      @@Memesfromthemonkey I know this questions wasn't for me but it's not hard to get in to. I'd say your biggest challenge will be casting. Imo its what turns off most people to fly fishing. Once you're comfortable with that aspect of it there's nothing "hard" about it really. Just need to take the time to learn the methods that help you have success. I can say personally casting was and still is frustrating at times but it gets better and better and the satisfaction of catching on fly is very rewarding. Good luck!

    I’m kinda a newbie at flyfishing so it helps when you discuss what gear you’re using along with the fly. Add some casting techniques and pointers and I think you’ll get many more viewers.

Laurel Hill state park and a small brown stream, Jones Mill run, and Dunbar creek are my 2 favorite. • @barddzen
    @barddzen 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    One of the elements of fly fishing that I had to break myself of was not hanging on to the line when I cast. I didn’t understand why this was a problem until I started missing strikes when the fly hit the water, streamer or not. Because I didn’t have a finger on the line to make the set, the opportunity was lost and often that’s the only time that fish would hit and I’d have to move on.

    • @hardmanfishing
      @hardmanfishing  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I've fished both north Georgia and Pa, both of which this would be considered a smaller sized creek. Let's not be too crazy here 😂 in fairness though the gopro makes these creeks look far larger than they are.

    Gotta start strip setting and keep that tip down! Not trying to hate or act like a know it all, but makes a big difference on hook up rate! Cool video 👌

    • @hardmanfishing
      @hardmanfishing  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've found that it doesn't matter much in those small streams. Usually when I get up to larger rivers I start strip setting. Maybe it's just a mental thing but when I see fish swipe or try to kill my streamer and I just strip without any reaction I don't think I hook up as much. But I could be wrong.

    • @Trouthunter39
      @Trouthunter39 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@hardmanfishing yeah to each their own man! You catch plenty of sweet fish so it’s obviously working for ya! IMO I feel that lifting the tip introduces slack into the equation leading to a period of time without contact, whether the water is big or small! I fish predominantly a small very clear creek and it’s insane how many times fish will grab the fly and let it go before you feel anything, which is why I’m against using the tip to move the fly or lifting the tip for the first couple seconds after the eat just because you’re already at a disadvantage IMO. Keep up the great videos I enjoy watching the streamer stuff quite a bit!

    • @hardmanfishing
      @hardmanfishing  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      no you do not. run a 20" of 12lb maxima (green or reg) off your fly line into 20" of 1x fluorocarbon tippet. Connect them using a tippet ring...this is a short leader setup for sinking tip fly line. For floating line setup you want a much longer leader about 8 to 9 ft. But I prefer streamers with short head fast sink tip line no matter what size stream I fish

    I live in Ohio, there are no natural streams that I know of aside of one. The Chagrin River and the Rocky River
    A tributary in Geauga County of the Chagrin River, and the Rocky River and its tributaries, located in Medina County, are the host to populations of wild Brook trout in Ohio. The Chagrin tributary is the only remaining naturally occurring population of native Brook Trout in Ohio. Both of these rivers are located in Northeast Ohio. State regulations prohibit possession of trout from these waters. For this reason it is advisable to use barbless hooks when fishing for trout in either of these two rivers but it is legal to harvest steelhead trout from these two rivers. Wild trout fishing here is almost non existent. There is a reservoir close to my house that is very deep and cool enough to hold them and it does have some large lake trout in it with depths up to 60 feet. I hooked something in there one day that litterally drug our Jon boat , no gas motors allowed all over the place for about 20 minutes before it got off. I never did see what it was but is was large.
