So while "real girls" may have to spend, $20 bucks a month on make up (quality doesn't show on camera, so they can buy cheap shit), a vtuber would need to drop 1~2K for a decent model, since the quality of a v-tuber model matters way more than the quality of makeup. So, over time, that "one time payment" of 1~2K ends up being worth way more than that $250 a year or less on make up. And this isn't including upgrades or changes to the model (like outfits, skins, etc), as avatar changes matter more to vtubers than outfits to "real streamers".

I mean, I would say most people who watch Gura, Chibi, or similar are there for that gremlin energy. You don't even have to 'watch' it, just tune in like listening to radio while you do other stuff. Unless that viewer is one of those delusional degens, people wouldn't immediately jump to "wow, I can see them as an actual child." Like there is a clear barrier between the character model and reality that most functional human beings can separate. Plus, Gura having that landslide victory in subs count proved that it work, and I doubt that nearly 4 mil people are pure degen. Though obviously, some of them are.

I think it's more weird to bring age into this kind of thing to begin with. Age is a IRL factor only for this kinda crap. For legal reasons, but no one really cares for a fictional character. Entire races look like children in real life compared to bigger ones and they could be triple their age. The problem is bringing sexuality into it to begin with. Sexuality isn't always injected into things just because it's anime. Some people like things for the cuteness alone.
