If you just prefer them that's cool. But I hope it's not the "drop safe" issue that's keeping you from a Shadow 2. Cause it's not an issue. Shadow 2s are drop safe. The main reason the SP01 has a firing pin block is cause that's a legal requirement in many of the NATO nations, and EU, where they're used for duty/military purposes.
I have both of these and love them. The SP-01 was my first CZ, I was hooked after that. I also picked up a Phantom right before they were discontinued; it's the most accurate stock pistol that I've ever fired.. CZ makes awesome guns.
I LOVE, my CZ Tactical, I was uneasy with no safety, I was skeptical about this "double action saftey" stuff...but, I'm a believer now. Its very hard for a child to pull that trigger on decock mode. This pistol is the first time I have Tritium sights..they're amazing.
I had both the shadow 2 and just bought the tactical...... both are beautiful guns...... also had the orange love all 3.... but sold the shadow 2 and the orange...... sorta of regret getting rid of the 2 but really happy with the tactical
Wife and I have both. We prefer the shadow 2 as we mainly use for competition. If carrying - yeah the sp01 all day every day. But if that was the need I’d recommend the p01.
This is the video i was looking for. I bought myself a used shadow 2 for my birthday but i just enjoy shooting my SP-01 more. Makes me want to trade my shadow 2 for a SP-01 tactical
I have the Shadow 2 Orange, same as in only manual safety, but you should be able to pull trigger, manually & slowly drop hammer, before hammer completely drops release the trigger, then will be on half-cock like if it had a decocker. Still have the DA/SA function without the decocker.
I was shooting the shadow 2 very often. also the racing green that just came out a while ago. never tryed the sp-01 tactical. but after all i`ve to say for ME.(only for me). the cz 75 sp-01 shadow is still the best ...cause its a allround gun and for me that gun feels better in my hands then the shadow 2 did. beside that. great video. thx
I have a Shadow 2, and while I've never handled an SP-01 Tactical, I do own the Competition model, which is more or less the same, only with a Shadow 2 pricepoint and coming factory with what Cajun Gunworks would do to a Tactical. I've got to say, I'm completely torn between the two. In many regards, I prefer the SP-01, but in the end love both equally. The people I let shoot both back to back have given me very polarizing, 50/50 splits on their preferences. It's bizarre how polarizing these two pistols are when I break them out, and how consistently evenly people prefer one over the other by wide margins.
Very nice review and comparison. I'm one of those crazy old guys who just likes the finer things in life and and I can say that I like both of them equally well.
The Shadow 2 is also a DA/SA gun just like the SP-01 Tactical. If I was going to carry my Shadow 2, I would carry it in DA with the hammer on the 1/4 cocked notch (keeps the hammer from resting on the firing pin). The only meaningful difference in safety features between these two is the firing pin block on the SP-01 (the Shadow 2 doesn’t have one). Prior to the late 70’s/early 80’s firing pin blocks weren’t in common use on any pistols. I definitely prefer a firing pin block for my carry pistols but don’t see it as a deal-breaker if an otherwise well made pistol doesn’t have one.
Could literally buy all the parts in the shadow and upgrade the SP01. Only thing you can’t change is obviously any external things like the serrations etc.
I'm just a ham and egger, and my SP-01 shoots better than I do. If that ever changes, I might get a new trigger and a red dot and go Glock crazy. This is the most ergonomic handgun I've ever fired, it feels like it was made for my hand.
If your worried about the safety of it, couldn't you carry the S2 in DA with the safety on? kinda like a revolver? I like the idea of carrying a comp gun. deadly accurate at most ranges. Hence why im lookin at CZs. Or am i missing a piece of the puzzle?
The SP-01 just fit my hand better. That hump on the back of the Shadow 2 is pronounced and hits me wrong. Got the manual-safety version, not the de-cocker. No light-pipe front sight, just some very poor "luminescent paint" dots that don't luminesce. Some paint fixed the dots. The plastic guide rod is a little of a bummer, but I do like the stock grips. My thumb lays on top of the left grip like a thumb rest. Too big to carry unless open, which I don't do except at the range/hunting/field. Maybe a PCR or Compact for winter carry down the road.
I guess most inexperienced shooters, are totally unfamiliar with revolvers, or how to de cock a revolver. There never was a de-cocker, on any revolver. You did it manually from SA back to DA. Then you would understand the same principle applies to de-cocking a DA SA semi-auto pistol without a de-cocker like the Shadow 2 pistol and be comfortable with it!
You should Grand Power pistols - they make some VERY high-end full-sized guns. The K100 X-Trim and the X-Calibur are smooooooth. I'm a CZ/GP fanboy. Kinda sad not that many people know about GP though.
This is an honest question. It literally seems that the only discernible MAJOR difference between the SP-01 and the Shadow II seems to be the price and the firing pin block....and other differences (such as polymer guide rod, trigger, etc.) which you talk about upgrading. If you spend that money for the upgrades discussed, you are spending the same amount you would have to have simply bought the Shadow II. I have watched the video a few times to try to see what I am missing. Please, why is the gun that you are going to practically spend the money to upgrade the one gun to be a copy of the other gun (except the one has a firing pin block) the choice?
Do you think a SP-01 would fit in a holster that’s designed for a shadow 2 running a TRL1 HL light, the holster locks onto the light, i’m looking to purchase a Dara holster but they only have it for the shadow 2 but I’m thinking it will work for a SP-01 considering there’s not too much of a difference, if you could check them out and get back to me regarding my question, that would be fantastic sir
@@TiberiousGib It was to know that safariland holster, even if it was for another pistol, could have enough space for the shadow 2. Thank you very much for answering.
These are variants of the same gun but for different purposes You’d only buy a Shadow 2 for competition or as a range toy The Sp-o1 tactical is a full sized duty gun that is a very popular competition gun as well in the Shadow 1 variant The DA/SA has the same safety mech in both guns - only difference is you manually decock the Shadow 2 The Shadow 2 has the thumb safety for 3 - gun use - otherwise it would always be decocked to start a competition stage I have a Shadow 2 - it’s so easy to shoot well - it’s almost boring ..
Great video except the fact that you keep comparing to something you would not want to carry, the shadow 2 was never designed for carry don't think it should be referenced to be a gun you would "not want to carry" because of the safety etc.Its a competition shooter not a carry gun. Peace
When you train with a 1911 a manual Saftey is not a hindrance at all just my personal preference,. . . I get so tired of peeps saying they can’t have a manual safety on a gun ever. . .
Thanks I truly understand that it’s okay to agree to disagree, but mostly I respect the reply, so many big name You Tubers you will never here from. Peace and keep up your hard working efforts, I appreciate it.
Greetings from Italy! Great review ! I have to buy my first pistol, I like both of them but I prefer Sp-01 for the price :) I have also had a look at Cz P-10 F wich is cheaper and very good, although is polymer and I prefer all metal.. Did you have the chance to test it and what do you think ? thanks
There is sp01 safety model out there too. Before the shadow line came out it is the preferred platform for competition shooters. Really most people don't use S2 factory grips because when your hands are wet the alu grips slippery, the stock S2 DA is more close to 10lb instead of 8 I think. With a trigger job S 2 can get the trigger down to 5.5/2ish DA/SA which sp01 can never do. Would you actually thinking about carry the sp01 which is about 44? oz loaded ? Instead of maybe a CZ P01?
ummm get the double action shadow 2 and your only big complaint goes away? Most people are running a shadow 2 in DA anyway, You cant use the SA version in production division.
shadow 2 comes is SA only. can be carried safe also sp01 is better than sp01 tactical its easier to up grade and get it as a race gun .. but both are good weapons
No way I'm carrying a S2. No firing pin block, has a safety......and weight. (Just my preference) Also I disagree the sp01 non tac version is "better" they just offer different options depending on preference.
I own them both and totally agree with you. I'll take (2)SP-01's over a shadow everyday of the week + twice on Sunday!
Alright alright 🙌

Both are awesome. Sp 01 in my worthless opinion one of best 9mm pistols made. Cz 97 bd is a hell of shooter as well. Very accurate. Soft shooting .45.
Your opinion is far from worthless and I agree, the sp-01 is a fantastic pistol. Especially with a trigger upgrade.

A lot of great full size battle worthy handguns, but the SP-01 is tough to beat.. especially at that price 👌🏻
Can’t argue with that, thanks for watching!
Thanks for pointing out the safety features. I'm a newby and thought I pooped the bed by purchasing the shadow 1 over the shadow 2.

Do they make a reasonably priced 75 optic ready? I can’t find one, and that seems like a shame.
They make ‘em but not cheap unless you go with a clone
Thinking the shadow for range and just home defense
That I’ll work
Shadow 2 for range toy/home duty. Keep the SP01 in the past (at least until they offer optic cut) and carry 365 Macro
Solid!
