Great review! Easy to listen - not as boring as 99% of similar comparisons... sincere presentation, good sense of humor and detailed justification... Fun to watch!
The safety version or the SP01 has a markedly better trigger action. Decocker mechanism impedes the smooth action of the trigger. Try comparing the decocker against the safety version. You will immediately notice the difference. That's why I chose the SP01 safety version...tack driver in stock condition.
@@thegunpenguin my 92 saw me reading this reply from you and now it's like HEY MAN when we goin to the range too. totally agree .. it's a platform I trust always with my life. thank you again!
Two things that will make the CZ slide a little easier and smoother to rack: 1) Ditch the heavy duty stock recoil spring and replace it with a 13lb spring from Cajun Gun Works (the stock spring 18lb(?) is intended for +P NATO rounds, and overkill if you just plan to run standard 9mm ammo) 2) Lightly grease the slide rails with the moly grease that CGW offers. After doing those two simple and cheap things, mine slides like butter.
13 lb springs are fine for practice but if you ever do shoot =p you will be wasting your money if you don't put the 18lb spring back in. The 13 lb spring allows the gun to start cycling before all the gas from the gunpowder has done it's job pushing the bullet allowing gas to escape through the ejection cycle which will result in slower fps than the =p ammo should be.
Both are gorgeous and I'm a fan of both brands. Best looking handguns ever designed IMO. I could never pick just one and would be happy with either. I think the 92 is just a bit sexier or macho, but I also appreciate the weirdness of the CZ styling. Just bought a P-09 because CZ grew on me.
Great review. Love both of these guns. I have an SP-01 Tac and several Beretta 92 models. My favorite is my Elite LTT. The Beretta 92 is much easier to work on for me for sure. Really have a hard time picking between them!
That's awesome! I'm really glad you enjoyed the Beretta. I probably get annoying, going on and on about them all the time, but they are just so damn great. Both the SP-01 and the Beretta are such great guns, it's rather crazy how cheap both are. As always, I appreciate you watching, and thanks for taking the time to comment. PS If you end up getting one, let me know how you like your Beretta long-term!
While the Beretta is a fine pistol the CZ just fits me better the Beretta is just has to large a grip to be comfortable in my hand. The CZ on the other hand fits better than any other pistol I own and I like the trigger on the CZ better. but that is just personal opinion.
Was in a gun store the other day for like 3 hours just holding each one and trying the triggers. Back n forth, back n forth, back n forth. I felt like the beretta trigger was definitely better, and looks cooler and iconic. The cz just fit my hand way better though. The grip is too thick on the beretta for my hand it felt awkward to hold. I wound up picking the cz sp01. Came with fiber optic sights, pretty nice trigger and fit my hand like a glove. I feel like the fit in my hand is the most important thing to me usually. Im a trigger snob too but it’s not worth it when I could just swap the trigger if I need to
No one can blame you there! This review was genuinely hard to do, because both of these are astoundingly great. You can't lose with either. But yeah, I'm very biased too. Thanks for watching, and great to hear from you!
Haha! You sure do! Everybody does! I need to buy a second 92 to take some pressure off this one. Do you have a gun you like so much that you accidentally ignore most of your others? Maybe the SP-01 is like that for you.
thegunpenguin oh absolutely! My sp01 shadow is the only one that sees competition. It’s also the one I’ll carry on my hip when we go shooting, and it’s the one I like to show off to my buddies. Not a bad idea with having a second one to take the pressure off... lol
Haha! You've got great taste. A shadow 2, with the blue grips, is in my future. If I could go back in time, I would've done what you did, and buy the Shadow from the start. I knew I wanted that one, but I didn't listen to my gut, and reason overtook me. Not that you need the opinion of some random dumbdumb on TH-cam, but you made a stellar choice, in my mind.
Though the Beretta was the first pistol I ever purchased, way back in like 1992, my choice would be the CZ. Unfortunately, I can only get ten round magazines so capacity is not a factor in my decision.
@@thegunpenguin Alas, no it was either traded or sold off long ago. I know I'll get another one again eventually. Have owned so many different pistols throughout the years. Have settled down and I am finally ready to start a collection and would like to start off with movie guns. The newly released Walther PPK, of course a Beretta 92, a Browning Hi-Power and the S&W Model 29 to name a few. Would also like to get a Colt SAA, and a Ruger Super Redhawk.
@@jessebitgood3644 That'll be a great collection. The new PPK is very, very nice. I purchased on of the .22 Umarex PPK/S models, but it felt like a toy. My Ruger Redhawk is one of my most treasured possessions, but I don't have a Super yet. You're going to have an awesome collection! Seriously, that's an enviable list.
These two guns are the closed you could compare. You could compare an original 70s 92 with a 75 or these modern ones. You'll see comparisons between the 92FS/M9 and the 1911s and that makes sense from a military historical perspective but comparing the 92 types to the 75 types, they are the closest contemporaries. You could throw in a Sig 226 but that came later and is too function over form.
Never owned a Beretta 92 but I like the cz75b omega it fits my hand better and when you decock the cz it doesn't make any noise much like most decocker pistols I put five hundred rounds through my new cz and lubricate that slide latch and you can push it out with your thumb you just have to push hard that's all .
Just bought a 92A1 as my first gun! I’ve wanted a 92 for years, and I’m really stoked. I ordered an Alien Gear CloakTuck holster for it, and got my CCW permit as well.
We agree on the trigger comparison and the grips. Finally someone said what I was thinking on the beretta grips. They aren't that thick. Im going to do the trigger job on my CZ as well along with palm swell grips and then compare. They are both the best for me as far as metal frame DA/SA and I have medium sized hands as well.
Bought my first Beretta today. I was 75 percent on the fence about the Beretta, but with so many versions I was having a hard time pulling the trigger (no pun intended) on what 9mm Beretta I wanted to invest in. You’re in-site and way of breaking down the diff between the two the guns and the whole ins and outs of the A192 By no means was I considering the CZ not because it’s a non worthy pistol just not on my radar. CZ doesn’t fit my hand or nor do I like the machine especially after watching your video Either way appreciated your review so much after watching the break down. And as a result I benefited with a amazing purchase today thank you
@@thegunpenguin Analog synthesizers are greatly underappreciated. I know a guy with a Taurus clone of the Beretta but I'm sure it can't compare to the real thing.
I have a beretta 92fs, and I have Hogue finger grips and a large comp from Griffith Guns, and even with those additions to the beretta, I prefer the recoil and feel of the factory cz, because of those posiitives with the CZ, it makes repeat shots easier for me.
They are BOTH SUPER GREAT , I have FIVE different Beretta's that's how much I love them . M9A1 FSR-22LR , M9A4 RDO , 92XI SAO RDO , CHEATA 80X RDO , CHEATA 84-BB . RESENTLY THE CZ 75 SP-01 Shoots great it does fit the Beretta holster but I'll probably not carry it because of the weight, Beretta is the biggest I'd carry at 33+oz.. The 380 84-BB is a nice carry size or the G-19 w/EPS Holosun. Is my designated carry.
That was quite the love speech towards that beretta at the end of the video wasn't it??..... And I feel exactly the same way towards my m9a3 and 92x performance!👍👍
I really appreciate the kind words, and thank you for watching. It's always a pleasure to hear from someone who loves Berettas as much as I do. I wouldn't mind having a 96 myself!
I have large (XL to XXL gloves) hands. The Beretta grip is good for me but I know many that have shot mine that say it’s too fat. I also have the SP01 Tactical and Shadow 2. I feel like the CZ grip is slightly better for a broader range of people. I slightly prefer the CZ trigger. I do carry the SP01 (OWB) in the Winter. Very nice video.
Choosing a one gun over another is just like choosing one guitar over another! It is almost all based upon personal preference! And what sounds better and works better for you!
Why r u using the front serrations on the sp01? The rear serrations are much deeper and forward swept which makes it bite hard into your fingers. If you are trying to push a box backwards do you grab it close to the front and pull it back or do you pull it from the rear to be most efficient?
On your "magazines not droping free" issue - remove the grip panel and take a look - at the rear of the magwell you might find a sheet metal spring thats refered (in the czech manual) as magazine brake - its meant to keep magazines from droping all the way, so that the operater doesnt loose them - you can play with the sheet metal spring sortof or remove it completly if you want to see some smooth falling action
@@blaiwayw1 I've seen a few examples running without it - unless you wanna bathe them in dust or dirst, it should be ok. If you still worry, buy spare one and file/grind/trimm.. the older abit, so that it does allow mag to fall, yet it still stays in place and protects your spring.
Cool video! Two great guns to compare because they are both awesome and they are so similar. It would be like Glock 17 vs M&P 2.0 I am a die hard CZ fan but also love Berettas. Ya can't go wrong with either one.
This is a superb and excellent video, with accurate observations and sensible comments. I was a big enthusiast for the CZ's, but this guy made me look at the 92A1 with some lewd attraction, as to wanting to get one immediately !!!
Hige CZ fan . I own a variant of the CZ in a Jericho 941 . I'd love to see a Berreta with a new frame grip . The Berreta has amazing reliabilty and is one of the best looking semi autos around but the god damn thing feels like a brick in the hand and it makes it hard to shoot. I have large glove size hands and I still barely get my finger on the trigger in DA
That's completely fair -- if it doesn't feel good to you, it isn't a good option. Beretta does offer the slimmer Vertec frame that might be to your liking.
@@thegunpenguin i love it. I was won first of all by how simple it is to maintain and then I just love the feel and the accuracy. I use it on gophers and can't foresee ever getting rid of it.
Both are best range shooting 9mm's. For me, CZ-75 SP-01 is the fav. I simply get better groupings at 15 and 20y (but in truth the Beretta is much older), less jams, and both guns fit like a glove in-hand but for some reason CZ seems almost perfect for mine.
Really nice review, love the objective and subjective information. I have both these on my buy list; not sure which one I’ll get first. Either way I’m getting both.
which one would be better for small hands though? think i know you will say the CZ. I have been wanting a beretta for a long time but Im worried about the grips. thinking of going with vertex grip model because of that. I have held the beretta 92 fs and it was fine but have not fired one which could change everything
I think it'll really come down to personal preference. I know a very small, gracile female shooter who prefers Beretta 92s over all other pistols. I also know some large gentlemen who find Beretta grips to be excessively fat. You'll have to shoot the guns to really know definitely, but if the 92FS felt fine at the store, it'll probably feel fine at the range, but there's not way to know without firing it, as you say. Are you purchasing the gun for home defense, or range use? As you say, the Vertec is notably slimmer, and for the CZ, you can purchase slim grip panels. The good news is, whichever of the two guns you buy, you're getting an outstanding pistol, one of the best money can buy. I hope this helps!
@@thegunpenguin Thanks for taking the time to reply mate. this will be my first handgun so it'll essentially act as both till I get a compact pistol. so mostly range. I have been torching myself for months over what to get first lol. but like you reiterated. I just need to get my hands on these two and shoot. By the way, your username is great. you need to check out this shirt its perfect for you haha- www.armtheanimals.com/collections/mens-crew-tees/products/mens-penguin-crew lol your gonna love it. if you decide to buy. put it in your cart start the payment process but then back out of it and wait a day. I chose the A1. Daily iwb with it. 18 rounds is good insurance. My only issue is I do not know the best ammo to put in it for sd. I have been using revolvers & new to 9mm.
Metal frames are so delightfully reassuring. Though I don't necessarily prefer metal over polymer, there's nothing quite like the reassuring weight of a big-ass CZ, SIG, or Beretta! You've got great taste.
@@akaiphone That's so cool! I'm a big fan of the Desert Eagle myself! Though I'd love to have the .50AE version, I've got a lot of magnum revolver rounds lying around, and I think about picking up one in .357 or .44 every now and then. You're awesome!
Nice comparison. Thanks. But comparing the triggers, 1 stock and one with work, isn't exactly an apples to apples endeavor. There are springs and triggers and pins one can install in the SP-01 to bring it up to your Beretta's level, I'm sure. I just bought an SP-01 but now I want a 92A1 as well 🤣
I should've clarified -- the stock Beretta trigger is miles and miles beyond the SP-01's, and the CZ requires far, far more work and parts to get it anywhere close. The trigger work doesn't fundamentally change the feel of the Beretta trigger; it only lightens it. A 92A1 can feel as good as the Shadow II after a spring swap and an evening with a file and some sandpaper. The SP-01 is something totally different. Don't get me wrong, the CZ is an outstanding gun, and I like mine overall, but the trigger was clearly designed to be functional and safe rather than enjoyable. Under some circumstances, the CZ's stock trigger is probably more desirable, as it's much more forgiving under duress.
@@thegunpenguin thanks for clarifying. Great info. I appreciate it. Both the P-01 and SP-01 have ignited a very big interest in all metal hammer fired guns. A Beretta is now on my list to at least try.
Hey, if you're going to jump into hammer-fired guns, you picked two of the best to start, in my opinion, at least! Did you get the SP-01 Tactical, or the model with the safety?
good review of both! I have a CZ 75D for my CC gun and was looking at the SP01 for a full size, but then started considering a Beretta because, well, it's a Beretta. What would you pick between a 92A1 and 92X?
I wouldn't mind trying the CZ. I love the 92a1. I like the video it's the 3rd time I've watched it. I think I'm trying to talk myself into getting the one I don't have.
I came here for vinyl siding estimates. I have a two-story colonial with bay windows. Is this not the Weather Shield Penguin Vinyl channel? Do you sell guns too? this is confusing
The trigger on my SP-01 has zero creep, and zero mush. Maybe because mine is a manual safety and the decocker is known to make the triggers on guns “worse”. Idk maybe just differences between individual models.
In my experience, there does seem to be more variance from gun to gun, in both the tolerances and the trigger work. But, I'm glad that you got a great one!
If you installed a kit on your Beretta, have you tried the Cajun Gunworks kit for the decocker CZs? It should improve the trigger quite a bit, while all decockers can never quite get where the Shadow Models without the decocker and without the "B" reign.
I've fired several CZs after they returned from Cajun. They do a very, very good job! The stock Beretta trigger, D spring or no, is far better, for my own tastes, than the stock CZ trigger. Post Cajun, the CZs are a bit better, though at huge cost.
@@onpsxmember Cajunized guns tend to feel better to me, as there is variance from one CZ trigger to the next, even among the Shadows. The Cajun parts are more uniform, especially if you have Cajun do the install, which is the best way to go, in my opinion. A truly great Shadow is probably a hair better, while some are a hair worse. Though, really, this is all subjective, and the differences are minute. You end up with a great trigger either way.
@@thegunpenguin In my case I'd have to install it myself or by a local gunsmith cause I have to import the parts (+tax+customs+shipping). Thx for your quick reply.
@@onpsxmember That's understandable. As someone who works on lots of guns, I have to note, your results probably won't be as good, not because you have lesser skill, or your gunsmith does. Only because Cajun installs thousands of those kits a year, and they know the ins and outs in a way that no one else does. But you'll still get 75-80% of the way there.
I have both the Sig 2022 and the HK USP 9MM...both are very nice..the USPs trigger is actually a bit gritty on double action, but it is stock, and also brand new. The sigs trigger is certainly smoother in my opinion. But any trigger can be very smooth with a little work
All cz has to do is make the front serrations as aggressive as the rear ones. Also the cz mags are lightly rubbing on the inside of the rubber grips. As soon as i switched to g10 grips because rubber grips are for fudds, my mags fly out now
thegunpenguin I was surprised when I shot an sp01 for the first time a few weeks ago. I own a 92fs and have been shooting it alot. The sp01 sa trigger in comparison was super long and felt like a da trigger. This shocked me as I've read some say the cz trigger is better?
@@davediyou1309 You're absolutely right. The CZ triggers are, on the models under $1000 or so, pretty rough. All the ones I've tried have been creaky, with an excessively long reset. I hear from CZ owners multiple times a day, and I've arrived at the conclusion that something about the CZ brand breeds a rabidness on par with Glock. CZ fans will defend their favorite brand with an intensity and vigor that often surprises me. This passion leads them to often have their objectivity clouded by their love of these guns. They are undoubtedly excellent guns, but CZ is a budget brand, despite how much cachet they have in the US, and their triggers reflect this. Anyhow, thanks for taking the time to share!
I've got a Cougar, I still haven't picked up the Storm. But, I will say this, the Cougar has a similar weight, and the recoil is hilariously minimal. Seriously, it's almost funny. This sort of thing almost always sounds silly, but it feels like it's firing .32s or .380s or something. Otherwise, the 92A1 is the softest-shooting pistol I've owned. If I had to be pointlessly subjective and try to quantify it, I'd say the 8000 has 30% less recoil. The Storm, to me, feels about on par with the 92A1, which is impressive to me considering how much lighter it is. The rotating barrel is an unexploited gem of an operating principle that needs to be further developed and refined.
Sorry, I completely forgot to answer the other part of your question. As far as mechanical accuracy, I have no idea, about pistol that I own. Or, I should say that none of them are inaccurate enough that it starts to be apparent. As for how shootable the guns are, which is probably what you were asking anyway, the 8000s/Storms feels great and are easy to get great hits with. On both guns, the trigger is slightly crisper than that of a stock 92-series gun, with a shorter reset out of the box. You can get a 92 to the same place with a little bit of work, but the rotating-barrel guns need no help. The lack of muzzle flip makes for double tap pairs that are very close together, and start to feel almost mechanical. The triggers and recoil impulse will make you feel like you have super-human sight-alignment abilities!
I bought a Girsan Regard MC which is an amazingly well made Beretta 92a1 clone ... I mean the machine work and fit and finish is unbelievably good. I got it new for $350 and would be interested in your views of it, I think it was an awesome deal. Came with one 18 round mag but I picked up two 20 rounders (mec-gar) made for a Beretta 92 and they work flawlessly, as do regular Beretta magazines.
I haven't tested any of the Girsans myself, so I can't speak about them in any intelligent way. But, all of the recent Turkish guns I've fired have been excellent, especially the Canik Elites. If your Girsan is on par with those Caniks, it's a very fine gun for the money!
@@thegunpenguin yes it looked distinctly familiar. I felt perflexed, lookes at the mag and the mag well, and a voice said "lube her up", and it was much better. Then after a couple boxes of ammo it still only slides out like a child on an aluminum slide in the dry part of summer. Guess its just a little tight in there. 🤷♂️
2020 has been a helluva year! So I am getting myself presents for Christmas. I'm getting the SP-01 and looking for the 92FS Inox. Which is better in your opinion the Beretta 92A1 or the 92FS?
The 92A1 is absolutely more modern than the FS. Most folks buying the classic 92 are doing so for aesthetic reasons. The 92A1, 92X, LTT, and M9A3 offer far more features.
@@DarlingEbony Happy to help! They're all of equal overall quality, so it really comes down to what you plan to do with the gun. If you're into finely tuned custom pistols, the LTT is the way to go. The M9A3 is sort of the ultimate form of the military M9. The 92A1 is the most robust 92 ever built. The 92X is an ultra-modern defensive option. If you plan to add a compensator, the A3 has a threaded barrel right out of the box. The 92X is the right price. It's tough to recommend one, without context.
@@DarlingEbony The LTT will be the most fun at the range, but it's also the priciest. The 92A1 probably looks the most classic. The 92X is the best value.
I do not own either gun but I do have the Beretta M9A1in lay away. I have put the CZ 75 SP-01 in my hand though and it’s a really awesome pistol. The SP-01 TACTICAL is the series of SP-01 that is de-cocker only with no safety. So the tactical is the CZ to get as they have a SP-01 standard with safety. The slide serrations felt like sandpaper, for real. I feel that even if I had oil on my fingers I could rack that slide with those serrations. At first I felt that I wouldn’t be able to rack the slide well with the CZ because of just how short the slide is and the serrations but it’s not even noticeable. I felt I rack the CZ slide easier than most pistols so that’s a non issue. I absolutely love the ergonomics of the CZ even more than the Beretta, it just feels more natural in the hand but even with larger hands I felt the slide release clip seemed a bit of a far reach for my thumb size. The pistol is heavy, for real. It’s 3lbs fully loaded so if you have any kind of a wrist, arm, or shoulder issue it might aggravate your issue in the long run. The Beretta M9A1 is noticeably lighter by a lot. The Beretta feels like a toy in the hand compared to the CZ. I would say the CZ has a much stronger build quality for the frame of the pistol but that’s not saying the Beretta is bad or something just that it’s not as solid and as heavy as the more metal frame. The CZ is a beast of a pistol. For $689 after taxes that’s a great gun. It’s built as well as any $1000 pistol if not better. But having said all that I think I’m going to buy the Beretta M9A1 due to the fact that I’m buying it for only $500.00 to which is dirt cheap for a Beretta M9A1. Dunn’s Sporting Goods had a really low sale on it so I’m getting it but don’t think for a minute that means I won’t have me a CZ 75 -SP-01 TACTICAL some day too. The slide on the Beretta is as smooth as glass, it’s open top makes for very reliable action without any stove pipes. That’s when the cartridge gets stuck in the ejection port when it’s extracted from the pistol after firing a round. The ejection port seems a bit small on the CZ so idk if it would stove pipe more easily but it’s possible I guess. The open slide of the Beretta M9A1 is kind of awesome really. I hate the slide mounted safety on the Beretta though but it’s a great pistol otherwise. All in all I feel I’m going to regret not getting the CZ but if I bought the CZ I’d regret not getting the Beretta so....🤔
The Beretta frames actually are metal also -- aluminum, to be exact. The only 92-series model with a polymer frame is the 90-Two which is out of production. I've found the Beretta to be noticeably more durable than the CZ in the long run. The CZ is built more like the guns of yesteryear, the Hi Power and 1911. The Beretta isn't a modern design exactly, but it's long-term reliability is much more on par with more recent pistols, like the 226. Yes, the 75 was designed just before the Beretta, but it's built more like the pre-war designs.
thegunpenguin hey thanks for the quick reply neighbor. I really do like the look and feel of the CZ better but I will buy the Beretta instead. So your opinion is that the Beretta is better in the long run then? Did it take long for you to get use to the slide mounted safety? I shoot the Beretta 92 at the range and I love it but when I rack the slide sometimes the safety hurts my fingers. I hate that!! And about what you said about the frame of the M9A1, you said it IS METAL? I thought it was aluminum.
@@jayman1338 I'm happy to help, if I can. Aluminum is a metal, just like steel, albeit a lighter one. For me, the slide mounted safety was never a problem. You can likely just chalk that one up to genetics. When I rack the slide, my had sort of cups around the safety, though my lever has been converted to only act as a decocker on this particular gun. That said, I have other 92s, and it hasn't been a problem on those either. In the long run, the lever might drive you so crazy that you grow to hate that gun, or you'll learn to work around it. Only time will tell. My CZ products just haven't been very durable. I've broken several of their guns, while one of my Berettas has 13k rounds through it. I use my guns often, so that longevity matters to me more than it probably does to most people. If you're going to only shoot the gun a few times a year, you probably won't see much of a difference between them in that regard.
thegunpenguin longevity is very important to me. I have a Smith and Wesson SD9VE 9mm and I’ve been impressed with it actually. It has a heavy trigger due to the trigger being set up as the pistol’s safety for carry so it doesn’t have a safety otherwise so the pistol wasn’t set up to be a target pistol but more solid self defense pistol. But it’s very accurate for target shooting I just had to train hard to hit the bullseye. I have put at least 2500 rounds through it and I haven’t had any malfunctions. It is a super reliable pistol in my opinion and I surely would not want to upgrade to an unreliable pistol so thanks for your comments. If you don’t mind answering another question: What is the main difference between the Beretta 92A1 and the M9A1 ?
@@jayman1338 The M9A1 is the M9 with a few improvements: more aggressive checkering, a light rail, etc. The 92A1, though built around the 92 platform, is a completely different pistol. It's a 96 scaled down to 9mm. Both sights are removeable, it has the newer takedown system, there is a recoil buffer, and the slide (and a few other bits) are more robust. The 92A1 is notable for being able to handle a very steady diet of +p loads. It also is a bit bulkier as a result.
I have. The 92FS has fewer features than the 92A1. Personally, I very much prefer the 92A1. The recoil spring is different between the two, but I'm not sure why one would call either inferior. The 92A1 has a captured recoil spring, while the 92FS uses the more traditional uncaptured spring. I have some Berettas with one, some with the other. There's no practical difference.
@@thegunpenguin I've basically set my mind and heart on the 92A1, but wifey has said not yet :( Very sad, one is up on buy and sell in my area and it is a good deal.
I am lucky to own both weapons. Yes, the CZ is a pain in the ass to dissemble and rack, and it's heavy; but the weight is why its recoil and muzzle flip is less (to me, anyway). I also prefer the feel of the CZ grip and I shoot better with it. Despite its military origins, the CZ-75 is used in competitions all around the world. I also prefer the decocker to an external safety. Half-cocked, I know it's drop-safe, but ready to go if I need it. I can't really decide which trigger I prefer, you get used to both after a magazine. Both are my favorite handguns. Great review.
great video up until the point you said you've never accidentally safetied your 92. I had to learn to completely change the way I racked my gun after getting a 92. I accidentally actuated the safety multiple times while training.
So, you don't like the video because your hands are a different shape than mine? I have multiple 92s made across various decades, and I have never once activated the safety. Not one time, not ever. I'm sorry that you have.
I own mulitple CZs and multiple 92s. If I am forced to pick one, I would go with the 92. I have medium sized hands, but after replacing the grips with the Wilson thin grips and replacing the trigger with the short trigger, it is perfect for me. The 92 is just so much easier to take apart and replace parts.
I'm with you -- though I love both, and have a few of each, I prefer the Beretta. As you say, they are a breeze to work on, with the exception of the safety/decocker mechanism; that shit is complicated! Meanwhile, the CZ's internals are an insane clockwork contraption.
Can you do a video on how to do the D spring trigger upgrades you mention. and what you bought where you got it and all the goods that you do in your videos ?? Thx
Next time I have a Beretta that needs to be converted, I'll film it. It might be be a while, but certainly before the end of the year. Thanks for the suggestion -- several people have asked, and I know it's tough to find a clear guide detailing the process. And it's not particularly easy.
Was always utterly fascinated with the CZ-75: the unique design, the ComBloc origin story, the whole thing. Have been eyeing the SP-01 as a home defense weapon for quite a while. Then I took hold of the voluptuous curves of a Beretta 92 at my local gun store. The ass on that girl is Kardasian-esque. Fit my hand like a glove. Oh, yes. She will be mine.
I have 10 cz pistol and couple berettas. I like both sp01 is a beast and runs like a champ. Beretta 92 fs compact is also a tack driver. Beretta or Cz you can't go wrong in my worthless opinion. Buyer beware you buy one Cz you'll become addicted.
Not at all. I have several pistols and the take down on the Beretta is so simple and fast that I end up shooting it the most because it's the one I dread cleaning the least. (It also shoots like a dream every time)
Buy either one. Then save up and buy the other. No wrong answer. Great video!
Thanks! Like you said, you can't go wrong with either of these!
Great review! Easy to listen - not as boring as 99% of similar comparisons... sincere presentation, good sense of humor and detailed justification... Fun to watch!
Gonna buy the Beretta next week and after i saw your video i'm happy i went for it.
Glad to help!
The safety version or the SP01 has a markedly better trigger action. Decocker mechanism impedes the smooth action of the trigger. Try comparing the decocker against the safety version. You will immediately notice the difference. That's why I chose the SP01 safety version...tack driver in stock condition.
bro when you go on a beretta 92 rant I hear the choir shout hallelujah! spot on finest gun in the galaxy no doubt!
CZ SP01 RULES !!!!
And... The CZ is hand fit candy.
Like a custom glove.
Hellyeah!! Love the ending..the love and devotion for such a great and overlooked pistol..great video!
Thank you for the kind words, my friend!
Those are my two favorite 9mm handguns. I own the SP01 and love it. Best stock grips EVER! Now I'm looking to find a good Beretta now.
One minute into the vid and I subscribed!! Your editing sold me
Thank you so much!
My 92fs is on me all day for work .... love these machines. Man ... absolutely love watching your content and you do an exceptional job on all of them
Thank you so much! I shot my 92 this morning, and I was reminded that it's one of the best platforms on the market.
@@thegunpenguin my 92 saw me reading this reply from you and now it's like HEY MAN when we goin to the range too. totally agree .. it's a platform I trust always
with my life. thank you again!
Two things that will make the CZ slide a little easier and smoother to rack:
1) Ditch the heavy duty stock recoil spring and replace it with a 13lb spring from Cajun Gun Works (the stock spring 18lb(?) is intended for +P NATO rounds, and overkill if you just plan to run standard 9mm ammo)
2) Lightly grease the slide rails with the moly grease that CGW offers.
After doing those two simple and cheap things, mine slides like butter.
Great tips! Thanks for watching!
the Locking block system on the beretta will always have a smoother action than any browning style tilting block action.
@Michael S you sound like either a little kid or a 40yr old virgin who isnt responsible for any women
13 lb springs are fine for practice but if you ever do shoot =p you will be wasting your money if you don't put the 18lb spring back in. The 13 lb spring allows the gun to start cycling before all the gas from the gunpowder has done it's job pushing the bullet allowing gas to escape through the ejection cycle which will result in slower fps than the =p ammo should be.
charlie chill out
Both are gorgeous and I'm a fan of both brands. Best looking handguns ever designed IMO. I could never pick just one and would be happy with either. I think the 92 is just a bit sexier or macho, but I also appreciate the weirdness of the CZ styling. Just bought a P-09 because CZ grew on me.
You're absolutely right, you can't go wrong with either!
Just bought a CZ 75 SP-01 yesterday. I love the 92 as well but the 75 is just special.
Both are awesome guns!
I have 32 Cz's for a reason LOL. Love them
Just added a CZ 75 D PCR to my Wilson Combat 92 Centurion. My life is now complete.
Great review. Love both of these guns. I have an SP-01 Tac and several Beretta 92 models. My favorite is my Elite LTT. The Beretta 92 is much easier to work on for me for sure. Really have a hard time picking between them!
"I have too many guns, I know I do..." Now, now, gun penguin... you can NEVER have too many guns. 😁
own the cz, shot a 92 sf the other day. I must say the 92 was a tack driver as well. one more on my radar
@@SirRichardBear All great points. Though I prefer the Beretta, I happily shoot either gun. Both are exceptional firearms.
Thanks a lot, pal. Now I'm going to have to end up getting one of each.
Im a trigger snob too but it’s not worth it when I could just swap the trigger if I need to
+thegunpenguin - another well done video. Love the Beretta but have never shot the SP-01. Thanks for making the video.
And thank you for taking the time to watch it!
CZ all the way!! But my opinion is a little biased haha.
Good review!
No one can blame you there! This review was genuinely hard to do, because both of these are astoundingly great. You can't lose with either. But yeah, I'm very biased too. Thanks for watching, and great to hear from you!
thegunpenguin lol don’t get me wrong, I need a beretta in my life too ;)
Love them both. You can drop a quick round in the Beretta's chamber in an emergency. I believe that the Beretta can also be fired without a magazine??
Both true, but you'll fuck up the extractor dropping rounds in like that. They really don't like it.
Though the Beretta was the first pistol I ever purchased, way back in like 1992, my choice would be the CZ. Unfortunately, I can only get ten round magazines so capacity is not a factor in my decision.
With these two, you win no matter which you choose. Two of the greats! Do you still have your old Beretta?
Just got my first CZ....a CZ 75 SP01 to go with my Beretta M9...... luv em both....2 of the great pistols alltime.
You've got great taste! One can't go wrong with either of these marvelous pistols.
I'm about to get the sp-01. CAN'T WAIT. And on that note, have always wanted a Beretta 9mm. What a fucking great looking pistol. Dang. One day.
Awesome video, like how you showed the barrel lockup difference between the 2.
I like them both too, and I am also partial to the Beretta. I own 3 of them from LTT
I choose the CZ SP-01. If you get the model with safety instead, the trigger pull is cleaner. Very close groupings and feels great in my hand.
Bought my first Beretta today.
I was 75 percent on the fence about the Beretta, but with so many versions I was having a hard time pulling the trigger (no pun intended) on what 9mm Beretta I wanted to invest in. You’re in-site and way of breaking down the diff between the two the guns and the whole ins and outs of the A192
By no means was I considering the CZ not because it’s a non worthy pistol just not on my radar. CZ doesn’t fit my hand or nor do I like the machine especially after watching your video
Either way appreciated your review so much after watching the break down.
And as a result I benefited with a amazing purchase today thank you
Thanks for watching, and happy to help!
The memes are outta control..
I dig it. Sub.
I like the terrible music. It sounds really analog synth and reminds me of retro sci fi. Really cool sounding. What synth are you using?
Thank you for the kind words! I think that one is my Moog.
@@thegunpenguin Analog synthesizers are greatly underappreciated. I know a guy with a Taurus clone of the Beretta but I'm sure it can't compare to the real thing.
I have a beretta 92fs, and I have Hogue finger grips and a large comp from Griffith Guns, and even with those additions to the beretta, I prefer the recoil and feel of the factory cz, because of those posiitives with the CZ, it makes repeat shots easier for me.
most fun i've had yet watching a gun video ;)
Thanks!
You've got very good taste!
great review
Great video! I has a Beretta 96a1 but also have the 9mm barrel and mags. Fantastic firearm. Your right on all points. Keep up the great work.
Of course! There is no best gun. I hope that most folks understand that.
i love your videos penguin
Thank you so much! I'm honored!
You are absolutely correct on adjusting the mag release. If it wasn’t that the brake protects the mainspring, it would be simple to just take it out.
Thanks! And I totally agree -- whichever you choose, you win.
If you’re a die hard fan wouldn’t you prefer the Beretta? See what I did there? 😉
This is a superb and excellent video, with accurate observations and sensible comments.
I was a big enthusiast for the CZ's, but this guy made me look at the 92A1 with some lewd attraction, as to wanting to get one immediately !!!
Thank you for the kind words! Both of these guns are so good, you might end up with one of each.
Nice review, I have both of those guns and love them both. Can go wrong either of them.
Looking at both these guns and the sig226. I have only shot the CZ once. Which do you think would fit large hands better?? Thank you.
Anything?? Thx
I wanna change my 'G model" 92X Compact to an "F".... Do you have a video on it?
I went from GSG to Browning 1911 then added the 92A1 and next I think i want either a ruger mark iv or a CZ
You've got great taste! What do you think of the 92A1?
@@thegunpenguin i love it. I was won first of all by how simple it is to maintain and then I just love the feel and the accuracy. I use it on gophers and can't foresee ever getting rid of it.
Dash, you are missing out on the best pistol of all, a 1911 in 45 ACP. I have a Springfield Loaded MC Operator in 45 that is my favorite pistol ever.
That's understandable! Both are great guns; whichever one you prefer, you win.
Really nice review, love the objective and subjective information. I have both these on my buy list; not sure which one I’ll get first. Either way I’m getting both.
Thanks for the kind words, and both are exceptionally awesome!
which one would be better for small hands though? think i know you will say the CZ.
I have a shadow 2 but i want the tactical 😢 i am in canada.....
Your cool! Don’t stop being you! That’s why I liked and subscribed!
Thanks!
I chose the A1. Daily iwb with it. 18 rounds is good insurance. My only issue is I do not know the best ammo to put in it for sd. I have been using revolvers & new to 9mm.
Most people will recommend Speer gold dot, Hornady critical duty, or federal HST for self defense. Can't go wrong with any of those.
Thanks for the review, I got the CZ after watching your video.
Thank you for watching, and you made a great choice!
thegunpenguin I’m a Sig collector, everything I own is metal frame
Metal frames are so delightfully reassuring. Though I don't necessarily prefer metal over polymer, there's nothing quite like the reassuring weight of a big-ass CZ, SIG, or Beretta! You've got great taste.
thegunpenguin oh and don’t forget my Desert Eagle haha
@@akaiphone That's so cool! I'm a big fan of the Desert Eagle myself! Though I'd love to have the .50AE version, I've got a lot of magnum revolver rounds lying around, and I think about picking up one in .357 or .44 every now and then. You're awesome!
Does that beretta have a steel guide rod? Does it matter if its plastic?
Love my Berettas but just acquired an identical CZ and they are nice as well. Just wish spare mags weren’t so pricey.
Great review Thanks
Thanks for the kind words!
Great video, and worth the watch. Makes me want to go out and buy another 92A1.
Thanks! I appreciate you watching.
I have Beretta's, and CZ's of several flavors. Hard to pick a favorite.
Only problem is I do not shoot the Beretta 92 well while I do just about every other pistol.
I'd call that a problem as well!
@@thegunpenguin Ha, 2 threads...
good review of both!
I have them both.. very similar but different.. definitely great and accurate guns
I came here for vinyl siding estimates. I have a two-story colonial with bay windows. Is this not the Weather Shield Penguin Vinyl channel? Do you sell guns too? this is confusing
Can I not do two things?
The trigger on my SP-01 has zero creep, and zero mush. Maybe because mine is a manual safety and the decocker is known to make the triggers on guns “worse”. Idk maybe just differences between individual models.
In my experience, there does seem to be more variance from gun to gun, in both the tolerances and the trigger work. But, I'm glad that you got a great one!
yeah definitely, I just want one of each! thnx tgp
@@thegunpenguin
The question is how much difference there is between a cajunized SP-01 tactical (decocker) vs the regular Shadow.
@@thegunpenguin
In my case I'd have to install it myself or by a local gunsmith cause I have to import the parts (+tax+customs+shipping).
Love the video. I call blasphemy on everything you said about the precious CZ! But amazing video. Love your content
Thanks, my friend! The CZ is also excellent. You really can't go wrong with either of these!
I have both of these pistols, and I like them both equally! I would also recommend the Sig Sauer P226 and the H&K USP!
I have them also.
Those are all the pistols I am looking at as well. I have large hands. Wear XL gloves. Which would you say fits larger hands better?
I have both the Sig 2022 and the HK USP 9MM...both are very nice..the USPs trigger is actually a bit gritty on double action, but it is stock, and also brand new. The sigs trigger is certainly smoother in my opinion. But any trigger can be very smooth with a little work
Yes, you seemed weird, but the video was very good. I liked your comparative analysis. I also like the Beretta.
All cz has to do is make the front serrations as aggressive as the rear ones. Also the cz mags are lightly rubbing on the inside of the rubber grips. As soon as i switched to g10 grips because rubber grips are for fudds, my mags fly out now
And it'd be nice if the trigger didn't blow ass.
thegunpenguin I was surprised when I shot an sp01 for the first time a few weeks ago.
I choose both!
Excellent choice!
I laughed so hard at the end. Great job!
Haha! Thanks! Let it never be said that I take anything too seriously.
@@thegunpenguin I have a question. How does your Beretta Storm measure up to your 92-A1 in terms of accuracy and recoil?
Stopped by for the Beretta, subscribed for the excellent content, intelligent conversation, and the bdsm horse :-)
Thank you! I'm honored!
My ship uses the Beretta M9 and they are well worn to say the least. They run unless a part physically breaks on them, usually the locking block.
I had to own three World class pistols at a minimum so of course I have the CZ 75 SP01, Beretta M9 and the M9A3
I bought a Girsan Regard MC which is an amazingly well made Beretta 92a1 clone ...
Both have effective and unique design.
Buy one of each and enjoy.
My p01 had a slow falling mag until i clp'd the mag well and magazine. Domt know if that was wrong to do but it worked.
I'll give that a try. Was yours as lazy as mine?
@@thegunpenguin yes it looked distinctly familiar. I felt perflexed, lookes at the mag and the mag well, and a voice said "lube her up", and it was much better. Then after a couple boxes of ammo it still only slides out like a child on an aluminum slide in the dry part of summer. Guess its just a little tight in there. 🤷♂️
The barrel/lugs on the M9a1 ride on groves within the slide.
Every 92 does that. The locking block then has another set of lugs that ride within the interior frame rails.
Both are my favorite guns if i am at work o carry both at same time baretta open and cz concealed
@@thegunpenguin Thank you! One more question, of the ones that you listed, which one is your dream gun?
@@DarlingEbony Happy to help! They're all of equal overall quality, so it really comes down to what you plan to do with the gun. If you're into finely tuned custom pistols, the LTT is the way to go. The M9A3 is sort of the ultimate form of the military M9. The 92A1 is the most robust 92 ever built. The 92X is an ultra-modern defensive option. If you plan to add a compensator, the A3 has a threaded barrel right out of the box. The 92X is the right price. It's tough to recommend one, without context.
@@thegunpenguin Thank you again! I want a Beretta for nostalgia but also for home defense. Something to have fun with at the range. Accurate.
If you don’t mind answering another question:
What is the main difference between the Beretta 92A1 and the M9A1 ?
@@jayman1338 The M9A1 is the M9 with a few improvements: more aggressive checkering, a light rail, etc. The 92A1, though built around the 92 platform, is a completely different pistol. It's a 96 scaled down to 9mm. Both sights are removeable, it has the newer takedown system, there is a recoil buffer, and the slide (and a few other bits) are more robust. The 92A1 is notable for being able to handle a very steady diet of +p loads. It also is a bit bulkier as a result.
best gun review thanks
Thank you for the kind words!
thegunpenguin I watch many gun reviews and your review was straight to the point gud review and facts thx
@@chrisspowell8116 Thanks, and thank you for watching!
I am torn between te 92A1 and the FS. Have you used both? Recommendations? I have heard the recoil spring isn't as nice in the A1.
Thank you. I bought the M9
It's very easy, I was able to do mine on 10 minutes. I believe that the American made ones are easier to do.
A man needs both.
You've got great taste!
I would own both, but I can never find a CZ, or the stainless one I’m looking for.
CZ-USA.COM CZ 75B high polished stainless 806.00. It is not a SP-01 but I doubt any tactical pistol will be.
Try Arizona
MAN IS IT BAD THE WAY THE BERETTA GETS BROKEN DOWN IS A WINNER FOR ME JUST FROM THAT ITSELF ?!?!?!?
Not at all. I have several pistols and the take down on the Beretta is so simple and fast that I end up shooting it the most because it's the one I dread cleaning the least. (It also shoots like a dream every time)
