A slight departure from my normal videos, I spent the last few days out in Johnson Valley at the 2017 King of the Hammers. I have a few videos coming but wanted to share some of the Hammertown vibe and experience with those who couldn't attend in person

Do rigs like the ole' Chevy and Dodge at 3:00 and the Jeep at 8:10 run the course?
The rigs you cited do not run in the race itself. However, there are some unofficial nighttime contests in the rock gardens where people can 'run what ya' brung'. There are videos of people in these contests driving a wide range of vehicles, but if nothing else, the vehicle you mentioned at 3:00 does not have enough ground clearance to be even remotely competitive. I wonder if these unsanctioned events will continue - some the drivers pose a liability (DUI, etc.)

I'm building a truck for next year it's a 1941 military truck
I would prefer to use all around independent suspension instead of a solid axle when jumping vehicles. If somebody were to land wrong on a solid axle, it would most definitely snap. That's not really the case with all around independent suspension. With all around independent suspension, you have no chance of breaking axles. More like breaking a wheel off
Traction
@@MerricksGarage Solid axles give the trucks better traction?
Yup as one tire gets articulated down the axle acts as a lever pushing the other tire down increasing traction. That is why you don’t see IFS rock crawlers. Ultra4 is relatively new and the mix of high speed desert (ifs) and low speed rocks (solid) makes for a good test of all. That is what makes the hammers such an awesome event.
That should say articulated up the other side is pushed down.

Those "trucks" are buggies. Calling them a truck is a travesty. A truck needs to at least be capable of having a fiberglass truck body put on it. Those things look more like a class1 buggy then a truck.
calling them a class one is even worse cause they would walk an U4 in the desert.. they are biggies thats it.
