At the intro of the ending we can see charles just kind of give up once the criminals escape. He probably felt lost. And he even says it himself: the clan has been causing alot of problems. He probably feels helpless and desperate. Then in another effort to protect his friend he ends up sacrificing himself. Also the fact that the ending was so short. Maybe he even felt a little hurt at the end, knowing that in his last moments even after he gave his life up for him, henry still didnt say a word, even if henry just maybe didnt know what to say or was too shocked. And Henry's POV too. He bangs on the glass before he just gives up, knowing there's nothing he can do. It's over. He probably also regrets not saying anything or attempting to save charles.
