This is the dark, smelly, and beat-up elevator at the Dorado Pacifico Hotel in Ixtapa, Mexico. In my many years of documenting elevators, this is the absolute worst one I've managed to find.

I think it’s from 1982.
i was in a gen2 that suddenly did an emergency stop for no apparent reason it was going about 1.3 MPS at the time

It looks like this elevator fell to the bottom floor onetime, or it was destroyed by the people who work there, what do you think happend to it in the past?
someone should make a horror movie about this elevator! "Shaken to death" or "Death on Floor 6" or "Up we want, down we fall"
We have this exact same elevator in an apt. condo tower in my city. It is just like this, but with a 7-segment digital display and in... waaaay better conditions. It is a little bit creepy sometimes.

Why the button have up, down, two 6 button,m button,7 button, unknown button and up side down 15 button only.PLUS hard shaky like earth quake. When you press down button, comes up up and down button. It is worse???

Inside elevator door needs complete replacement. It's been 9.5 yrs. hopefully by now.

@dieselducy Andrew, it's a dilapidated piece of shit from 1982 (it's only 27 years old as of when this was taken). There isn't really anything good about this elevator; even the Lexan buttons are falling apart. This thing rides terribly too, and that is apparent in this video; it needs so much more than a routine cleaning. I like old Otis too (if you call 1982 "old"), but that doesn't make this any less of a neglected piece of shit.

1:43: the UP button is not connected to anything and the DOWN button controls both the UP and DOWN calls. How do you actually manage to miswire 2 buttons?!?

wow,you are really brave I am from Jakarta, Indonesia i just rode a really old and bad elevator just now but i don't have my phone so next time you'll see the video maybe the elevator was shaking like crazy and the doors are really bad they open really slow and made a sreacing sound but i was also shaking NO AC DIM LIGHT but worst of all IT WAS IN A SUPER MARKET AND ONLY 2 ELEVATOR the other one was dead it was broken the last time i use it it does'nt level good it was a quater below which make me hard to go out next time i will send the link here sorry but the one i use was modernize but still bad the broken one was not modernize........

@Jonathan: Where was it? I used to live in Jakarta for 13 years (now living in Bali) and I only rode a few death trap elevators during my entire living.

@@idl3k_elev I had no idea what you'd expect from a 6 yr old comment but I guess I just happen to read it. It was in PIK, there was a super market that was just opened years ago (literally when I posted the above comment 6 years ago) the supermarket I believed opened in a what used to be abandoned 2-3 story office space as I went through the back and walked past some abandoned office corner with tables and computers still intact but very dusty. I'm guessing the elevator I rode on wasn't at all fixed it was scary af, was planning to go to the toilet. Walked down the stairs after that .
Oh jadi di PIK toh. Saya belum pernah ke PIK sama sekali. Kalo soal lift death trap, saya pernah naikin liftnya Melawai Plaza (merek Hitachi). Itu saking tuanya buset dah berhentinya, tapi nggak separah lift yang ada di video ini tentunya. Sayang liftnya sudah diganti dengan lift baru, dan sebenarnya itu lift sudah dibiarkan mati sejak 2017 kalo nggak salah.

I saw on TripAdvisor that the scenic elevators have been modernized by OTIS, probably because of the result of one of the elevators fell down and injuring one guest.

@@zanedawson24 that was the passenger and not a service one. Through that passenger one was later modernized, wonder if this service one was also modernized or disabled.

Look mess of elevator is bit dirty! Should let them call elevator engineering man needs upgraded to testing elevator system to made works. That be elevator system safe and brand new elevator slide doors. What so bad test of rump elevator up and down that weird!!!!

Yes. From 1982, still wonder if this thing still exist or have been mod into something else newer. All of the passengers elevator were already modernized after an incident in 2014 which one of them crashed to the bottom and injured one guest (source: TripAdvisor).

My god, I think they should just dismantle that old pile-o-crap and build a new elevator! I'd hate to see what the cables and such are like! Next time I bet the control panel will be shorted out causing a nasty shock just by touching it!
I agree. That elevator is probably so old that it is time for it to retire.
