Qatar does this with business class too. Even if you book Q suite, if the plane is changed you go to the inferior business product. Even though you paid for a Q suite seat.

Not being negative at all, very honest. Shocking soft product. Hard product such as cabin design is truely world class. Shame they spent all the money on that. The service is something of a low coast airline or in between. Not to mention the cheap warehouse style packaging giving the customer a perception of “sustainability”. Obviously very disappointing considering Finnair is such a iconic brand. Great review again!
Thanks for watching our video kap :-D We booked in May 2022 (flew in December 2022) long before the codeshare agreement between Qatar Airways, Finnair and Malaysia Airlines was announced, so there was no indication that we would not be flying with Qatar Airways. Had we known about the meal standard (one Vegan meal choice) before hand then we probably would have look into pre-ordering. That said we would not be prepared to pay extra for that (on Finnair) as a delicious meal onboard Qatar Airways (in past experience) is also part of the price (with two choices of meals and complimentary drinks throughout the flight). We paid for the Qatar Airways service specifically ;-)
So ironic that one of the world's best airlines would cheat it's passengers like that. Although Finnair is probably one of Europe's best airlines, it cannot subsitute Qatar Airways. Not even Singapore Airlines can beat Middle Eastern food.

I'm taking this flight in a few weeks from now. First of all, I was informed when I booked my ticket that the first stage of my flight to the Philippines was operated by Finnair. Seeing your video, I really don't see a lot of bad things about this flight. I do agree that the food probably could be better. Maybe I'm lucky and they made an upgrade on that before my flight 😊 Copenhagen - Doha, I wouldn't call that a long haul flight.
Hi Maro it is the same if you fly from stockholm.When we book this Qatar flight it was stated that this is flown by Finnair och Kuala Lumpur sector is flown by Malaysian Airline.Totally agreed with u that Qatar flight is much better with 5 Star service and food

I thought all the Nordic aviation nerds were already familiar with the Qatar + Finnair deal 😁 It was widely discussed after the announcement in Aug 2022. Finnair now flies 1x daily from ARN/CPH/HEL to DOH, feeding Qatar Airways who sell the majority (around 75%) of the seats on these flights. Naturally the service on these routes is approved by Qatar, they are the boss, so the Qatar ticket holders should address their complains to DOH.
We booked this flight in May 2022 ;-) There should not even be a situation where any customer should have to submit a complaint in the first place. We are still fighting to get our points for all the flights... Obviously we will, in the future avoid flying this route (CPH - DOH) when operated by an airline other that Qatar Airways... Personally having taken both Finnair and Qatar Airways on long-haul flights to and from Singapore, I actually found that Qatar Airways was quite overrated and Finnair is underrated, personal opinion. Emirates wins over Qatar Airways for me. I wouldn't mind if they had swapped my Qatar Airways flight for a Finnair one to be honest. That said, the meal does seem different from the one I had SIN-HEL-SIN some years back. I believe the change to plant-based meals seems to be more of an 'environmentally sustainable' move, along with the cutlery and food packaging, seeing as how carbon emissions from flights are a huge contributor to global warming and climate change. Singapore Airlines attempted the same thing with food packaging (but it received some backlash lol)
Shocking that the flight got changed. Terrible meal it seems and legroom also looks bad for Maxi. Minimum notice should be given before departure date. Month minimum. Qatar this is cheeky treatment. Same thing happened when I flew Vancouver to Frankfurt on Lufthansa. It was changed to Eurowings Discover and blankets and headphones has a fee! Horrific
It amazes us how many of our viewers are also experiencing these type of issues. Changing the airline/plane can be necessary for many reasons but, the passenger (in our opinion) should be compensated and/or at the least be given the same service onboard the other aircraft/airline that they would have received on the airline they originally carefully (in our case) paid for. Im just back from Cape Town to Dublin and qatar airways is not the same,, the food is absolutely appalling, the movies are the same as 12 months ago, no idea how they get 5star, next time I travel ill lay extra and go Emirates or ethihad
How about the transit? How many hours you had before? Im planning to book from HEL,Finland to CRK,Philippines but the offered transit time is only 1 hour and 45 minutes. Is the time would be enough for the transit?
Hi there! Same as last time you asked 😉 The flickering is because of the lights onboard and the cameras frame rate setting - we could not see it when filming. Google "lights flickering" to get an answer to why this happens. The lens is used for the low light options it gives - but we are still learning to focus it, on both of us, up close (if it can be done) in darker conditions which requires a low aperture 😀 We are happy with the background blur as it saves a lot of blurring work.
@@TravellerYT so next time remember to adjust the frame rate so you won’t get same results 😊. Is it in auto mode or did you adjust the settings yourself?
Settings are manual - auto cannot handle the Low Light conditions ;-) As said we could not see the flickering on the display. On the next flight there was no problem. Had we seen it, then it would just have been a case of switching the camera from PAL to NTSC (we think that would have solved the problem). We experience the same here in Denmark - Samsung phones (our Galaxy series) cannot be switched to EU formats so we always get light flickering on videos filmed with them - very frustrating. It´s very difficult to let in a lot of light to the camera (through the lens) while sitting so closely to the camera so the compromise is that one of us will be a little blurred in the future.
@@TravellerYT Hmmm okay im not so experienced in filming, mostly steady shots, but as i remember youre previous camera didnt flicker that much ? I just thought you could adjust the framerate so you wouldnt get that flicker. It shouldnt be necessary to switch to ntsc ?
Its shocking that they can get away with doing this! You pay good money for something and you expect a certain level of service but you dont recieve it!! Its like booking a table at a Five Star restaurant and getting told at the last minute that you will have a table reserved at McDonalds instead! If the alternative offered is an equal level of service and standard then fine, otherwise all passengers should be offered a partial refund on their ticket for being booked on an inferior service!! I would be furious and I really think you should write a very strongly worded letter to the airlines involved about this. They shouldnt be allowed to get away with doing this to passengers!

Me and my family bought our tickets on Qatar Airways own website from Sthlm - Manila and from Sthlm to Doha its Finnair... so lets hope its a bit better now 3 months later haha

What a bummer for you both to be swapped to Finnair and MH from QR. If you’re coming back to SEA this winter, hope you both can consider flying SQ again! You can also fly SAS to Bangkok again since they’ll be starting a new 3x weekly CPH-BKK winter seasonal svc.
BA did the same to me, paid for a special meal and aisle seat. They cancelled the flight and rebooked on United at the airport in CPH. And got a center seat.
Just got back from Qatar Flights - their A380s were great but their B777s are dreadful. 10 across in economy unlike Singapore or Thai with 9. Constantly bumped by crew and passengers in an aisle seat. I deliberately only booked A380s on a Bangkok to LHR return run but they changed the plane on one leg. To me seats are far more important than food.
FYI Qatar and Finnair has a code share, which means that you book thru Qatar, but another airline will serve you. This information is available on there website, when you book. I know that on this flight, and all the other one Finnair operates for qatar, the first 3 rows is Premium economy as you saw. Book them and you will premium service for the same as economy. The reason why I wasn’t informed could be that they just started the codeshare.
We booked in May 2022 before the agreement 😉 Had we known that the route was operated by Finnair then we would have chosen a different airline. We avoid Finnair Long-haul as we are very aware of the limited service they offer.
Maxi, Where did all this love towards qatar airways come from? From your previous reports I understood you were not a fan at all of the airline. Also, I just booked a QR flight recently and it was very clear that the flight is operated by Finnair and I did upgrade class because I do want comfort so that’s always an option too … I do agree the coffee service you got lacked an accompanying sweet which should be served always with coffee (Come on Finnair) but the snack sandwich that you called Pathetic looked rather lovely to me 😅Anyways nice to watch your reports always , absolutely love Maro and your parents 😊
Hi there Yasmin, thanks for watching. You are absolutely correct, we were never big fans of Qatar Airways. Our love for them came in April 2022 when we flew with them between Copenhagen and Kuala Lumpur and had a super service (watch the videos from then when we tell how impressed we were ;-) ). Our flights with Qatar Airways were booked in May 2022 where this agreement between Finnair and Qatar Airways was not there. Had we known that Finnair would operate this flight then we would not have taken this route (we are aware that Finnair does not provide the onboard service that we get on Asian Airlines on these same Long-haul routes therefore we avoid them as is the case with SAS - our own home airline - we avoid them for the same reason). Glad that the bun looks lovely to you ;-) we all have our own opinions and expectations - we were not impressed (we have had better with other airlines). The same thing happened to us when we had booked a Qantas flight to KL and at the airport found it had been switched out for Malaysian Airlines. And to make matters worse they changed our seats so we weren’t able to sit together. I always look forward to the food too and would happily pay more for a better quality meal as it definitely improves the experience. Not long now before your next trip away 😃

We will gladly pay a little bit extra for better Economy Class Service (something between Economy and Premium). Passengers who wish to fly budget have the option of choosing Low Cost carriers. @ Danielle , as far as I’m aware, Qantas has never flown to KL from Australia in the last 11 years that I have been frequent flyer. As Malaysian Airlines are one world partner, this allows Qantas to sell you the flight under QF flight number & booking number, but it will always say the flight is operated by Malaysian Airlines. My mother recently flew to Europe with Qantas to Singapore, then onwards with Finnair to her final destination, and tell the flights were booked under a Finnair ( AY) booking/ flight number.
@@paulsz6194 Hi Paul, you’re right with regards to the destination. It was actually a flight from Melbourne to Singapore where we then caught a flight from there to KL. We were told our QF35 flight had been cancelled and it would now be a flight with Malaysian Airlines.
Awwww man, you both got a raw deal there :(. I'd be disappointed too. You pay for a certain service/provider, it should be of equal exchange if they need to change you. I got last summer e-mail from Qatar Airways that our QSuite flight was changed to a330-300 just couple of weeks before our departure. Also I was waiting to see Finnair’s onflight meal menu you can purchase. They usually have lovely selection there. Finnair celebrate its 100th anniversary this year. Dear Sari nice hearing from you and as always thanks for watching our video. In answer to your question about the change: We recieved the news about the change a couple of weeks before the flight. As far as we remember there were no options offered. It is important to also note that at this stage of a booking (a few weeks up to departure), even if you were to cancel the flight it would be impossible to find another carrier offering seats at the price you originally paid for Economy Class (the class we fly) - otherwise we would have done that. An onboard menu for purchase is not an option or of interest to us (we are on a budget like most other Economy Class travellers when flying)... we fly with carriers who offer an onboard service (mainly the fantastic Asian carriers with their complimentary drinks and snacks service and relatively good meal service). Finnair or SAS (our two Scandinavian carriers) cannot match the complimentary onboard services of the Asian airlines we normally fly with, which is why we obviously choose the airline that offers us most for our money. We would both love to fly with our national carries but when it comes down to the price it is not about being patriotic (unfortunately)... we are buying a product and like most people we want the best product we can get for our money. In our opinion (and from what we are used to getting from Asian carriers) the Finnair product was not good enough compared to the product we thought we had purchased. The product we experienced would not make us "Returning Customers" on their Long-haul routes. On the other hand on the Asian carriers we always happily return to fly with the same airlines again and again because of the onboard services (with there level of service we are pretty sure that they will also be celebrating 100 years in the air too ;-) ). We are proud of the airline that delivers the best product for the price we have paid! I (Maxi) hope this longer reply answers your question and hopefully you can understand our opinion. Positives were the a330 is gray for couples etc and I thought the inside decor was beautiful and clean and again staff lovely . Food looked atrocious and terrible service as in products available . You paid for a service you never got and at one point your face looked angry not just disappointed. Have you thought of sending an email as maybe you might receive some gift or money back just a thought . Enjoyed this very much and onto the next one . Have a nice weekend
I love you Guys ! Such a shame Qatar switched carrier although Finnair look ok, I recently flew Qatar to Thailand via Doha the London to Doha was the A350 and beautiful but from Doha to Thailand was in a really old A330 the service was good but the plane had seen much better days.

I would be disappointed as well! One good aspect is that you got their refurbished new a330s, going from Qatar to Finnair’s old cabin would’ve been an even worse experience
Going with finnair in July. Luckily only to Doha and then Qatar to Bali. Hopefully this wont be changed. At least we got extra legroom for free on the flight to doha

Sorry I didn't really watch your video before making this comment but do you know that if your ticket is issued by Qatar, for the Finnair operated flights, during online check-in if you are lucky, you should be able to select the seats in rows 21-23 for FREE and these are premium economy seats with not only better seats but also better food! I have been on the Finnair operated flights between Stockholm - Doha and Copenhagen - Doha several times and found this "loophole" :)

I'd take the A330/340 over the 787 any day of the week (unless of course I get to fly upfront) for the sole reason that the 2-4-2 configuration is vastly superior to that of the awful 3-3-3 configuration that seems to be prevailing these days.
Was this a code share flight operated by Finnair on behalf of Qatar as well as other Oneworld partners? Regardless, it's a shame to book on Qatar and not get the travel experience you paid for and was expecting.

In our case we booked long in advance before this codeshare agreement was in place so we had know idea that we would not be flying with Qatar Airways who we intentionally booked because of the good experience we had had with them on the same route in April 2022. Thank you for your heads up on Finnair. The food for me looked very plain and I just couldn't stomach eating boxed and served with wooden cutlery. A little overboard with this environmental or cost cut push. A thumb downs from me on your carrier,; I will have them earmarked not to travel with them.
So understandable to be annoyed with the change to fly with Finnair when you paid good money for flying Qatar airways and their level of service. The meals you got served on this particular flight were looking unsavoury, especially the quinoa salad. And the second serving was so strange with the uneven sized breads. Hopefully this didn't took away the holiday spirit.
if it was me, i would be mad at Qatar airways, they"re the ones who didnt show up... and what did qatar airways did to compensate u? nothing.... they should of upgraded u to economy premium or at very least give u a small credit. Qatar airways tickets logically should be more expensive if they offer so much more. So a compensation is merited. Anyways, it was a great vid:)

I think you had every right to be annoyed at the change. Did you ever get a reason for it? Also, I've never been on a mid-long haul flight where I haven't been given a choice for my meal. That's quite disappointing. Very much looking forward to your MH flight report. I haven't flown with them in over 10 years, and they were great flights back then, so I am curious to see what kind of product they offer now. Have a great weekend. :)
So agree with you. I made the mistake of choosing them for a 13 hour long flight from Helsinki to Singapore. Same food as you, which left me hungry, besides the fact that I didn’t really like it. On this route, crews are outsourced so they didn’t care and were cold/distant. The only good thing was the price which was undeniably lower than the competitors
Hey Maxi and Maro.This report is almost identical to my experience with Finnair except my flight time was 12.5 hours with a lower level of service.On my flight there was no snacks or drinks in the rear galley or any galley like on other major airlines.We also only had 1 meal which was at best mediocre(can't remember what it was it was that amazing) and the snack before landing was just garbage,a crap egg and ham sandwhich that looked like it was made pre-covid.The return flight I didn't even bother with,I booked a 1 way flight with Emirates and had a fantastic 2 flights.Finnair is NOT a company I will fly with again.Just the wooden cutlery is enough to put me off nevermind the awful food and lack of in flight service.Sorry Maro your national airline is a bit rubbish but your trip reports are awesome

We honestly cannot see how airlines taking this approach expect to have returning customers when there are plenty of other options out there. We were generally positive about our experience onboard and would consider becoming returning customers if the Meal Service etc. was inline with the offerings on eg. Asian airlines. I also flew CPH-DOH on Finnair in January 23 (now April 23) and still haven’t gotten my points for this sector - points for the rest of my sectors with QR were at my account almost before the flights were over😂 QR is in generel very inconsistent as for aircraft types used, and for all their services actually except in the skies. QR flight attendants are among the best in the world! Thanks for a very honest and fair review of AY.

QR to AY is quite a downgrade. I agree Finnair is not to be recommended for long-haul. Woeful food & drink service options. Definitely on my "avoid" list. But not much you can do when another carrier forces you onto it! Hope the rest of your trip went well.
It's really ridiculous the way airline companies are treating passengers these days. I was in the same boat as you both. I booked a flight for May and paid to get priority boarding and paid to pre book my seats at a total cost of £49. As soon as my confirmation came through it was only then they told me I would be flying with a different airline. I went on to read the new airline reviews and found out that they don't honor priority boarding or pre booked seating. I think it's a disgrace how they are treating people these days.
This service wasn't very good. You should have had some recourse to claim back some of the ticket price back. The food looks awful, not appetising at all, that was some raw deal. Not sure I'll want to fly Finnair. Thank you for your video.

I would have complained with regards to the food and drink service and it looks dreadful. You certainly got ripped off and you received not what you paid for. Did you complain to Qatar Airways also? I also don’t consider wooden cutlery sustainable as metal. I will totally avoid Finnair, thanks for the heads up.
I’m so sorry you had such a disappointing flight. As you say when you pay good money for a certain airline and then it’s suddenly changed you should at least be getting the same level of food and drinks service. I normally like vegetarian food but that looked disgusting and to not get a choice is appalling. My husband wouldn’t have eaten either of those dishes so he would have been very hungry. Strongly worded email to QA I think. I’m sure Malaysia airlines were much better and I’m looking forward to watching the next instalment.

one of the worst and unprofessional with cold behaviour crew in Finnair. Qatar airways crew is way more professional and I miss flights from Helsinki to Doha operated by Qatar Airways.

Enjoyed watching the flight report. The cabin looked fresh, the meals looked just decent as there was no choice to choose from for the same. We got a new interesting term from this flight report - "Trusty Barf Bag" and that's just hilarious. Have a good rest of your weekend.

Qatar does this with business class too. Even if you book Q suite, if the plane is changed you go to the inferior business product. Even though you paid for a Q suite seat.

Not being negative at all, very honest. Shocking soft product. Hard product such as cabin design is truely world class. Shame they spent all the money on that. The service is something of a low coast airline or in between. Not to mention the cheap warehouse style packaging giving the customer a perception of “sustainability”. Obviously very disappointing considering Finnair is such a iconic brand. Great review again!
That’s very cheeky from Qatar I must say. If looking for more meal options on Finnair then pre ordering is the way to go.
Thanks for watching our video kap :-D We booked in May 2022 (flew in December 2022) long before the codeshare agreement between Qatar Airways, Finnair and Malaysia Airlines was announced, so there was no indication that we would not be flying with Qatar Airways. Had we known about the meal standard (one Vegan meal choice) before hand then we probably would have look into pre-ordering. That said we would not be prepared to pay extra for that (on Finnair) as a delicious meal onboard Qatar Airways (in past experience) is also part of the price (with two choices of meals and complimentary drinks throughout the flight). We paid for the Qatar Airways service specifically ;-)
So ironic that one of the world's best airlines would cheat it's passengers like that. Although Finnair is probably one of Europe's best airlines, it cannot subsitute Qatar Airways. Not even Singapore Airlines can beat Middle Eastern food.

I'm taking this flight in a few weeks from now. First of all, I was informed when I booked my ticket that the first stage of my flight to the Philippines was operated by Finnair. Seeing your video, I really don't see a lot of bad things about this flight. I do agree that the food probably could be better. Maybe I'm lucky and they made an upgrade on that before my flight 😊

I thought all the Nordic aviation nerds were already familiar with the Qatar + Finnair deal 😁 It was widely discussed after the announcement in Aug 2022. Finnair now flies 1x daily from ARN/CPH/HEL to DOH, feeding Qatar Airways who sell the majority (around 75%) of the seats on these flights. Naturally the service on these routes is approved by Qatar, they are the boss, so the Qatar ticket holders should address their complains to DOH.
We booked this flight in May 2022 ;-) There should not even be a situation where any customer should have to submit a complaint in the first place. We are still fighting to get our points for all the flights... Obviously we will, in the future avoid flying this route (CPH - DOH) when operated by an airline other that Qatar Airways... Thanks for sharing your opinion ;-)

Personally having taken both Finnair and Qatar Airways on long-haul flights to and from Singapore, I actually found that Qatar Airways was quite overrated and Finnair is underrated, personal opinion. Emirates wins over Qatar Airways for me. I wouldn't mind if they had swapped my Qatar Airways flight for a Finnair one to be honest. That said, the meal does seem different from the one I had SIN-HEL-SIN some years back. I believe the change to plant-based meals seems to be more of an 'environmentally sustainable' move, along with the cutlery and food packaging, seeing as how carbon emissions from flights are a huge contributor to global warming and climate change. Singapore Airlines attempted the same thing with food packaging (but it received some backlash lol)
It's sold as "saving the planet" but more likely it benefits their bottom line, financially.
Shocking that the flight got changed. Terrible meal it seems and legroom also looks bad for Maxi. Minimum notice should be given before departure date. Month minimum. Qatar this is cheeky treatment.

Same thing happened when I flew Vancouver to Frankfurt on Lufthansa. It was changed to Eurowings Discover and blankets and headphones has a fee! Horrific
It amazes us how many of our viewers are also experiencing these type of issues. Changing the airline/plane can be necessary for many reasons but, the passenger (in our opinion) should be compensated and/or at the least be given the same service onboard the other aircraft/airline that they would have received on the airline they originally carefully (in our case) paid for. Im just back from Cape Town to Dublin and qatar airways is not the same,, the food is absolutely appalling, the movies are the same as 12 months ago, no idea how they get 5star, next time I travel ill lay extra and go Emirates or ethihad

Hi there! Same as last time you asked 😉 The flickering is because of the lights onboard and the cameras frame rate setting - we could not see it when filming. Google "lights flickering" to get an answer to why this happens. The lens is used for the low light options it gives - but we are still learning to focus it, on both of us, up close (if it can be done) in darker conditions which requires a low aperture 😀 We are happy with the background blur as it saves a lot of blurring work.
@@TravellerYT so next time remember to adjust the frame rate so you won’t get same results 😊. Is it in auto mode or did you adjust the settings yourself?
Settings are manual - auto cannot handle the Low Light conditions ;-) As said we could not see the flickering on the display. On the next flight there was no problem. Had we seen it, then it would just have been a case of switching the camera from PAL to NTSC (we think that would have solved the problem). We experience the same here in Denmark - Samsung phones (our Galaxy series) cannot be switched to EU formats so we always get light flickering on videos filmed with them - very frustrating. It´s very difficult to let in a lot of light to the camera (through the lens) while sitting so closely to the camera so the compromise is that one of us will be a little blurred in the future.
@@TravellerYT Hmmm okay im not so experienced in filming, mostly steady shots, but as i remember youre previous camera didnt flicker that much ? I just thought you could adjust the framerate so you wouldnt get that flicker. It shouldnt be necessary to switch to ntsc ?
Its shocking that they can get away with doing this! You pay good money for something and you expect a certain level of service but you dont recieve it!! Its like booking a table at a Five Star restaurant and getting told at the last minute that you will have a table reserved at McDonalds instead! If the alternative offered is an equal level of service and standard then fine, otherwise all passengers should be offered a partial refund on their ticket for being booked on an inferior service!! I would be furious and I really think you should write a very strongly worded letter to the airlines involved about this. They shouldnt be allowed to get away with doing this to passengers!

When I was going to Doha from Stockholm I booked with Qatar Airways and it shifted to Finnair.

Me and my family bought our tickets on Qatar Airways own website from Sthlm - Manila and from Sthlm to Doha its Finnair... so lets hope its a bit better now 3 months later haha

What a bummer for you both to be swapped to Finnair and MH from QR. If you’re coming back to SEA this winter, hope you both can consider flying SQ again! You can also fly SAS to Bangkok again since they’ll be starting a new 3x weekly CPH-BKK winter seasonal svc.
BA did the same to me, paid for a special meal and aisle seat. They cancelled the flight and rebooked on United at the airport in CPH. And got a center seat.

Just got back from Qatar Flights - their A380s were great but their B777s are dreadful. 10 across in economy unlike Singapore or Thai with 9. Constantly bumped by crew and passengers in an aisle seat. I deliberately only booked A380s on a Bangkok to LHR return run but they changed the plane on one leg. To me seats are far more important than food.

FYI Qatar and Finnair has a code share, which means that you book thru Qatar, but another airline will serve you. This information is available on there website, when you book. I know that on this flight, and all the other one Finnair operates for qatar, the first 3 rows is Premium economy as you saw. Book them and you will premium service for the same as economy. The reason why I wasn’t informed could be that they just started the codeshare.
We booked in May 2022 before the agreement 😉 Had we known that the route was operated by Finnair then we would have chosen a different airline. We avoid Finnair Long-haul as we are very aware of the limited service they offer.
Maxi, Where did all this love towards qatar airways come from? From your previous reports I understood you were not a fan at all of the airline.
Also, I just booked a QR flight recently and it was very clear that the flight is operated by Finnair and I did upgrade class because I do want comfort so that’s always an option too …
I do agree the coffee service you got lacked an accompanying sweet which should be served always with coffee (Come on Finnair) but the snack sandwich that you called Pathetic looked rather lovely to me 😅Anyways nice to watch your reports always , absolutely love Maro and your parents 😊
Hi there Yasmin, thanks for watching. You are absolutely correct, we were never big fans of Qatar Airways. Our love for them came in April 2022 when we flew with them between Copenhagen and Kuala Lumpur and had a super service (watch the videos from then when we tell how impressed we were ;-) ). Our flights with Qatar Airways were booked in May 2022 where this agreement between Finnair and Qatar Airways was not there. Had we known that Finnair would operate this flight then we would not have taken this route (we are aware that Finnair does not provide the onboard service that we get on Asian Airlines on these same Long-haul routes therefore we avoid them as is the case with SAS - our own home airline - we avoid them for the same reason). Glad that the bun looks lovely to you ;-) we all have our own opinions and expectations - we were not impressed (we have had better with other airlines). The same thing happened to us when we had booked a Qantas flight to KL and at the airport found it had been switched out for Malaysian Airlines. And to make matters worse they changed our seats so we weren’t able to sit together. I always look forward to the food too and would happily pay more for a better quality meal as it definitely improves the experience. Not long now before your next trip away 😃

We will gladly pay a little bit extra for better Economy Class Service (something between Economy and Premium). Passengers who wish to fly budget have the option of choosing Low Cost carriers. @ Danielle , as far as I’m aware, Qantas has never flown to KL from Australia in the last 11 years that I have been frequent flyer. As Malaysian Airlines are one world partner, this allows Qantas to sell you the flight under QF flight number & booking number, but it will always say the flight is operated by Malaysian Airlines. My mother recently flew to Europe with Qantas to Singapore, then onwards with Finnair to her final destination, and tell the flights were booked under a Finnair ( AY) booking/ flight number.
@@paulsz6194 Hi Paul, you’re right with regards to the destination. It was actually a flight from Melbourne to Singapore where we then caught a flight from there to KL. We were told our QF35 flight had been cancelled and it would now be a flight with Malaysian Airlines.
Awwww man, you both got a raw deal there :(. I'd be disappointed too. You pay for a certain service/provider, it should be of equal exchange if they need to change you. I got last summer e-mail from Qatar Airways that our QSuite flight was changed to a330-300 just couple of weeks before our departure. Also I was waiting to see Finnair’s onflight meal menu you can purchase. They usually have lovely selection there. Finnair celebrate its 100th anniversary this year. Dear Sari nice hearing from you and as always thanks for watching our video. In answer to your question about the change:
We recieved the news about the change a couple of weeks before the flight. As far as we remember there were no options offered. It is important to also note that at this stage of a booking (a few weeks up to departure), even if you were to cancel the flight it would be impossible to find another carrier offering seats at the price you originally paid for Economy Class (the class we fly) - otherwise we would have done that.
An onboard menu for purchase is not an option or of interest to us (we are on a budget like most other Economy Class travellers when flying)... we fly with carriers who offer an onboard service (mainly the fantastic Asian carriers with their complimentary drinks and snacks service and relatively good meal service). Finnair or SAS (our two Scandinavian carriers) cannot match the complimentary onboard services of the Asian airlines we normally fly with, which is why we obviously choose the airline that offers us most for our money.
We would both love to fly with our national carries but when it comes down to the price it is not about being patriotic (unfortunately)... we are buying a product and like most people we want the best product we can get for our money.
In our opinion (and from what we are used to getting from Asian carriers) the Finnair product was not good enough compared to the product we thought we had purchased. The product we experienced would not make us "Returning Customers" on their Long-haul routes. On the other hand on the Asian carriers we always happily return to fly with the same airlines again and again because of the onboard services (with there level of service we are pretty sure that they will also be celebrating 100 years in the air too ;-) ).
We are proud of the airline that delivers the best product for the price we have paid!

Positives were the a330 is gray for couples etc and I thought the inside decor was beautiful and clean and again staff lovely . Food looked atrocious and terrible service as in products available . You paid for a service you never got and at one point your face looked angry not just disappointed. Have you thought of sending an email as maybe you might receive some gift or money back just a thought . Enjoyed this very much and onto the next one . Have a nice weekend
I love you Guys ! Such a shame Qatar switched carrier although Finnair look ok, I recently flew Qatar to Thailand via Doha the London to Doha was the A350 and beautiful but from Doha to Thailand was in a really old A330 the service was good but the plane had seen much better days.

I would be disappointed as well! One good aspect is that you got their refurbished new a330s, going from Qatar to Finnair’s old cabin would’ve been an even worse experience

Going with finnair in July. Luckily only to Doha and then Qatar to Bali. Hopefully this wont be changed. At least we got extra legroom for free on the flight to doha

It was not fair at all or right. You paid for one thing and got the inferior product. BTW there seems a trend to these boxed meals unfortunately. Singapore are starting them now too. Cheaping out.

Sorry I didn't really watch your video before making this comment but do you know that if your ticket is issued by Qatar, for the Finnair operated flights, during online check-in if you are lucky, you should be able to select the seats in rows 21-23 for FREE and these are premium economy seats with not only better seats but also better food! I have been on the Finnair operated flights between Stockholm - Doha and Copenhagen - Doha several times and found this "loophole" :)
You should try Emirates, they don’t just give you another airline because they are out of planes 😅 (Qatar airways is kinda out of planes)

I'd take the A330/340 over the 787 any day of the week (unless of course I get to fly upfront) for the sole reason that the 2-4-2 configuration is vastly superior to that of the awful 3-3-3 configuration that seems to be prevailing these days.
Was this a code share flight operated by Finnair on behalf of Qatar as well as other Oneworld partners? Regardless, it's a shame to book on Qatar and not get the travel experience you paid for and was expecting.

Same for us. Book with Qatar airways. Copenhagen to Kuala lumpur. 3 of 4 plane is not operated by Qatar airways. 1 finnair and 2 Malaysian airline..=/
In our case we booked long in advance before this codeshare agreement was in place so we had know idea that we would not be flying with Qatar Airways who we intentionally booked because of the good experience we had had with them on the same route in April 2022. Thank you for your heads up on Finnair. The food for me looked very plain and I just couldn't stomach eating boxed and served with wooden cutlery. A little overboard with this environmental or cost cut push. A thumb downs from me on your carrier,; I will have them earmarked not to travel with them.
So understandable to be annoyed with the change to fly with Finnair when you paid good money for flying Qatar airways and their level of service.
The meals you got served on this particular flight were looking unsavoury, especially the quinoa salad. And the second serving was so strange with the uneven sized breads.
Hopefully this didn't took away the holiday spirit.
if it was me, i would be mad at Qatar airways, they"re the ones who didnt show up... and what did qatar airways did to compensate u? nothing.... they should of upgraded u to economy premium or at very least give u a small credit. Qatar airways tickets logically should be more expensive if they offer so much more. So a compensation is merited.

I can understand how bad you feel especially when having your parents coming along. Do hope the 4 of you enjoy the rest of your journey.
I think you had every right to be annoyed at the change. Did you ever get a reason for it? Also, I've never been on a mid-long haul flight where I haven't been given a choice for my meal. That's quite disappointing. Very much looking forward to your MH flight report. I haven't flown with them in over 10 years, and they were great flights back then, so I am curious to see what kind of product they offer now. Have a great weekend. :)
So agree with you. I made the mistake of choosing them for a 13 hour long flight from Helsinki to Singapore. Same food as you, which left me hungry, besides the fact that I didn’t really like it. On this route, crews are outsourced so they didn’t care and were cold/distant. The only good thing was the price which was undeniably lower than the competitors

Hey Maxi and Maro.This report is almost identical to my experience with Finnair except my flight time was 12.5 hours with a lower level of service.On my flight there was no snacks or drinks in the rear galley or any galley like on other major airlines.We also only had 1 meal which was at best mediocre(can't remember what it was it was that amazing) and the snack before landing was just garbage,a crap egg and ham sandwhich that looked like it was made pre-covid.The return flight I didn't even bother with,I booked a 1 way flight with Emirates and had a fantastic 2 flights.Finnair is NOT a company I will fly with again.Just the wooden cutlery is enough to put me off nevermind the awful food and lack of in flight service.Sorry Maro your national airline is a bit rubbish but your trip reports are awesome

We honestly cannot see how airlines taking this approach expect to have returning customers when there are plenty of other options out there. We were generally positive about our experience onboard and would consider becoming returning customers if the Meal Service etc. was inline with the offerings on eg. Asian airlines. I also flew CPH-DOH on Finnair in January 23 (now April 23) and still haven’t gotten my points for this sector - points for the rest of my sectors with QR were at my account almost before the flights were over😂
QR is in generel very inconsistent as for aircraft types used, and for all their services actually except in the skies. QR flight attendants are among the best in the world!

QR to AY is quite a downgrade. I agree Finnair is not to be recommended for long-haul. Woeful food & drink service options. Definitely on my "avoid" list. But not much you can do when another carrier forces you onto it! Hope the rest of your trip went well.
It's really ridiculous the way airline companies are treating passengers these days. I was in the same boat as you both. I booked a flight for May and paid to get priority boarding and paid to pre book my seats at a total cost of £49. As soon as my confirmation came through it was only then they told me I would be flying with a different airline. I went on to read the new airline reviews and found out that they don't honor priority boarding or pre booked seating. I think it's a disgrace how they are treating people these days.
I also booked with qatar but got this finair from cph to doha… looking at you video… its look like it wont be a fun 😂
The aircraft interior is really nice and the crew too, however they need to match the service of Qatar if they are going to fly their route ;-)
This service wasn't very good. You should have had some recourse to claim back some of the ticket price back. The food looks awful, not appetising at all, that was some raw deal. Not sure I'll want to fly Finnair. Thank you for your video.

I would have complained with regards to the food and drink service and it looks dreadful. You certainly got ripped off and you received not what you paid for. Did you complain to Qatar Airways also? I also don’t consider wooden cutlery sustainable as metal. I will totally avoid Finnair, thanks for the heads up.
I’m so sorry you had such a disappointing flight. As you say when you pay good money for a certain airline and then it’s suddenly changed you should at least be getting the same level of food and drinks service. I normally like vegetarian food but that looked disgusting and to not get a choice is appalling. My husband wouldn’t have eaten either of those dishes so he would have been very hungry. Strongly worded email to QA I think. I’m sure Malaysia airlines were much better and I’m looking forward to watching the next instalment.
I believe I will avoid Finnair economy class flights. The food provided did not look appetizing.

Finnairs economy på longhaul är verkligen inte bra, till och med sämre än SAS och det säger inte lite
