Top tip for the ground screw thingys: an open ended hook in a drill works wonders.

I've had one of these for a couple of years now. Problems are condensation dropping from the roof and eventually where the tarp rests against the tubing the tarp starts to fail. In the end I bought an additional tarp from a specialist tarp firm and put it over the top of the existing cover. Kept the rain out but didn't help very much with the condensation problems. Also I suggest getting a length of 2 x 3 and ripping it down the length and using it to strengthen the bottom of the door by sandwiching it between the wood and screwing it together. This stops the bottom of the door from shredding and makes the door easier to roll up.
Anti hot spot tape for poly tunnels might slow down the degradation along the tubing.
I've got one of these Matt, I had condensation on the inside of the roof all the time so I put a tarpaulin on the ground and it stopped the condensation straight away. Don't know if the membrane you used is breathable but if you have any condensation problems then you might want to try a tarpaulin as it stops the moisture rising from the ground. I bought the same one to use as a “temporary”workshop after watching Charlie DIY’s review last year and it’s still holding up very well. It survived the 80mph winds of storm Eunice with no problems - hope it works out for you too!

Good work Duncan. Mine too. It's scoffed at all these storms saying "is that the best you can do!" The key is to screw it down. A good friend in the next village bought one on my recommendation, didn't fix it down and it flew over his garage and wrote itself off in the field next door. 😬

Hi I can only confirm another of your received comments regarding condensation. I have a greenhouse of a similar construction and during the winter there is so much condensation that when entering a waterproof coat is required .I would not be tempted to leave any tools inside. I know you are obligated to your benefactor but it might be worth mentioning.. As you appear to be getting so many free gifts I am surprised that Jackery has not appeared as most TH-camrs seem to be given a free one. try and get the 1Kw one.
This is a great product. You may have seen Charlie DIY’te has been using one for a workshop for the last 12 months with great success.

I've put plenty of those up in the past in dinghy parks and boatyards when maintaining and refurbishing boats. The are absolutely fantastic and really robust. Being next to rivers, lakes and the sea, mine have stood-up to pretty decent storms and lasted for ages. A great temporary workspace I'm looking to see what comes next.

I love how well thought out the construction is. They've obviously given great thought on how to make it stable.
Have one for 4 years it’s good but use pipe insulation around frame contact points. Any folds in the fabric from new will eventually fail. I mounted it on sleepers to avoid staking into the drive so far it’s not moved but I have added scaffold planks across the rear and front with a further one with the landrover parked on it.
I did the same but I made a wood floor on concreate piers and I put the Garage on top and secured it to the floor know every thing is dead level and strong wind proof.
Great stuff, move that along the garden once the workshop is built for a massive assembly area!
Yes you can never have enough space
If you put a pvc pipe in the sleeve at the bottom of the door, it is much easier to roll up.

As an American, I am biased. You guys invented the Imperial measurement system and have since abandoned it! We hang on over here in honor of our former colony status. It was a nice temporary shed until you can build a proper one.

Great idea for the summer half year. You should have obtained two of them. At 3:14 you can see how many pipe clamps you can make and sell these with a profit.

I really enjoyed watching this - I've had one of these so I know what they are like to put up on your own. Being 6ft 5 was a big help. In the end I actually gave it to another you-tuber some years ago - sorry, you weren't around in those days! Great work by Machine Mart though. Have fun with it. Looking forward to seeing the floor go in

Matt, interesting to see how it performs as a temporary workshop. If it works out well, I will get one of those smaller ones (4.5m ones) for my back garden. Then, I can store timber and offcuts there, and free up space in my garage! Not bad for the £335/- price tag
You can never have enough storage
The wires are a weak point. Swap them for some chain. Had one blow away and the wires had snapped. Moved it back and replaced with chain, never moved again.

A friend of mine tried to assemble a timber and glass greenhouse using a deflated lilo to ensure squareness. It didn't go well until Pythagoras got involved.

Hi Duncan. I would like to buy one of these. The one you have is perfect length and height however its just too wide at near 10ft. The width I need would be around 8.5ft. Question : Do you think it would be possible to shorten the roof spars to bring the width in a bit. If so would you cut both sides or just on the one side... cheers GN
Takes me back to my camping days, erect 4 Berth tent in 30 mins, coordination & practice. Left frame half height, stretch canvas over, then raise legs in sequence & tie down. Easier than high stretching! When you build solid garage/workshop, you can set this for camping and feel safe in gale force winds !!

that's a great idea for the workshop. I'll consider it for my temporary workshop, while building the real workshop + the house . the only concern is the safety of the expensive tools that might be left inside (that part worries me the most)

Hey Ho Matt.... None of my apprentices looked like that or were able to think. Having said that, my wife is so keen to help but now we are near retiring she is not as keen as before. Need a new apprentice!! Some years ago, I was helping Princes Trust and organisations like that as well as those that help disadvantaged kids to get in to work. I had done a lot of apprentice training in The Aircraft Industry... At a seminar, I suggested to the organisers (mainly Women) that in my speciality, maintenance and decorating that more young women should be encouraged to join the industry..... a Hiss and then silence. It shows times have changed. Bob ( Weston super Mare)

Hi Matt. I bought a 10ft x 20ft version a few years ago. It had a faulty roof panel, a green PVC coating perished in the sunlight whereas the rest of the cover was OK. It took 18 months for me to realise it was going to be a problem and when I contacted Machine Mart they would only honour 12 months warranty. The best they could offer was a 15% discount on me buying a new full cover, and after their price increases was going to cost nearly as much as I paid for the whole garage. Last year the cover completely split and blew off. A warning to keep an eye on the condition of your garage cover and if you suspect it's faulty contact Machine Mart as soon as possible. Good Luck.
It would keep you out of the rain matt but what a hassle it will be to keep moving tools in and out the house across the lane to use in there, as there is no security at all you couldnt leave anything in there

Having used many a gazebo for outdoor work I'd be dubious about the longevity of that 'canvas/tarp' covering, but if you've plans to replace it in 12months then it will be fine. However, don't you have worries about security?

These ‘temporary’ solutions are *always* up for way longer than you expect so I’d recommend taking the time to make it nice.
Pallets for floors are what I used and they worked well.

One question I have is have you done anything about ventilation? It's the only thing putting me off buying one.

Re: “weedproof” membrane “I’ve got some more left over so if I want to use it somewhere else in the garden…” At this point I screamed at the screen “Nooooooooooooo! “ You will rue the day you use this stuff for its intended purpose. It is worse than useless. Weeds will grow through it as well as on top of it and have you tearing your hair out in frustration. I have no doubt many others will tell you the same.

I need an apprentice like yours....my current one is good at his main job (pest control), but not much use for holding, lifting and measuring things.......he also labours under the delusion that the workshop is his and I am his personal servant. At least he has security marked my tools though....if they are stolen and recovered and the police ask me to identify them, all I have to do is ask if they smell of cat wee. Hence his nickname....The Prince of Darkness!
