    I have some of the albums you've mentioned in this video and I have to disagree with you regarding them having a disco flavor all the way through. Dynasty for example has one disco flavored song ( I Was Made for Lovin' You). Then you have one with a funky bass riff(Easy Livin') and one with a soul/funk influence (Sue Know Something),, hardly disco. The other 6 tracks don't have anything that sounds remotely disco. It's the same with Lou Reed,, I don't heare any Disco in there, even the song with the word Disco in the title sound more like a funk /R&B infused track. Santana, Fandango and the Stones each have the odd song with a but of disco flavor but it's just that, the odd song. Disco doesn't permeate these albums from start to finish and to suggest it does is possibly putting potential rock fans off them. You have a great channel and a lot of knowledge and I respect that, being a collector myself with similar tastes to yourself I like to recommend things to people and sometimes it's not straight forward trying to explain what something sounds like. You have a platform though and can influence your subscribers to check something out or not. Personally I just don't hear what you do with the ones I've mentioned above but happy to be proved wrong if you can tell me where the disco tracks are on Dynasty that I can't find.

      Agree with Carl on much of his comments, really not sure that a sub genre of disco rock ever existed, maybe the odd song rather than a whole album, probably more that a link existed with westcoast rather than rock, with the likes of Earth Wind and Fire, interesting subject but maybe limited to individual songs rather than whole albums maybe had been a better way to approach this subject.Maybe similar to the great ELO from the Discovery era would be Sweet with Oxygen. But Again this is not true Disco in terms of the Bee Gees just very melodic rock of the era. If you want to talk about some real crossover of genres, listen to the likes of Prince with the song, Bambi, a true example of a genius.

    Interesting sub-genre indeed. Bands like Medusa (check them out if you aren't aware of them), Shotgun or Rubicon come to mind and records like the first solo album by Glenn Hughes or Rod Stewart's "Blondes Have More Fun". Looking forward to a second edition of this episode.

    John Travolta said Disco music, which actually started around 1974, was already on it's way out in 1977 when Saturday Night Fever was released. They were worried nobody who watch the film. Little did they know Saturday Night Fever would reignite the music & scene again, making it MORE popular up until 1980.

    Though the albums you mentioned have mostly disco-flavored tracks, I think Mayday's self-titled debut album from 1981 deserves a passing nod though most of that album is straight ahead hard AOR. The cut "Life in Space" is a great and quirky fusion of hard rock and disco, and it even hit Billboard's dance/disco charts! The cut "Love Affair" is also quite danceable, too.

    Thank you Brendon l really enjoy your show. Kind of new to your show, starting to think we may share the same taste in some areas of music. When I watched your video Best of 2023 So Far. You really started to earn my Trust and Respect. When on that Show you rated Extreme 6 & Winger 7 so high. I have almost all of the Extreme CD's missing Live In Texas. Really enjoyed Winger 7 And that is my only Winger CD. Is there Winger CD that come close to 7 that you would suggest? If you could help me out that would be great!
    Anyway getting back to today video. In 1979 I was 18 years. I remember Hating Disco and still not really a fan... I also remember very well when KISS come out with I Was Made For Lovin' You. Great choice for your pick as number on by the way. I loved that song! Even though it went against my hate for Disco. I always thought it was just a one off Disco sounding song from KISS. So now you're telling me the whole album has a Disco sound to it! WTF! LOL. You have just blown my mind! Guess I will just have to buy that CD for myself. For Testing Only, LOL.
    Once again great job Brendon, lookin forward to see what's you have next and Bless you if you made it this far. I'll try to keep it shorter next time.

    Unmasked and Dynasty was always the same sounding album to me. I loved listening to them and still do. I still like the music I've always listened to. Never understood folks when they say like "Back in the day I listened to this or that".

    • @treff9226
      @treff9226 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Facts! What in the hell is this "back in the day" stuff?!?! I think when you really like a piece of music, it's a lifelong thing, it might lose a little of it's sparkle, but there is still some joy to hear it, no matter how old it is. Now there are songs that have been so overplayed and that does lead to listener fatigue, but I have NEVER sold back or discarded a single solitary record or CD due to no longer digging it - not possible in my world! And I own over 8 thousand CDs and records! As I'm sure it is for you, what happens with my musical tastes are they just keep expanding, liking things I used to pay no attention to at all. Peace.

    Great list, Brendon. And while perhaps slightly bias on my part (because the band I am about to mention is one of my all-time favs.) I think an LP that would slot into that category seamlessly would be *Cycles* by *Redbone.* A damn funky release if I have ever heard one. And for the record (see what I did there?) 🤪 they have a bushel full of other funky tunes sprinkled throughout there discography, as well. Just sayin.’ Cheers!!! 😉

      @@JCStorm76 Big thanks for the response, I did check out some song samples and the production of the album left a lot to be desired. Of course, that kind of sterile sound was common back then. Again, I greatly appreciate your feedback and be well! Love that Queen album, The Game!

    Bren: you probably haven't heard Edgar Winter's contributions to actual disco but they're on the albums "Instant Replay" and "Relight My Fire" by his former band mate Dan Hartman. Hartman went on to become a very popular writer, producer and artist in the field of disco.
