Fantastic to see you on my channel. Yeah, the horizontal mill is a very capable machine tool. Well done on your die filer build, an interesting project.
I’m late to the build and am catching up on part 1. Fabulous to see machining of such chunky bits of steel. Great start to an interesting project. 👏👏👍😀
Thanks. Yes, I usually work with small parts, I'm enjoying machining chunky bits for a change. It's turning out to be a petty robust machine, not a bad thing. All the best for 2024.
I'm watching with interest, about 40 yrs ago I used to do a lot of fine brass filing so I built a home made die filer [no youtube then!] using a lawn mower crankcase as the basis & a large bronze bush to take the one inch diameter spindle, it served me very well, I now have an opus die filer but still go back to the home made one for many jobs, in fact I've just been using it this week making parts for a mates model aeroplane, not used every week but dead useful when you need it..
@@GoCreatehms Thanks for the reply, I always think die filers & shaping machines went out of fashion but for amateur Model engineers [like us!!] they are great they were practically giving shapers away years ago but the price is high now especially Filers [if you can get them] good luck with your build I'll be following it with interest. Graham.
Hi Preso, Thanks. Yes I'm very happy with my diamond tool holder, works great on mild steel and the like, easy and quick to sharpen and gives a good finish. Cheers Nigel
Can you share the plans? Just found you and love the work!!!!! Looking for a Die Filer and I am find I will have to build one. Not many out there. Thanks for sharing you shop time!!!
A few people have ased if there are plans. As I'm making this tool up as I go I've no plans or sketches. I'm thinking is may be a good idea to sketch out the parts as I go as a record. If you drop me an email I'll put you on the list for when the project is finished. You should find my email in my about page or in some of my videos. Thanks for your interest.
Nigel, this is going to be another awesome series. Definitely exciter to see your clever approach. Did you create this design based on material you happened to have on hand, or did the design dictate the material stock required? 👍👍😎👍👍
Hi, as much as possible I'm using materials I have to hand which has an influance on the design. Additionally I'm designing as I go so I've not yet settled how the final thing will look, it's interesting and challenging. Thanks for your interest.
Nice one Nigel, good to see a shot of the lion too,👍👍👍👍🚂🚂🚂🚂

Some really "Heavy metall" operations... nice to see you back in your shop.... ! Looking forward for more!
Stay healthy !
A senior moment? Been having them since my 20's!! Great lesson Nigel, accept mistakes, adapt, carry on, nothing to see here 🧐
I’m envious of your small horizontal mill! I would love one like that. The rigidity of a lathe but with the geometry of a mill. Such a great combo.
Fantastic to see you on my channel. Yeah, the horizontal mill is a very capable machine tool. Well done on your die filer build, an interesting project.
Nice start, looking great.
Cool build; watching this one. We shared this video on our homemade tools forum this week 😎
Awesome! Thanks.

I hope you are keeping well Nigel, thanks for sharing interesting as always. Roger from OZ
Good to see you back.
Gday Nigel, great to you back mate, a small horizontal mill can do a wonderful job, really looking forward to the next instalment, cheers

Thanks for sharing your experiences it's interesting to know this can be a useful tool. And thanks for your interest it's much appreciated.

Graham.
Great to see the Lion project back on the cards again. Your finishing skills on that box section were great.
Perfect start to a Sunday, this looks like it's going to be fun .
Very nice big pieces to start with. That's fun to do.
Yeah, it's nice to machine some chunky parts for a change. Cheers.
Great to see a new vid. from you. Looking forward to the rest of the build.
Lovely work!
Good to see you back on the tube Nigel. Looking forward to seeing this build, looks very rigid up to now😉
Very nice work mister
Man, box section (HSS) is a world of hurt for anything but welding. My favorite is the weld line, rock hard. But you made it through to the other side
Yeah, as I've discovered box section isn't particularly machining freindly.
Thanks for your interest.
That is a healthy chunk of steel for the base!
Well, at least the thing shouldn't bounce around a lot when it runs. LOL
Yeah, it should stay where it' put, plenty weight like old school tools.
Nice job Nigel. I'd love to be able to source such big chunks of steel. Are you enjoying your diamond toolholder? Regards, Preso.

Thanks for the info. Much appreciated.

Thanks for sharing 👍 I don't know if it is worth your time, but TH-cam Channel "Blondy Hacks" just builded a die grinder kit. Might get some ideas.
Thanks for letting me know, much appreciated.
