Hey to whomever is running this page and naming the videos, I think you're awesome, and ship nerds everywhere love this channel! I love you, happy holidays!!!
Never heard the double salute an welcome before. Usually just one time three long an two short.. I'm sure it's the great Paul the videographer. The filming is a beautiful sight to see. The cold water meeting the warmth of the bough is an amazing sight to see. My Dear Gramma would say no artist could paint that picture. Merry Christmas, Happy Days ahead we pray.
Amazing. Like the ship's bridge dressed up with holiday lighting. Easy to take for granted these folks who brave the cold and elements to deliver shipments..hope they stay safe and sound in their travels.
Really cool video! At the beginning, when the American Century is approaching the harbor entrance with those clouds swirling about it, it looks like a ghost ship emerging from the fog.
First time seeing anything like this and i'm feeling blessed. Most folks have never seen anything like this. Hats off to the expert pilot of this city on the great lakes. ✌❤🙏 🇺🇸 Excellent tug job also.
I'm a Ship Nerd,,,,,and as I watch this from a warm bed with my cat, I can't believe there's people out there, in these ships,, IN THE ICE COLD WATER,,,,,YIKES..stay safe and warm..
Thank you! Thank you! I absolutely love seeing all of the Great Lakes Ships coming and leaving the Harbor!! ❤❤ And wow!! 😍 The American Century is all lit up and decorated so beautifully!! I especially love seeing the crew preforming the deicing duties!! ❤❤❤ I really really love this channel!! Thank you Duluth Harbor Cam!!! Us Great Lakes Boat Nerds Absolutely Love This!!!! 😍🥰💙❤
I was born in Duluth, moved away when I was eight years old and never looked back.....untill recently. I have become somewhat obsessed with watching these videos. Thanks
Gorgeous night shot!! Love this! Merry Christmas to you, the channel master and to all the hard working harbor guys & tug guys! To everyone, a blessed Christmas.
WOW it might have just been the camera angle, but, she looked like she was going to clip the edge of the pier at marker 9:04 to 9:08.. phew I was holding my teeth hard waiting for the crunch..
@@blackmoom I was referring to myself as a “Saltie” I only ever entered the lakes once during my 50 years at sea and was admiring the pilot and Master’s handling of such a long vessel. The Compliments of the Season to you and your’s Sir.

@@StephensStudio-1 There is obviously a difficulty in our understanding of our common language here I guess your term “saltie” refers to ships only. My understanding as a native English speaker is it refers to ships AND men wherein I as a “saltie” was a seafarer on “ saltie” ships that occasionally visited the Great Lakes . Our occupations are inextricably linked in that we both work on large bodies of water and face similar dangers and pleasures, as in the loss of the Edmund Fitzgerald ( Lakes disaster ) and Derbyshire in a Typhoon in Pacific ……that’s all. I Hope you have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year …and Keep on Trucking😁🎅🏻🎉🍾
Having been in the navy I’ve heard a few ship horns but I can tell that was the throatiest one. I would love to have that one mounted on my house and everytime these kids drove by with their bass thumping garbage rattling my windows give them a couple toots and see how they like it.
We saw her come in on ships camera live. During more pleasant weather people who live in the Duluth area will stand along the sides of the ship channel to watch these huge ships come into the Duluth harbor. Often times the Ships Captain will give a salute with his ships horn. Merry Christmas everyone.
Literally a brillaint idea that the lights on the bridge ends project the ships path on the water. No guesswork on where the ship is pointed. First time I've seen that.
For a minute, I was like... "deiced" What's "deiced"? ....Oh. :D These ships are breathtaking. Ever since I spent a week on the St. Lawrence seaway 14 years ago, the breathtaking size of these large vessels has held a place in my conscious that makes me appreciate them in a way I never could if I hadn't seen them with my own eyes. I saw one or two 800 footers, so adding another 200' to the visual is hard to fathom!
I have an aunt and uncle that lived in Duluth for several years and would take us down almost every time we visited and it was so cool watching these ships come in and it's amazing how loud the horns are in person
Those cameras are on 24/7, send a ship. I've seen a Norwegian freighter built in 1949 and some from the Mediterranean countries but never yet a British. Perhaps they're more comfortable up in Canada
The Soo Locks close on the 15Th of January so that closes shipping on Lake Superior, The lower lakes which is Michigan, Huron and Erie have some shipping then the locks open again on 15th of March.
@@robwar2288 there’s two common types of ships. Lakers, which stay in the lakes, and salties which are international and travel the oceans. You can usually tell by the bow shape, and whether they have a few cranes (salty) or a single long boom (laker) on the deck

I live here and son can name every ship just by the sound of the horn 😊
It is wonderfully eerie and spooky and BEAUTIFUL! 💜
Wow that looks amazing but oh so cold. Stay warm, Duluth!
Loved the Christmas lights and all the calls back and forth. Thanks DHC as always!! Oh and the salutes!!
And the beautiful photography. Merry Christmas.
This has to be the coolest video you have ever posted. All are great but this is one I have had to watch several times
I love seeing all the ships get festive this time of year! And that dramatic fog, wow! What a great entrance for the American Century. :)
Hollywood could not do any better! This is absolutely beautiful.

saw this coming in; beautiful but eerie, seeing the 'smoke' curling over the deck.

Have not been In Duluth In a long time loved watching the saltys and the ore boats come in the 1000 fts are so cool
Completely impressed and in great admiration of the hearty souls dressed in their winter best for this! It feels cold just watching it.
Gotta love those people standing in “feels like -30 weather”! That’s dedication!
We are true Nords lol. We grow hearty in Duluth lol
All of videos are great but this one takes the cake! Outstanding 👍🏻🎥💯
Absolutely stunning images, thank you so much!!!
Wow, absolutely incredible footage. Thank you for sharing.
the signals sound different in that bitter cold, especially the bridge horn.
The best entrance yet! Thank you captain and crew. And thank you cam operators. Merry Christmas!
OMG beautiful but damn cold. Mike, thank you for capturing this.
I liked the radio chatter! Gives a whole lot better perspective as to what is happening!
How can somebody not find this over the top amazing
I love seeing these ships cruise by the walkway, especially at night with their running lights and such. Beautiful!

Would have loved to have been in the lighthouse for that arrival what a sight (in spirit I've already moved to Duluth harbor)🤗🥰😇

Being a “ Saltie” that is excellent ship handling of such a long ship. The “square” stern lends itself for quick turns.

the horn is for the bridge, but its supposed to be 2 long three short. but they simplify it with one long and two short.
awesome video, best wishes from the UK,I really enjoy the content.
I love the way the ships all seem to decorate for Christmas.
L'arrivée d'un vaisseau fantôme ! Merci pour ces images fantastiques !
Un grand bonjour depuis le nord de la France !🙋🏼♂️
The shadows cast in the sea smoke almost look like a hologram at times.

Liked watching the Century, Spirit, and Integrity come into US Steel. Turning on a dime in the middle of the Detroit River.
Wow that turn looked close !

Great video.
Amazing!
Is there any chance we could have a video of one of these majestic ships coming into the harbour, thanks, Trev in the UK

Beautiful!
I used to live up there when I was a kid and let me tell you it is very cold.
Really, really nice video. How cold was it the evening this was filmed?
Do you remember winter 78-79 when Buffalo got over 10 foot of snow?
Local Duluth wiseguy yells at the dudes hosing down the ship..'Yo', ya' ever de-ice each other?'
With it being so cold and ice is forming how long before this current shipping season ends and they all take their winter break? Any ideas?

Nice shot from WI side
I'm from Delaware and I never understood why a lot of US merchant ships are registered out of Wilmington De. Anyone on here know ?
Possibly for business purposes (?) Lots of corporations have their headquarters in Delaware, might be something to do with taxes.
Tax reasons I believe Delaware has more ships registered there than the rest of the country
soooo cool!
Magnificent ❤
great shot
Merry Christmas 🎅 🎄
You know it’s down right cold when the water is smoking
Icy Cauldron. That sounds like a Stephen King horror movie.
How would I find what ship came in on this same day (Dec. 22nd, 2022) at/very close to 11:10 AM ?
Bet those Men are glad they made it in before today's Storm!
Wicked looking and delightful...just like some MN women I know 🙏😎
The ship is like a ghost coming out of the fog
What messages do the different mariner horn sounds mean.
One long, two short is the captains salute
Hello from La Pine Oregon Ray Skelton aka Bones sister Susie Skelton Nielsen
Merry Christmas !!
That thumbnail would make for an AWESOME calendar image, if not a computer wallpaper.
For a minute there
I could swear that Boat wasn't moving. Hmm
Can somebody please decipher those horn blasts? I would like to know what each one represents and if related to Morse Code.
So what do these ships haul and where do they go?
Iron ore boats, they go from Duluth on the west side of Superior to the mills back east. They never leave the lakes.
@@marvindebot3264 thanks! I was wondering if they ever left.
