UPDATE: New Adam Scramstad album "Its a Long Way to Go" is now available: adamscramstad.... My take on a finger-style standard "The Last Steam Engine Train" ... Cheers! - Adam Scramstad
That is unreal bro I love it I’m trying to learn to play in that style it takes dedication and patience I love learning this style I can play lots of stuff but it’s taking me a while to break through with this style the thumb and finger s won’t work Together properly!! When that day comes I hope will be soon I’m Gona dance for Ireland like a crazy guy 😂😂happy playing amazing tune and sound from that Martin guitar take care !!! Is that an 00028 cheers Brian Ireland 🇮🇪
You know it's top notch when you check your video playback speed. NOPE, he is actually playing THAT FAST and THAT ACCURATELY. A truly talented man. I love his expression to- he clearly loves music.
This is my favourite rendition of this song by far, i watch this video often. Seeing the joy this gives you as well as hearing this wonderful piece of music gives me an immense sense of joy. Thank you.
You are to be highly commended for your hard work. We know that doesn't come easy. It sounds beautiful! It sounds American! That's Americana! I admire you. I wish you were my neighbor so you could teach me that. That's a joy spreader right there! Great song, and executed beautifully! Brav O
Yeah you need that playing card in the bicycle spokes sound on the B part and you need to hold the stretch in the A part. I’ve been working on this for about a month. I play it almost exactly like this! Well done. The A string is getting microphonic and octavely , try getting closer to the bridge with your picking hand on the C part!
It might be his technique is so developed it appears smaller, but if you play with a little bit of an angle on the thumb pick it probably just takes loads of work, but I have been wondering myself(a minute before I read this comment) if you could make your own thumb pick with a smaller pick part.
Nice patch. More Fahey or Kottke? Sound like a nice mix of the two, and you too, I suppose. It's kind of got that Hedges, Layover bass, which has a special kind of energy. Thanks.
how does he do that thing where hes thumpicking the bass notes and fingerpicking the treble notes at the same time? ive been trying for ages and i cant do it any tips?
Thank you very much! Maybe later this summer, if I make a transcription I will post it - Otherwise, I play it a bit different each time :) Cheers! - Adam
This is no faster than Fahey and slower than Kottke. The tempo here is how I would play it, if I could do so cleanly. The piece is propulsive in feel, not merely fast. If the song title does, in fact, provide context, then the composition and this performance effectively conveys motion, persistence, and forward thrust. But, this is just one humble interpretation.
The best player I’ve seen on youtube. 110% authentic sounding and a real sportin’ playing (both hands !). Woah !
Thank you for the kind words!! Cheers! - Adam
This young guy is pretty good, too.

Love seeing that smile when you are playing. Shows how much joy you feel from playing
Easy does it, Scramstad. That's my rulin'. Yours Truly, Judge Roy Bean.
Yeee Haw! Pickin' an a grinnin'! Reminds me of Hee Haw! Great job on guitar.
Very nice! This is actually a John Fahey song, but Leo Kottke brought it to the mainstream.
Beautiful guitar playing! Thank you for sharing this!

Amazing guitar playing! Please make a "How to play" :D

Yes he is pretty fast but look at Leo Kottke / 1974 / Last Steam Engine Train - he is the Express Train !
this version is the benchmark for me. Well done Adam!
Acoustic fire, great work, man!
Amazing:)
Best version of this song I’ve found! Great job!
Great job letting those notes ring out. Your twice as accurate as Leo is nowadays. I’ve heard dozens of versions yours is one of the best.
Thank you for the kind words! Cheers, Adam

Nice playing sir, late to know the title of this piece. It gives so much vibes hearing this piece, hope to play this too.

Beautiful rendition! Having seen Leo multiple times and covering this song myself. I really love your style.
Best version on TH-cam - without question.
No - Leo Kottke is !
Best version on youtube. I want to be this good one day.
Very good, crisper than bacon fryin' on an atomic stove, hur hur! 😄 Did you forget how to end it? 🙂
Adam, Nicely done! You set the standard for that song.
I play the version you play . I like how the 1st A lick sounds up the next, instead of open.
I hear you ⚡️
Superb spirit and perfect musicality. Thank you for making us enjoy this benefit.
great man good playing, not too fast or too slow, I think John would like it!
WOW! Hey you any relations to Brad? I met him In Grande Prairie Alberta and I have his album
A Travis picking masterpiece at its best!
Do you use any products to harden your nails? Mine break/tear as long as i try to grow them
AMAZING PERFORMANCE!
I'd love to learn this, can you please make a tutorial or post the tab?
You can find a great tab on classclef.
I like this since you play the A at the 5th fret like Fahey does
that A ... I'm taking it
You're the best!!
Wow that trill man. Awesome playing! Subscribed
I want to learn this not sure where to start
Sorry for this, maybe at the begginging. ;) :D joke aside me too.
Outstanding!
Que buena versión no tienes la tab please 🙏👌
Outstanding rendition of Kottke. Very few can really nail it, but you did. Hat's off.
It’s Fahey. He’s blending elements of Fahey’s and Kotke’s versions.
Sounds great Adam 👍

As a total outsider - Your guitar playing is masterful. Thank you for diggin' on some Merle Travis and keep that thumb thumpin'.
Oooh I liked that! Could almost hear the steam train passing by!
Great tune man, awesome sound 🤘
what type of thumb pick are you using? looks smaller/less intrusive than most i've seen (if that even is a thumb pick?)
It might be his technique is so developed it appears smaller, but if you play with a little bit of an angle on the thumb pick it probably just takes loads of work, but I have been wondering myself(a minute before I read this comment) if you could make your own thumb pick with a smaller pick part.
It could one of those see through yellow Dunlop’s thumb pick, I’ve seen someone use it
Nice patch. More Fahey or Kottke? Sound like a nice mix of the two, and you too, I suppose. It's kind of got that Hedges, Layover bass, which has a special kind of energy. Thanks.

Really good pickin', unfortunately the train went off the rails at the end of the line!

Take it from me, this is really good shit.
The 3 hitting thumb down must suffer Parkinson
That's a big WOW!!! I'm studying your version, every note, but I miss 2 or 3 passages. Can you make a tutorial?
Thank you very much! Maybe later this summer, if I make a transcription I will post it - Otherwise, I play it a bit different each time :) Cheers! - Adam

めちゃくちゃうめぇ、、、まじか。。
okay but seems a bit rushed
Have you heard the song????? It's really fast. Think before you speak.
This is no faster than Fahey and slower than Kottke. The tempo here is how I would play it, if I could do so cleanly. The piece is propulsive in feel, not merely fast.
