I'm standing there with my parents, and my sister Francesca, in front of our old house. I don't remember too much about the old country, except that we were pretty hard up. Then one day my parents decided it was time to move away. Away from Sicily, across the ocean, to start a new life... in America. Never in my life had I'd seen anything as fantastic as Empire Bay, it was beautiful. On the other hand, I'd never seen anything filthier, more disgusting than our new dump of an apartment. The American Dream... it was more like a nightmare. My father got a job working at the port. It was back-breaking work, and what little money he made mostly went towards booze. My parents sent me to school. I had to learn English, and I sure as heck wasn't going to do that in a neighborhood full of Italians. That's where I met Joe. "C'mon, Vito, hurry it up, we ain't got all night." Over time, Joe and I got to be best friends. And since we were both poor and there wasn't much work around, we started a little business of our own. "Freeze, police! Stop!" "Vito, this way! Throw me the bag!" "Stop, or I'll shoot!" "I'm sorry, Vito." "Ok, spread your legs, and put your hands on the fence." Well, that one time it didn't work out so good. The year was 1943. America was at war, and the army was looking for guys who spoke the language to help with the invasion of Sicily. I was 18, and anything seemed better than jail. Who says you can't go home again?

My father was an old timer; one day, I decided to show him this video game because it played music back in the way early 40s to early 50s. I thought if I did this it would make him happy (which it did) He smiled while hearing the radio in those vehicles. My dad was born 05/14/1940. He passed away while I was next to him on 12/31/2016 while I was holding his right hand. 76 years old. “You know somethin, Carlo? For the last ten years, all I’d done was kill. I killed for my country.... I killed for my family.... I killed anybody that got in my way... But this one.......this one’s for me.”
This music perfect describes the typical cycle of human life: Part 0:00 - 0:45 is about childhoud and dreaming about life Part 0:46 - 1:42 is about first turbulences in life when we see that life isn't a fairy tale Part 1:43 - 2:23 is about the moment when you see that despite all cruelity in life, life has something that you want to live for Part 2:24 - 3:11 is about the hardest and most dramatic time in life Part 3:12 - 4:00 is about the final life conlusion , the satisfaction with life and the fact that you could live it
And to think this reflects Vito too in a way, i mean he was Naive to think a life of crime wouldn't hurt too much. Only later on he learns that crime give and take away much harder than an honest life could, which is quite the realism if you ask me.
Mafia II is the game that changed my life. I remember the cold winter days of 2010/11. I was in 5th grade and i was not allowed to play such violent games as battlefield, call of duty, fallout New Vegas, Fable II and Mafia II. Altought, one night i went to sleep and set the clock on 4 am. I went to the xbox 360 of my older brother and started Mafia II. It was the best experience i could ever have from a video game. The radio tunes, while driving through the snowy streets of empire bay, looking outside my window, seeing everything full of snow in the dark winter morning, with nothing to fear, no fears of tomorrow, with nothing to care. I remember breaking into the gasoline office (idk what it was) to steal cards to sell it to the gasoline stations. it was magic. After that, the hot and steamy roadways of Empire Bay in the summer of '51. Buddy Holly and Fats Domino and Muddy Waters and so many more guiding your way, while you drive through the streets in your Smith Thunderbolt. till this day, 15.03.2020, I still listen to the sounds of that music, while driving my own car to work. Buddy Holly is my favorite singer of all time. this game guided me through my childhood and my teens and probably will guide me through my adulthood. Whenever something went wrong in my life, just like this day. I remember the fun i had 9 years ago , playing this game innocently, in a cold December morning. Thank you Mafia II !
I had the same kind of experience with RDR1. Only difference with your story though was that I was allowed to play it, because my parents don't care too much about video games, and I play them seldom. However, it was the game, which made my last spring of middle school awesome. Beat it a day before we got our final reports, and I remember being enthusiastic on hearing a sequel (or actually a prequel) was under development. 4 years later I spent a lot of my time with that game, too, and eventually I finished my high school with it as well. 2015, 2019, such good times. Shows that video games can truly be the journeys to the memory lane.
I have played many video games since i was kid but mafia 2 that game was something special it didn't feel like a game more like a short movie but better i was amazed.Sometimes games get so repetitive like minecraft and cs 1.6 and css that you sometimes have nightmares and fever dreams about how boring they are if played without pause.I finished mafia 2 more than 10 times still not bored.Best game of my childhood.

this game was so far ahead of its time its unbelievable, the graphics... flawless the story... like no other... the gameplay... brilliant... the soundtrack... amazing.... this game is one of the greatest games of all time hands down
+Adams CZ the problem with the third is that they focused on the open world aspect. believe me mafia 2 is my favorite game of all time, yet the open world was boring, but the epic story makes up for it
+Wild Mitchell Mafia 1 gave me chills, Mafia 2 didn't to the same extent because the game was rushed, lots of missing content. What's true though is this main theme is absolutely stunning, just like the Mafia 1 theme!
gohan2091 I'm not sure if it was rushed, I mean the game's still fantastic, and it did take me on my second play through 21 hours according to Steam to complete it (hard). That is more than enough for me (considering the game was 75% off on Steam :P), and I still get the biggest effect after a video game ever when I see the ending. However, I do see where you're coming from, and I always did wish there were a few more chapters before the last one!
@Zain844 It wasn't about atmosphere, world building or characters anymore. Mafia 3 has a good story, but it doesn't have a good Mafia story. They just used the IP in hopes of getting better sales. It's a good game (well asides from the repetitive gameplay) but it's a terrible Mafia game
My main trouble with Mafia III strory is that it has no morale in the end, well, aside from crying Father maybe, or during the story. Take Mafia 1. Angelo wasn't a criminal prior to Mafia 1 events, and only got into murder and stuff after joining the mafia. Still at the end of the game, when he gets his logical ending, game does not make you pity or feel sorry for him. On contrary it elaborates that his end is the result of his actions and he deserved it. Same with Mafia 2. Prior to game events Vito only did small stuff, like robbing shops and only got to killing during the war. And once again, when the ending comes, game lets you know that it's Vito's and Joe's fault that they immagined Mafia life as rainbows and sunshine, and then it hit them. You aren't forced to feel sorry for them. But Mafia III forces all that revenge crap onto you, as If Lincoln Clay is a saint incarnate and all of his enemies only consist of most stereotypical bad guys of the era (KKK, Dixies and so on). Game forces me to feel sorry for the guy, who just prior to that killed lots of officers on duty to rob a bank, and then got double crossed by mafia. In other words I should feel sorry because the guy got back what was coming to him. Or should that one guard during intro mission that calls you "N*gger" be an excuse for all of Lincoln's actions since that moment?
There's a common thing in 3 games namely RDR, GTA 4 and Mafia 2 which I really love. These games shows us the reality that there will never be a happy ending for those who lead a life of crime... A sad thing is that there are no pieces of art in the gaming world like these games anymore...
Nothing but prpganda. Most criminals and evil men throughout history lived their lives just fine. The only reason you think this is because you never hear about those who don't get caught.
@@darkdiablo1601 RDR2 has the better open world but story RDR1> RDR2. RDR1 was about a man desperately hunting his old brothers in arms to save his family while RDR2 is classic betrayal. RDR1 just hits harder.

I always come back to this theme and remember all our good times together I will never forget you Abdullah, you’re always in my heart
Mafia 2 is not just a game, it is the presentation of important life lessons. A well-written plot with elements of realism: poor life, war, crime, prison, getting off your knees, friendship, humor, morality, family (partially), difficult choices and the loss of everything expensive as a price. All these listed elements and the characters themselves are so competently written and implemented that since childhood I have perceived it as a real life story, even if not my own. Every Mafia 2 player experiences someone else's life with an interesting story and realistic adventures.
Exactly my thoughts that you bring greatly, i can feel these characters and what they going through (even though i'm thankful how good i got when compared those guys and life lessons they going through) because life can be hard, i wanna symbathise with fellow brother or sister, those feelings. Cheers!
@@Joonas89ify On the one hand, the game, having elements for adults, is clearly not intended for children. On the other hand, it is very suitable for the education of inexperienced people.

***** What he's saying is, just because it's satire and not meant to be realistic does not mean it can have a lazy storyline or bad physics. My view is similar. Rockstar poured too much time into the satire (as well as the DLC's...)They used up so much time and so many resources on the satire that it seems they didn't put much effort into the story or the gameplay. They had an opportunity to fix it (well, at least the gameplay..) with the port to Next-gen devices, yet they wasted it by adding better graphics and more content. The graphics aren't much better than the current/previous-gen consoles, and the content didn't add much, either, just a first-person mode (Probably the only good thing about the next-gen GTA V, excluding the open-world screw-around-all-you-want style which has been present in every game thus far..)If the bugs were numerous in the current-gen version, they practically ARE the next-gen version.
Mafia 1 and Mafia 2 need to be re-done into ONE massive game with Time period starting in 1929 and the game ending somewhere in1960.....just before Lincoln's story.

This music perfect describes the typical cycle of human life:
Part 0:00 - 0:45 is about childhoud and dreaming about life
Part 0:46 - 1:42 is about first turbulences in life when we see that life isn't a fairy tale
Part 1:43 - 2:23 is about the moment when you see that despite all cruelity in life, life has something that you want to live for
Part 2:24 - 3:11 is about the hardest and most dramatic time in life
Part 3:12 - 4:00 is about the final life conlusion , the satisfaction with life and the fact that you could live it
And to think this reflects Vito too in a way, i mean he was Naive to think a life of crime wouldn't hurt too much.

Man.......🥺when I read comments like these I really get sad how the time flies 😞

Cristian Mauricio santana mafia 3 just didn’t have the same mafia vibe to it y know. But I still loves that Vito was in the game
Mafia 3 was good as a game but shit as a sequel.
Zain844 If it was its own thing and franchise, Mafia 3's story would be alright. But as a sequel to Mafia 1 and Mafia 2 it's really bad.
Mafia II is so much better than Mafia III
Tristan Clemons this soundtrack is better than mafia 3 main soundtrack

There's a common thing in 3 games namely RDR, GTA 4 and Mafia 2 which I really love. These games shows us the reality that there will never be a happy ending for those who lead a life of crime...
A sad thing is that there are no pieces of art in the gaming world like these games anymore...
RDR2 is even better than RDR imo
Nothing but prpganda. Most criminals and evil men throughout history lived their lives just fine. The only reason you think this is because you never hear about those who don't get caught.
@@darkdiablo1601 RDR2 has the better open world but story RDR1> RDR2. RDR1 was about a man desperately hunting his old brothers in arms to save his family while RDR2 is classic betrayal. RDR1 just hits harder.

The meaning of the game's story is short and clear: When in life you are tempted to cross the red line, demanding more than you need, you can easily lose everything. Cheers!

When you listen to this song, you can feel how this game was so legendary, I mean the story was perfect, the characters too, Vito is the most unique, handsome and incredible character I've played, he's like a part in my life, in my childhood. This game saved me from my hard time, I've played it so many time even if I knew the story by heart, I would never forget a game like that, never. A BIG THANKS to the creaters of Mafia 2, really, they don't wanted to just create a game, they wanted to give us a masterpiece, I swear. Please don't forget this game. My favorite game of all time... 🥺🖤
I definitely agree, this game is a masterpiece! One of my favorites of all time. I love everything about this game, from the graphics to the story. And the attention to detail is awesome, too. It improves almost every aspect from Mafia 1, creating a much more enjoyable experience. 2k really made a legendary game and I’m happy it got remastered!
Every time, no matter how many times I listen to this, it just sends chills. It actually feels like I'm there.

End of the world type of song. I'm 28, I remember playing this 10 years ago by now, how it changed my life. It mentored me, like a dad I never had. Been through hell and back since then, almost lost my life in a motorcycle accident last year. Lost everything I had worked for, but I found God, and this song makes me sit back, reflect, and be thankful for it all. We are dust, don't ever forget to love, for love is the answer to all things. We don't have much time, to dust we shall return, along with your Spirit to the ONE who made it.
Amen sir
Amen 💯🙌
2k chech.
"Mafia 2 is the best. Right Steve?"
"Sure Derek"

RIP Marty and Henry
Henry works for the goverment!
But Henry was a good person.. Cut into pieces:(
Marlon Frijters They say Henry was a fucking rat...
Marlon Frijters I too. I was devastated when I first reached that part of the game. Though they say "He was a rat!", he was still a good person, helped along the way. Even if he was a rat, I believe he saw more importance in the families and friends he made along the way. Just my opinion. If there is a Mafia III, not only do I hope Joe makes it out, but I hope Henry isn't forgotten.
Tigerfrost If Joe survived that would be the worst thing I could think of, completely ruining the dramatic ending of Mafia 2 for some feel good crap.
The game is more realistic than GTA 5......
GTA V is not suppose to be realistic you imbecile.
Its a *satire*, action phased, third person shooter game.
This game had it's fair share of bugs, but the cops were impressive.
***** What the fuck does that have to do with GTA V not being realistic?
1mmortalGaming I can agree with that, GTA V did not appeal to me as much GTA IV did but it was still a decent game but I felt it was not finished.
I dont know what happen to my heart when i hear this masterpeace ❤️❤️ its a feeling that i cant describe Mafia 2 not just a game
This is the only game that actually wanted to make me cry. The nostalgia is insane.
Mafia 1 and Mafia 2 need to be re-done into ONE massive game with Time period starting in 1929 and the game ending somewhere in1960.....just before Lincoln's story.
I don't think they would tie two stories and make that big of a game. I'd say remaster and remake the entire Mafia 1. The game was way ahead of its time.
