncomfortable thought that people in the world struggle to get access to clean safe water.
This video shows the reality that people live day by day, water is a very important resource, which is not valued for the fact that it is always here, it is time to become aware and take advantage of it in a better way, taking short showers, washing the car with buckets and not with the hose in the same way with the garden and many more initiatives in favor of care, so this resource will not be so wasted
I live in India and I have struggled to get clean drinking water during my childhood.
That's sad I hope you get out of that situation
I faced a tiny bit of this hardship in Africa, its terrible. People, you DON'T have to give up water, just appreciate it.
All of us need to be much more aware about "water footprint" (the amount of water used to produce the goods/ services we use on a regular/ not-so-regular basis as an individual/ organisation). Perhaps, every product/ service bought/ sought could have its water footprint highlighted, so we can make a wise choice. As much as it is important to bring water to those who don't have access to it, it's equally important for those of us with this luxury to utilize this precious resource optimally.
VP
Incredible message!
I'm really touched
Thanks Matt Damon!
It’s really something to think about and appreciate. Btw: How cute was that guy crying? 🤧
I think that around the world, the social problem increases, this affects the majority of the population with needs, and others meanwhile we are not aware of reality. if we all have the need of necessity, we all have seriousness and we don't waste water. we need more awareness before reality.
Cape Town in South Africa is LITERALLY running out of water... I am dreading day ZERO!! This video makes a difference. APPRECIATE what you HAVE!! #DryCapeTownsurroundedbywater
It is a situation that affects and moves the hearts of thousands of people in the world but that we often do not value how important one of the most important resources we have and it is water stopping to think and put ourselves in the shoes of these people that would like to have this important element.
We take water for granted but there are people who need it more then us
Thanks Matt and remain blessed 💪💘
This should be #1 on trending
Omg it's really heart touching, I'm crying after see such beautiful video, thanks Ellen for such beautiful video, Yeah it's true in whole over the World there is water crisis. We should think about it not myself, be think for others specially under develop countries and many other places........ I'm crying seriously
We don't realize how dependent we are of water and how much it help us to survive, we need water all days for almost every single action we do, as the video shows people got so mad because of WAITING for water some people just DO NOT have water and they have to survive like that and we are complaining because of some hours, I think we have to change our mind in order to preserve the most precious resource we have.
I think it is a really important video, because it makes us aware in many aspects. For example, to take care of the environment and of course the water, obviously, not only think of us but also of the people who collect the water and do the proper process such as maintaining it. Another very important aspect is not to waste it and in some way or another to think about the future.
Moral of the story: The people learned they're huge assholes but forgot all about it a week after.
Matt Damon is one of the best actors in Hollywood
I like his personality 👏👏
The minute the guy started tearing up I started crying too
This is such an inspirational video
Definitely going to share it!
Thanks for the reminder . . . of what we have.
what a wonderful way to get the message out
Thank you Ellen u r such a generous heart doing good things to everyone.. & this one is most important thank u too Matt Damon, water is very much necessary to life. Love u Ellen😘
Ellen and Matt should sit down with the leaders of those countries in need and force them to be kind to one another....I lost faith in humanity a long time ago but Ellen and Matt give me hope.....
It's an important message, and I'm happy that Matt Damon and Ellen are spreading the message. It's great, and it's very touching, BUT the thing is people will stop thinking and caring about this within a matter of hours.. We all live in a reality where water is so accesible, and we can't really imagine how bad it truly is. Since we can't get that, this whole situation won't stick to us..
Also, many of us watching aren't rich. Some of us are young teens who don't even have a dime.. Some of us are college students who are broke as hell and flooded with debt. Some of us are adults who work for a living; some living pay check to pay check, and the rest struggling to make ends meet.
It's easy to feel bad for people. Doing something about it is the hard part.. How are we supposed to help those people if we have to constantly worry about our own bills? Some of us need our money because we're not wealthy enough to donate! For some of us, every cent matters..
Instead of going to the people who really don't have money to share, they need to go to all the rich people who have millions, billions, or trillions of dollars... Those people aren't sharing the wealth.
“Let everyone to have time for what’s important to them.”
Beautiful and eye opening, isn’t? And was with real but nice or polite people who got angry about waiting 6hours. Nice point! Buying now.
This video is going to save lives . Thank you
That's what we do in Ramadan every year we spend 30 days from the sunrise until the sunset without any food or drinks .
We do it and we know that we will eat at the night. But there is a lot of people who are waiting for something to eat or to drink and they don't know when they will get it.😣😔
Thanks Ellen that you think and you let the people think to. 🌹🌹.
LOVE this! thanks Ellen for sharing your platform for organizations such as water.org that makes a difference in the world. :)
A sad reality, not everyone has the privilege of having access to water easily, it is important to become aware of the care we should have with it. thanks for the video....
This is so real 😢 this really made me think how lucky i am & will definitely help ❤ Thanks Ellen & Matt 💙
I got mine - $30 AUD incl postage and handling - totally worth it!
Very touching and eye opening. Thank you ❤
Ellen your the best you spread happiness to the world and spread the message
Great work ellen and matt..
I am very lucky our place has very strong reservoir of fresh clean water. Thank you Lord🙏
This was an epic message.... ❤️Man you got me 👍💯
summer is coming im ready to fast for 30 days ,no water,no food for 13hours!!!much love and respect for my poor brothers & sisters all over the world !!.
yeah for lady who say that when she's in a hotel she expects to have water... well let me tell you lady that in my country the government wont give the local people water but would prefer give it to hotels so that the tourists can feel comfortable while we are suffering everyday to have atleast water to take a bath..... so think about it lady!!
That's a terrible thing for the government to do. However, she's not wrong. Anybody would reasonably expect a hotel to have water. That's not something to fault anybody for.
Thank you ellen for sharing the video
Shared! Thanks for sharing this, it got me crying. I am a teacher, I will show this to my students. 😢
Thank you for this message. As people living in a developed first world country we need reminders of how difficult basic necessities, such as water, is so difficult to come by. Sharing this message and doing what I can to donate to this cause.
Wow that's very important to know👍🏼👌🏻 , really really ....people compliant , we have to be more consent about this reality , love this video ....
thank you for this video!!
Thank you for reminding
I live in Alaska, our irrigation system was out for nearly a year, so 2 or 3 times a week we would have to take cans and jugs to town and fill them up, took a good hour or so, and that was a headache, but there are places in the 3rd and developing worlds where water means more than money, we in the first world are privileged as *hell,* we just don't like to think about things like this, well, I agree with Matt and Ellen... we should be thinking about them more.
This is very touching! I'm going to go cry in the shower now 😭🚿
Use your tears to shower
*worth sharing* wonderful message.
Love this. Second I saw the Super Bowl commercial I bought a chalice. Everyone deserves to at least have the basic needs in life like water and food. I can't imagine spending almost half my day getting water. Im blessed and grateful everyday.
I just shed lots of tears because of this video, now I feel so dehydrated 😭😭😭 .
Just donated at water.org! Thank you for sharing. (:
This has been going on for a long time already sometimes we just need to be reminded that these simple things that we have are something other people would die for just to have it
God bless you matt you are helping muslim and nonmuslim countries ... such a great actor and human as well ❤
If You Want To Make A Difference Support ' Hand Of Hope " they make it possible to get clean water for people who need it most!
Jason Bourne the waterboy--
Buena mensaje👍👍👍👌👌
I think that people should be aware of the matter. Water is a fundamental right for all people who live in the world. We are seeing that because of the non-conscience in saving water, many people do not have it, but if we become aware of saving, we could all have access to it.
I think that the most important resource for human survival is water. I feel that we must be aware of how lucky we are because we have this resource, since as you can see in the video, there are people in some parts of the world that don`t have water or take at least six hours to get it. For this reason, it is necessary to save water by brushing, also take a bath in less time or even reuse water from the washing machine to wash the bathroom or car, among others. In the video it is possible to observe the negative attitude of the citizens, who are used to having more than is necessary, it is a example of lack of empathy and little awareness of this situation. We can`t be selfish, but we must think of others and do things that benefit the environment.
We must never forget that well-being should not be invidual, since for what we are normal and everyday, for others it is a difficulty that threatens the quality of life of children, young people, adults and families ... let's take care of the water, take care of our future ...
It is an important message to make us wake up about a big problem around the world, generally, we don't care about our natural resources we think that always we will access to water but if we don't do anything about climate change mitigation, in the future may be all humanity will be in the same situation.
I love this!! It’s so important to realize this
OMG they Must Feel Like Such Selfish People Worring About a Shower or a Glass of Water When there's Others Who Sometimes Go Days Without Clean Drinking Water.
Made Me Cry like a Baby😢😭😭
it's a very sad issue, since we don't realize how valuable water is until we need it or until our loved ones need it, I think we should be aware of the importance of water in our lives and value it, as well as the people who need it they would value it
