I want to share my experience. I tried freelance websites for years but got nothing out of them (I have to admit that I also didn't try well and had less experience designing than now) but last week I decided I had enough trying to pursue clients in my city and started on Upwork. I had nothing to lose. For the first 2 days nothing happened, but then I came across this channel, and the results speak for themselves: I just finished my first contract today and I am already in conversations for the second with a new client. Just because I followed these steps and wrote proposals consciously. It has just been 6 days since I signed in. I don't even have a big portfolio.

Hey Evan, thanks for sharing your knowledge. I appreciate it because these tutorials are at a time where I actually NEED to make this happen. My short story for context: I am from Canada but decided to make the move to South Korea in September after not being happy where I was and wanted to change. I landed a fully remote work gig that paid out nicely and I was actually enjoying the work. Things were looking bright and I was pumped to make the jump to being a digital nomad. Well, three days before my flight out of Canada I got called into a meeting with HR and was told that it would not be possible to move abroad and work for the company. This was a huge blow as I sold almost everything I had, threw out 25 years of artwork, gave up my comfy apartment and was about to leave a great friendship with a 10 year roommate. The company told me that I had two days to decide my fate with the organisation - I chose to quit and follow my dreams. Now I am in South Korea and really enjoying where I am. However, rent and food isn't free and money is slowly but surely running out. In about a month and a half I'll be on the streets in Seoul if I don't come up with some results. So I have started various online side hustles and reopened my old Upwork account (has some gig experience and five star reviews). I have watched several of your tutorials on how to succeed on Upwork and also looked at your course site and honestly I am impressed. I just purchased your MVP Upwork course and will be going through the videos starting today. I understand that success won’t happen overnight but now is the time to start for me. This is awesome. A video on setting clear expectations would be helpful, as job descriptions often lack details to evaluate time and cost. I am new to Upwork but have extensive experience in my field. Finding clients was not too difficult, but managing expectations is challenging. Many do not understand development complexity, time requirements, or software limitations, and often expect quick fixes for low budgets. For example, a client wanted to create a board game in a spreadsheet, expecting fast cell read and write functions. While possible, spreadsheets are too slow for game logic, making it hard to meet such expectations.

I have been working for nearly three years on Upwork as a secondary option, the primary being Fiverr. Now that Fiverr is no longer getting me enough work, I am working to shift over to Upwork. Action time 🎞 My video notes (Feel free to steal it) - Break the barrier. Don't over-think, post minimum 10 proposals per day (No templates!) - Add a hook at the start of your proposal, don’t make it generic, make it personalised. Add some twist to keep them interested - Go into the client shoes while writing your proposal. Keep them in mind fist. What drives them beyond this job? Why they need this job to be done? What problems would it solve. - Write about you, show your authority, show them you have helped and solved similar problem in the past. Try to keep it short (Remember a cover letter should be 90% about client & 10% about you) - Add your customer reviews. Add few snippets from them, not entire testimonial. Demonstrate your authority here. - Majority of Upwork clients are not expert. Be a guide. Show them what to do next after your proposal. - Add a 'PS' at the end of the cover letter. Make it personalise. 79% people read PS first, cover letter second. Add value into your PS, give something extra. Thanks!

Bro i just want to know one thing - how to beat the experience factor as most clients wants to give projects in my construction industry to freelancers with on paper 2-3 yrs of experience now i have what it takes to fully complete the project single handedly with my internship skills, but how to convince the potential clients when they're just measuring our ability in terms of years of experience ? Sometimes i feel does lying about experience helps or not as some individuals have done it...
Don't lie about your experience, it will come back to bite you. Rather, focus on *that one little thing you can do AWESOME* and build your skills from there by way of creating great work examples for the larger jobs you want to do 😍

This is not the first time I considered UpWork for freelance because the first time I did it, it was exactly what Evan said - I didn't write enough proposals because I went into "analysis paralysis". Thats informative … im new to upwork aspiring for devops clients but the issue im facing is that by the time we follow these steps, the porposal count on the job reaches 10-15 within minutes or even more and boom the job is gone. yes its a matter of patince and im bearing with it.

This is awesome. A video on setting clear expectations would be helpful, as job descriptions often lack details to evaluate time and cost. I am new to Upwork but have extensive experience in my field. Finding clients was not too difficult, but managing expectations is challenging. Many do not understand development complexity, time requirements, or software limitations, and often expect quick fixes for low budgets. For example, a client wanted to create a board game in a spreadsheet, expecting fast cell read and write functions. While possible, spreadsheets are too slow for game logic, making it hard to meet such expectations.
I'm a new freelancer, I've been into Upwork the last 2 months and still nothing. But after just watched your videos, i know there are a lot of chance to get a job. You are awesome. I have been working for nearly three years on Upwork as a secondary option, the primary being Fiverr. Now that Fiverr is no longer getting me enough work, I am working to shift over to Upwork. Although Top-Rated, I never got the hang of writing Cover Letters and relied on Projects and invitations to get work. Your video is amazing! I'm on the road to hit 1M myself (just passed 800K), but man if these videos would have been around then, I would be much further. I have changed my profile, I have started to use the reverse hook (I had something similar, but less, less sophisticated). Your energy is awsome, as well as your acting/accent skills. My video notes (Feel free to steal it)
- Break the barrier. Don't over-think, post minimum 10 proposals per day (No templates!)
- Add a hook at the start of your proposal, don’t make it generic, make it personalised. Add some twist to keep them interested
- Go into the client shoes while writing your proposal. Keep them in mind fist. What drives them beyond this job? Why they need this job to be done? What problems would it solve.
- Write about you, show your authority, show them you have helped and solved similar problem in the past. Try to keep it short (Remember a cover letter should be 90% about client & 10% about you)
- Add your customer reviews. Add few snippets from them, not entire testimonial. Demonstrate your authority here.
- Majority of Upwork clients are not expert. Be a guide. Show them what to do next after your proposal.
- Add a 'PS' at the end of the cover letter. Make it personalise. 79% people read PS first, cover letter second. Add value into your PS, give something extra.

Bro i just want to know one thing - how to beat the experience factor as most clients wants to give projects in my construction industry to freelancers with on paper 2-3 yrs of experience now i have what it takes to fully complete the project single handedly with my internship skills, but how to convince the potential clients when they're just measuring our ability in terms of years of experience ? Sometimes i feel does lying about experience helps or not as some individuals have done it...
Don't lie about your experience, it will come back to bite you. Rather, focus on *that one little thing you can do AWESOME* and build your skills from there by way of creating great work examples for the larger jobs you want to do 😍

To be honest, I just discovered this channel yesterday (as of writing this comment). This is not the first time I considered UpWork for freelance because the first time I did it, it was exactly what Evan said - I didn't write enough proposals because I went into "analysis paralysis". Now, I have the right set of tools that I even literally took down notes. As he said on the end, I will be piecing these together on my own. I will not just hope but I will be sure right now that this time, this will work.

Thats informative … im new to upwork aspiring for devops clients but the issue im facing is that by the time we follow these steps, the porposal count on the job reaches 10-15 within minutes or even more and boom the job is gone. yes its a matter of patince and im bearing with it.
