  • What is the common ground of sampradayas, and what distinguishes them? How can Vaishnavism be presented in the West without losing its essence, and does appearance create barriers to reaching people? Hridayananda Das Goswami is someone who prioritizes service and strives to share this universal teaching to help humanity grow. At the end, we will ask the question: Should Vaishnavism be separated from Indian culture in order to reach as many hearts as possible?
These and other topics are discussed in Episode 18 of the Thinking Bhakti Podcast.

Really wonderful episode with lots of insights from Gita. I was looking forward to this conversation. It feels relaxed and grounded with a sense of humour and lots of experiences sharing.
    “The wise sees everyone equally.
You have to be equal to everyone in order to achieve the highest Bhakti.” Krishna from Gita.
I feel like I / we still have so much to learn from Gita and most of all to practice it.
You just look at some social media comments and there are so often rude without any respect towards others. We all don’t need to agree on everything but the way we comment on something we don’t agree with says a lot about who we are..

Great talk thank you. I have some points. Hridayananda Maharaj said many times "if you want to save the planet", but i thought that Krishna consciousness was about saving our soul and going back to GodHead. The preaching always goes along the lines of this place is a prison planet and happiness here is Jada "dead". secondly on the topic of Indian dress, I have also got the impression that in the spiritual world we are eternally in Doti, Sari, Gopi dress. so basically what i'm saying is devotees are dressing for the eternal abode, Devotees are practicing for their eternal service in the spiritual world, it has nothing to do with this material existence. I always get the impression the Indian Culture is seen as not a culture but comes from Sanatan dharma, the purpose of all beings and that includes the dress. Jaya Guru Dev, Swami Revatikanta I would like your perspective on my points. Hari Om tat Sat

Through every sampraday (saivya, sakta, vaishnav, ganpatya etc) thousands of saints in india realised god(bhagawat sakshatkar) which is ultimate purpose.so every sampradaya is good and established by same god so that people with different nature can worship him through different sampradaya according to nature
    Rest is just brain exercise

Quotes from our acaryas regarding the topic:
"In big scale you cannot make all of them as brāhmaṇas or sannyāsīs.
No. That is not possible. This is a small scale. How many percentage
of people of the world we are controlling? Very insignificant. But if
you want to make the whole human society perfect, then this Kṛṣṇa
consciousness movement should be introduced according to Kṛṣṇa’s
instruction, if you want to do it in a large scale for the benefit of the
    whole human society.
"Now we are picking up some of them, best. That is another thing. But
Caitanya Mahāprabhu said para-upakāra. Why a certain section should
be picked up? The whole mass of people will get the benefit of it. Then
it is required, systematic. Sve sve karmaṇy abhirataḥ saṁsiddhiṁ labhate
naraḥ. Para-upakāra means mass benefit, not there is certain section.
Then we have to introduce this varṇāśrama-dharma. It must be done
perfectly, and it is possible and people will be happy."
Srila Prabhupada - Room Conversation, Māyāpur, February 14, 1977
"There is no question of Eastern, Western. Now people are intermingling.
Now I think that we shall have institution, especially in America, to train
    these first-class (brahmana), second-class (kshatriya), third-class (vaisya),
and the balance fourth class (sudra).
Srila Prabhupada - Conversation with clergymen, Detroit, June 15, 1976
Śrīla Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura: "Varṇāśrama and Vaidhi-bhakti:"
    TEXT
    sādhana-kāle ye paryanta
    hṛdaya kāma āche
    se paryanta varṇāśramādi
    dharmera apekṣā thāke
    TRANSLATION
At the time of practicing sādhana-bhakti, so long as there is material
desire within the heart, one should remain within the confines of the
    varṇāśrama system.
    PURPORT
The relationship between the aforementioned varṇāśrama-dharma and
vaidhi-bhakti ought to be examined. The question is, is the varṇāśrama
institution negated, or should it be abandoned when one takes to the
process of bhakti, or should the rules and regulations of varṇāśrama be
followed in order to properly cultivate vaidhi-bhakti?
As we have said, the main reason for the cultivation of varṇāśrama is
that maintaining the body in good health, improving the faculty of the
mind, promoting social well-being, and learning the science of the Self
are all conducive to the practice of pure devotional service.
Who can deny the necessity of the varṇāśrama institution as long
as the living being is bound up in the human body?
If it is abandoned, and the above-mentioned four principles are lacking, the jīva will go
astray and no good whatsoever will accrue to him. One should, therefore,
strictly adhere to the rules governing varṇāśrama for the sake of the
mind, society, and one’s advancement in Kṛṣṇa consciousness.
But the observance of varṇāśrama-dharma is not the sole business of
the jīva. Therefore, with the assistance of varṇāśrama-dharma, one must
    cultivate pure devotional service.
The purpose of the varṇāśrama institution is to facilitate the practice of devotional service.
The question may arise that since the practice of varṇāśrama is a
dilatory affair, what will one’s duty be if a conflict arises with one’s devotional
practice? The answer is that if one does not maintain and nourish
the healthy condition of the body, mind, society, and the pursuit of
self-realization, how will it be possible to cultivate the higher endeavor,
devotional service? If, abandoning the varṇāśrama institution, one acts
independently, then the demands of the body and mind will cause one
to become intoxicated with material desire and no sign of devotion will
manifest itself. (First vṛṣṭi, sixth dhāra)
The book "Speaking About Varnasrama" offers great insight on these topics.
Please search out that volume. In service ....

'Everyone know that I'm a Mr No Dhoti...' ' My Sanskrit pronouns '. Saa, Saha! And he laughs at his own jokes.
He is very knowledgeable. This interview does however illustrate the difference between when the Satguru is physically present and when He has left His body. We simply obey the living Master on everything - clothes, philosophy. When the humans are in charge the mental debates start. Like looking at religious clothes as a culture of a 'third world country'

    • @Mayadanava

@Mayadanava Few bhaktas follow instructions including on clothes because of Shastra. Bhaktas follow Masters (or taste a Master's Ras) who guide them on everything including clothes and shastra to study. I and Swami Revati have the fortune of having a living master @Paramahamsa Vishwananda. He tells us what to do, we obey and grow spiritually. Saris provide protection and especially as mataji temple pujaris, we must wear them.
When our Master lives His body, these human mind debates will arise. We will cross that bridge when we get there...

We are to be accepted as authority according to uniform, (the breakdown of the dress analogy discussion ). But by the way the KW leader dresses, he must be an authoritative couch potato.

    • @Mayadanava
      @Mayadanava 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

What about a huge non initiated core is not seeking god realisation? Krsna gives many levels, the best is the Isopanishad verse 1. Krsna says this implicitly in the Gita, very few people are actually interested and of those that are most are not actually seeking liberation. But living in the mode of goodness and offering back is enough to make a healthy society that is not making Karmic debt.
As for the intellectuals all societies follow intellectuals, that is Varna-Ashram, that is Shabda Pramana, and it is implicit again in the verse: "What ever actions a great man performs common men follow"
Can you name a single religious movement that succeeded without the leaders and intellectuals of a society?

I think that sometimes it’s important to look at the bigger picture. Not everyone is going to become God realized in this lifetime. In India the vast majority of people who identify as Vaishnavas have not taken initiation in any sampradaya. We have to nourish the core of serious and dedicated practitioners while recognizing that most of the people of any large religious faith will be on the periphery.

How is this information supposed to help our practice. Are we ascending into a 5G Earth as well? I'm not being condescending. How far do you go..

@@BinduMadhavaDasLoveAll This is one person who confuses a flat map with reality. And a person who can't function in regular society so has run away to live in a fantasy. This is exactly what happens when you only attract freaks and not intellectuals. It's an unfortunate side effect of only preaching to that class of humans.

This episode is regrettably titled. Only profound racism and appropriation could entertain the idea of separating Vaishnavism from Hindu Dharma. Instead of bringing Vaishnavism to the west, better to bring western people to Hinduism

How can you even use the word Hindu when that name was given by the oppressors of India and Indians?

The Himalayan mountain range was filmed from a passenger plane flying over Dubai, that's over 2,000 miles of no curvature. The Nikon p1000 is a scientific instrument that proves Beyond any shadow of a doubt that the curvature of the earth cannot be measured because the curvature of the earth simply does not exist. The curvature calculation of 8in per mile Squared is Bogas. You simply cannot take all the Flat places known on earth and create a circumference of 24,901 miles. The math is simple.

My only question is if the earth is flat Why don't you ever invite a flat earther to a pizza party? Because they'll insist on cutting the pizza into a flat shape to match their beliefs!, 🍕

      @Mayadanava 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

You are not high enough in a plane to see the curvature of the earth... and yes math is simple, that is why you can show using trig, mountains and shadows the curvature of the earth. But not naked eye observations.

Lord Krishna said, "My Dear Arjuna, Millions of years ago I Instructed this Imperishable Science of Yoga to the Sun god Vivashwan, "
    Science; Observable, Testable and Repeatable.
The "Horizon" is indeed "Horizontal" and no matter how high the altitude it stays at "Eye-Level". The "Constellations" are "Constant" and the Stars in Heaven are Firm in their Position and Firm in their Brightness. God Created the Firmament to separate the waters from Above (were MahaVishnu naps)from the waters below (The Great Garbhodaka Ocean). Water Aways Finds It's Level, Sea Level. The Whole of this little 4 headed Brahma Universe has an Up and It has a Down. A Dwarf named Vamana poked a hole in God's Firmament with His big toe and the waters from Above came pouring in and Down.

Tell this rascal that this so called guru is an offender who considers Srila Prabhupada who is a bonafide acharya of the Brahma Madhva Gaudiya Sampradaya, to be an ordinary person. He has offended Srila Prabhupada in so many ways and still continues to do so. Such a rascal is immediately disconnected from the parampara.
Cite the following verse for this fool:
      arcye viṣṇau śilā-dhīr guruṣu nara-matir vaiṣṇave jāti-buddhir
      viṣṇor vā vaiṣṇavānāṁ kali-mala-mathane pāda-tīrthe 'mbu-buddhiḥ
      śrī-viṣṇor nāmni mantre sakala-kaluṣa-he śabda-sāmānya-buddhir
viṣṇau sarveśvareśe tad-itara-sama-dhīr yasya vā nārakī saḥ
      Translation:
"One who thinks the Deity in the temple to be made of wood or stone, who thinks of the spiritual master in the disciplic succession as an ordinary man, who thinks the Vaiṣṇava in the Acyuta-gotra to belong to a certain caste or creed or who thinks of caraṇāmṛta or Ganges water as ordinary water is taken to be a resident of hell."
      (Padma Purana)

What’s useless commentary, first Hridayananda Maharaj is a thinker he can talk for hours without stop, Swami Revati actually did a really great job hold and control the flow, besides you coming here to criticise and finding fault, you could just appreciate and try to learn something for yo spiritual grow.🎉
