I also went to BU, and during my sophomore year (also in 2015) me and my friends came up with the same exact idea, but wanted to call it “Dorm Knock” or something like that (Ratemydorm is actually more clever haha) , but ended up not doing anything with it. On one hand kinda stings that someone else ended up doing it and it turned out to actually be a great idea, on the other hand very happy with your success with it. Damn what a coincidence, says a lot about the dorm system at BU🤣

i found this story quite relatable. around the same time that you were building ratemydorm.com, i was building wavechat.tech (web app for freshmen to meet each other) and had a lot of motivation to work on it everyday during quarantine. at its peak, we had over a thousand users, some campus reps, and we were talking to investors, so i really wanted it to blow up. however, i eventually lost that "fire" just like you haha. cool story jed, really enjoyed it.

I second the comment about personal projects for those without work experience. I just graduated with no internship experience but since I invested a lot of time in my personal projects, it gave me a lot to talk about with interviewers when I was job hunting. I was able to land a job at a faang. So to those worrying about their lack of work experience, there is hope!

I landed my first software engineer role with American express after a bootcamp because of my projects. I built my own version of shopify so I could easily link it to my business website and update the products and not have to pay those monthly fees.
