  • Hill of crosses is one of the most famous tourist sights of Lithuania and also one of the biggest repositories of Lithuanian crosses which are part of the UNESCO world heritage. It is a hill that has hundreds of thousands crosses erected on it by pilgrims and political parties, by locals and by foreigners, by corporations and parishes. It is a Lithuanian tradition now but most of the hill's history has been less glorious, as it was a target of the Russian and Soviet occupational regimes and erecting crosses here was a defiance. We raise our drone over this famous Hill of Crosses and also tell its story in the usual Drone Tour way.
Lithuania Drone Tours are unique virtual tours of Lithuania, where spectacular drone footage of Lithuania’s prettiest sites and sights is accompanied by English comments explaining the background and stories of these famous Lithuanian travel destinations.
Lithuanian Drone Tours footage is by Augustinas Žemaitis, owner of the www.truelithuania.com website about Lithuania.

Yes, Kryziu Kalnas is a unique place indeed. In 2017 during my motorcycle travel to Lithuania (I'm from Belgium), I brought my little wooden cross from home and gave it a nice place along the path. In 2019 I passed there again, visited the site and rightaway found my cross back, still in its place, only turned a little grey. In the late 1970's in Belgium this was the cross hanging in my studying room. Every single cross there tells its own story of provenience and tradition, belief and hope.

Indeed, Kryžių kalnas is one of the most special places in the Baltics!

Any drone rules or permission required to fly drone here?

    • @TrueLithuania

Just the general rules for Lithuania. In Lithuania, it is legal to fly a drone over all the tourists sights, unless these sights are too close to an airport or certain military and government institutions (Hill of Crosses is far away from those).

A monument to a middle Eastern religion. Not real Lithuanian.

Wherever has Christianity originated, some particular artforms and practices related to it are of Lithuanian origins. Lithuanian crosses are UNESCO-recognized world heritage. Many of them include pre-Christian details as well, which is unique to Lithuanian crosses (e.g. crosses that merge Christian cross with a Pagan sun symbol). In many countries, Christian art did not simply supplant the local traditions; rather, it provided them new topics which were nevertheless envisioned using the local forms and marerials. This happened in Lithuania too. If you are interested more in Lithuanian pre-Christian faith, however, this is the Lithuanian Drone Tour of a nearby Naisiai village that serves as a museum of Baltic Gods (and is somewhat of an antithesis to the Hill of Crosses, despite both being sites of Lithuanian patriotism): th-cam.com/video/o_pePedE4bI/w-d-xo.html
