    My brother used to raise pigs. We live near a canning factory and he let them dump all their scraps in with the pigs. They just absolutely loved all the veggies. It was also all free feed for my brother. The pigs really grew fast with all that food. Thanks for the video. I always look forward to seeing your content. Your channel is one of my favorites!!

So how much fun is that taking the Mrs. On a date to pick up piggies? I appreciate your kindness to them on their first few days being away from their old home. Y’all take care

    Tip: wherever pigs start to use the "restroom" they will always "go" there. Start them off in your preferred spot Confining them to their future bathroom. After the first week open up the rest of the pen and they will continue doing their " business in that spot (preferably low corner) that drains. Like humans and dogs they do not like mixing business with pleasure.lol Also like dogs once they start that they will always mess all over.

      True about dogs!!! I have had a number of dogs. Every one has gone as far away from the house as possible to do their business, except one. Gracie was a puppy mill dog who lived in a cage. She thinks it normal and acceptable to pee and poop in the house; even right in her bed. She has to be confined to the back porch because I can’t deal with an 85 pound dog peeing and pooping in the house all the time. I spent two years trying to potty train her when I got her at the age of 8 years. She is now 11 years old and I don’t let her in the main parts of the house. In the summer she spends a lot of time outside.

After we got older and had activities outside the family, mom made sure that we had at least one meal a day as a family. You're right about pigs. Food somehow eliminates shyness quickly. Butchering the roosters never bothered me much though; they were really mean. Nothing clears land better than pigs though. We put electric fence around the areas grown up in brush. I just came across this video, I love the piglets. They are so cute. Are they fairly easy to raise? I remember when a Farmer friend of mine got piglets, they were so clean. They would eliminate in the same area and always away from their feed, he also had bedded them down with straw and they would bury themselves to the point only their snouts would stick out. I wonder how much feed they consume? I'm rambling. Lol! Keep up with the great videos! P.S. thanks for explaining the way you moved the pigs, I would not have known that. I would have reached in the crate and tried to cradle them like a cat! Just to drop them, while they were squealing! Lol.

      Thank you Jennifer. I think pigs are very easy to raise as long as you have a good pen. I’m sure there is a formula for how much they will eat to get to harvest weight but I don’t know what it is and it will vary depending on the nutritive value. Right now mine are eating about 10 lbs each per day! But they’re getting big and it’s cooling down so they’re going to eat a lot. Glad you enjoyed the video, thanks again!

      @@farmertylerranch4399 Thanks for the reply, I may ask Joe (farmer friend) what it all takes. He made it look pretty easy, but then again he's been farming his entire life. I have a pen inside the barn, actually if I remember right it was a pig pen at one time. I just may get brave and get a couple piglets when Joe gets his. Take care, and good night to you and your family.

    Is there a boar available close to home or are you gonna have to keep one for yourself. For 10 piglets per sow. Trivia: Do you know why a boar has teats?............... Other than they must have ten teats to be registered I don't have a clue. 👁👁😎. Great video as always 👍👍👍👍

      @farmertylerranch4399  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      If we do end up breeding our own I’ll probably just keep my own boar just to make things easier and ensure bio security. I don’t know why does a boar have teats? I’ve got a lot to learn about them too, I’m thinking the best way is to just jump right in!

    • @keithmartin7831
      @keithmartin7831 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Farmer Tyler Ranch I wasn't joking. A boar must have 10 teats to be registered. That way that trait is passed down. Other than that I haven't a clue. Worked for 2 hog farmer growing up. One was old feller had really good stock. Nice farrowing house then he called it nursery where they were moved after weaned was real nice. The rest of his hog shelters and buildings was literally made from scrap packing crates he brought home when younger and things were crated so the wouldn't get away. The younger guy had state of the art everything. The young guy inherited his place. Now I own a tract and a father and son each bought a track. Bankrupt.

      These are out of a Yorkshire boar and a Spot sow. I’m not too picky on breeds as long as they are well known meat breeds I’m happy with them. I can usually get them to finish in 5-6 months and they hang at 200 so they were probably 250 on the hoof. I think you should go for it! My best advice is house them where mud won’t be a big issue and find a cheap way to feed them. Once these guys are a little bigger I’ll do a video on how to make your own feed and save money! Thanks TL!
