No way that is so awesome!! I am in Branson as well! I am so glad you are liking the videos. I am currently working on new ones to update the channel and I am sure you will enjoy those as well :)
Thank you so much for this Josh. I love how you explain things in your videos and I just started playing with your suggestions in this video and my stuff is sounding great. I'm new to GarageBand and, wow, you've really helped improve my work. Thanks for your plugins too. Been using those for the past few weeks.
love the full screen with you in the corner describing the action. No overkill jumping around trying to be trendy/smart. Easy to follow and very informative videos. To the point without the bull. Thank you so much mate.🎤🎧👍
Nice. Subscribed and presets getting grabbed post haste. I was unsure right till the end then after you eq'd the reverb channel and re-played I was like "Ha haaa!!" very simple which is almost always the best way especially with lovely strong clean vocal tracks like this one evidently is. So many thanks from a 50+ dude who remembers when you could actually pick up and hold the music you just made in the studio, when the possibility of actually leaving your new masterpiece recording on the bus on the way home was very real and proper back up copies were the price of a very expensive reel of 8 track tape or an maybe ADAT a little later on. Just the thought of infinite available tracks would have been a dream come true and having a track that you could use up just to record some reverb would have been a crazy persons nonsense! peace, love, and keep making music, its just another word for Magic ya know 😉
Love it man! So gad you found that useful. I wish I would have been around when all music was recorded to tape. Digital is awesome and it allows so many people to record and mix, but nothing will ever compare to that tape sound and overall experience. ❤
Oh my goodness. I'm stupid new to garageband and you answered so many questions and made everything sound simple and the video sounds great. I just downloaded your presets and hoping to do some tests soon. Thank you for this!
YESSSS!!! I love this comment. I am so glad you are finding things easier to understand! If you have any questions at all you can send me an email at Josh@CellarDoorSound.co
I just found you. Awesome info. I tried your delay and reverb suggestions on my vocals and WOW! So good. I requested you free plug-in package too. Can’t wait to get that. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
Oh this is so helpful for me. Audio technique isn't really my strength. I can photograph, take videos, sing, play musical instruments but my brain rejects everything about audio technique (except volume up and down hihi). I am glad you explained lots in this video. Now I can be a recording artist haha! Just kidding! But again, thanks a lot for sharing your knowledge!
Hi - Loved the video and especially the explanations of dry, wet, reverb time etc etc. I was wondering if in the future you could do a similar video explaining how to use the EQ graphic in Garageband? Thanks for this video in the meantime.
Thank you so much! I am glad you found this helpful! I have a video that will be uploaded soon as part of an entire mix series. It will go over the graphic and how to use this effectively for vocals. You can also grab my Ultimate Vocal Preset Bundle which comes with a free training video all about vocal EQ. Cheers!
Awesome I am so glad you found it helpful! Yes the presets are still free. Everyone loved them so much that I decided to never charge for them. You can grab them by clicking the link in the video description.
This is a great tutorial, I will definitely try it out! Do you have any information/videos on the stereo spread function? I’ve used it a couple of times and I like the way it sounds but I don’t understand it at all
Hey great stuff! Thank you. May i ask how you can use these effects on live singing though? I mean not just having great vocals after recording (post prod) but also while you are recording or live streaming? Thank you very much.
Unfortunately this wouldn't work in a live situation. You would have to use the built in reverb in GarageBand if you are using that as your main audio interface for streaming
Awesome I am so glad! And yes I have presets included in my Ultimate Vocal Preset Bundle just for choir! Check it out at www.cellardoorsound.co/freepresets
My MacBook Pro "Audio music Apps" folder does not include "Distortion II". Should I create it (and then copy the files), or is this an indication of a problem?
You can either create it with the exact upper and lowercase, or you can go to that plugin, create a random preset, and your computer will make the folder for you
Why do ou put the Predelay Reverb on a new Track when you can put it as THE Master Reverb ? You can throw the crappy Master Reverb out and this one in!? Do I understand it right that you can use the Master Reverb and Echo with the sliders as a BUS Effect in GarageBand?
Yes you can do what you are suggesting and it would work totally fine. I like to have a channel that is my reverb that way automation is easy and I can access it without clicking through different things to get to it. Plus if you do it through this workflow, you can craft many more effects channels. For example: Drums room, snare verb, piano verb, guitar delay, guitar verb, vocal delay, vocal verb, synth fx, etc. All this really does is open up the possibilities. Instead of being stuck with only a few fx buses that is stock with GarageBand.
This was extremely helpful! Thank you so much :) I just subscribed and signed up on your website. Are the presets still available to gain access to? I know it said it's free for a limited time only.
Awesome I am glad you found this helpful! Yes, the presets are still available. You should have received an email with a link to a download and video training. Did you get that?
I used this along with your presets and I can’t believe how much better my vocals sound, so thanks a lot!! Do you have any EQ advice for recording acoustic guitars with an SM57?
Hey Josh, thanks for the awesome video. I signed up for your bundle as well. I have a question. You tweaked the reverb on the initial vocal track only to then turn it off. I'm confused by this.
Hey thanks for downloading the presets! I got the reverb sound on the first vocal track to make sure I liked it. Then I duplicated the track and used that duplicate track as my reverb track by setting the reverb to 100% and the dry to 0%. This allows me to have full control of my dry vocal signal and my completely wet reverb signal. Does that makes sense?
The mic definitely makes a big difference! We used a slate microphone with no modeling on this vocal and it sounded pretty good. The EQ and compression really brought it to that next level and made it sound clean and round. And then of course the reverb is the icing on the cake. Starting with a good microphone always helps because it makes the following mixing steps much easier. Thanks for the comment!

Wow! This reverb track trick blows my mind! You are amazing!
Hey so glad this worked for you!! It really does expand the capabilities of GarageBand

Thanks so much! I really try to keep it simple. We are all here for the music. That should be the focus in my opinion

Great video and sound! Question, how do I reverse polarity for left and right pans in GarageBand?
I don't have a Distortion 2 folder on my Mac. I only have a folder that says Distortion. Can I add the files to this folder???

I used this along with your presets and I can’t believe how much better my vocals sound, so thanks a lot!! Do you have any EQ advice for recording acoustic guitars with an SM57?
My biggest piece of advice is to play with mic positions before you record. I am releasing a video tomorrow where I talk a bit about mic positions
Hey Josh, thanks for the awesome video. I signed up for your bundle as well. I have a question. You tweaked the reverb on the initial vocal track only to then turn it off. I'm confused by this.
