@@painexotic3757 I agree in a big picture way. The employer demonstrated having more respect for keeping their books in order than the value of a good employee. It's not a stupid move, if the bottom line outweighs keeping hard workers who pay attention.

What everyone missed was the deadline he gave himself. He manifested that date by writing it down. Everything else went unscripted. Dont dream, write down what you want, when you want it and never look at that note again. If you read this, tomorrow will bring success.

I just picked a date that I wanted to have the goal done by, then put it on a piece of paper and hung it up by my desk where I saw it every single day! Sorry about that, Chris. I'm sure it's a lot rougher given that situation. Java especially, isn't beginner friendly either, so that's it's own thing. When you do learn Ruby or any other language just remember this when you start out and know nothing about coding: As you learn to code you will see and then design very simple codes that are super easy to understand. Now as you learn other stuff and add to that simple code you will see how that simplistic code builds up over time to look very hard indeed. What keeps it simple is when you have line numbers turned on

This is encouraging... I just started learning Java programming with the hope of getting a better job. It can be quite daunting having a full time job and going to school. But I’m pushing myself knowing that at the end, it will be worth it. I am also from Nigeria, let’s talk more if that’s okay with you.
Hi Chidi, good to see you learning on your own! I personally don't recommend Java to beginners, as it's really hard to learn as your first language. Even me that's been an engineer for years, I don't like doing Java, so I can't imagine a beginner trying to learn it. I've seen Java stop too many people in their coding journey because of how hard it is. I'd recommend you start with web development fundamentals: HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. After that, Python. But, I wouldn't bother doing Java at all. I am 50 years old with 25 years of SD experience, was talking to an Uber driver about how I am going to be retiring in Thailand shortly. I was being dropped off at my ocean front condo in Florida by her. She said nothing, but I could see how she looked at me. I told her the truth, "You know, I have no college degree, I am entirely self taught, and I did it before the internet. But its much easier now" I truly wanted to help that girl, inspire her. Now I have a resource to point future people I meet.
Well you’ve helped to inspire me a little. Been an Uber driver and running a business for almost 4 years (at this point unsuccessfully). Blessings my brother. I am also a self taught software engineer. I only picked up a book to get started. I can honestly relate when you were describing your learning journey. I too did those coding marathons, at times even over 12 hours because the time was there for me and I was very much interested. This was because I quit a job I lost interest in. 3 months later I secured my first role as a junior, very low salary to begin with but I wanted it (Knowledge and experience). This is where I gained much of the knowledge and experience I hold to date. I moved on from that employer. Where I’m at now I can do so much more and specialise in different technologies. The bigger picture is for me to be in a position to roll out solutions for businesses and organisations as well as giving back and most importantly solving problems. I’m learning Python first through Codecademy and it’s been hard but I wanted a challenge. Going to subscribe to your channel to learn more about your experience and any tips you may have.
Hey Simone! That's great you've started teaching yourself! Are you learning Python because you're interested in Data Science? Because if not, and you're learning Python to be a developer/software engineer, then you should start by learning web development fundamentals first, in case you haven't already, and that's HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. That's because when building websites with Python, you need to know the basics of building websites before you even start learning Python. Otherwise, you'll have to come back to learn web development fundamentals anyways when it comes to building Python projects, so it's better to start at the beginning then in the middle, and have to go back. If you're doing data science though, then disregard that lol Hopefully that helps! Thanks again for tuning in and subscribing to my channel! I'm a Nigerian, and I'm teaching myself Java, it's kinda of difficult and I'm also a CS student in college, but the educational system isn't built to help us learn programming, so almost all we do is self taught. Sometimes I give up, sometimes I start all over. I wish I could get to that level of being good and landing a job.
Thank you for this.
Sorry about that, Chris. I'm sure it's a lot rougher given that situation. Java especially, isn't beginner friendly either, so that's it's own thing. I usually recommend students start with an easier programming language to learn like JavaScript or Python, before moving to more complex languages to learn like Java and C++, etc. I don't know if you have time for that, but if so, maybe it might help. Regardless, wishing you the best on your coding journey. You got this.

When you do learn Ruby or any other language just remember this when you start out and know nothing about coding:
As you learn to code you will see and then design very simple codes that are super easy to understand.

Thank you, Kim!
Thanks for sharing. The major thing I learned from this is how important it is to be open and share. It's easy to keep things to yourself and be comfortable, but by being proactive and open, you were able to bring multiple opportunities to you.
Yeesss! I'm glad you picked up on that lesson, that's one of the most important things! People can't find or help you if they don't know what you're doing and what you need help with. And, it's important to start doing for others while you don't immediately need anything too.
Great takeaway!

Inspirational!! I’m an electrical engineer who is currently working in the power field. I am looking to make a change into the world of software, and this video has motivated me to make that push.
Glad you're inspired, Nad! You can do it and I can definitely help you!

Very pleased to hear about your journey, once again Blessings.
Broooo, that's awesome! I'm really glad this worked out well for you too! Thanks for sharing your testimony and I hope it inspires others that see it.

Awesome story. Started something similar myself this past week. Starting with a python course on Udemy!

I know that it’s almost a year later but thank you so much for making this video. I also have a nutrition background but I have recently turned to learning how to code.
If you're doing data science though, then disregard that lol
Hopefully that helps!
