My grandpa always loved his driftwood. We never really appreciated and we made fun of it as a joke. But now he’s not with us anymore and we appreciate it. I want to continue what he did, collecting driftwood. I found my first piece yesterday. I like to say my grandpa helped me find it even though he’s not with us.
Thank you so much. Your method is a lot cheaper using cleaning products we all have in our home. I will use this method from now on for driftwood. Great job and advice.
Hello, the beaches in Galveston have opened in the morning for walks and running. I took this opportunity to do some beach combing and collected some wood and shells. I do lots of crafts. Thought I'd try my hand at driftwood art. This led me to you. Thank you for this informative video.
What a great video thank you so much! I love collecting driftwood I just got into it this past summer, but only a couple pieces are already bleached from the sun, beautifully white, but the rest are exactly like your “before” pile; brown with some dark spots. I’m going to try this today thank you so much!
I know this comment is a year old but maybe hydrogen peroxide if you need an alternative? It’s used to clean and degrease bones and isn’t potent at all, you can get it any almost any grocery/drug store or pharmacy
good to know how to prepare for use thinking of trying some driftwood art thank you Smitty and by the way one of your pieces looks like a rabbit to me ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,UP
Hey Smitty - Don't know how much PSI your air compressor is - but you should be wearing some sort of gloves when blowing down the drift wood with an air gun.
That could work as well I haven’t tried. I just wanted to get the wood as clean as possible before I bleached them to make sure the debris didn’t make it spotty.

Getting ready for my own driftwood project so this helped me a lot! 👍
Thank you, man! Going to try the same approach for my sticks.
Love it! This will be a great DIY for me to try to use as decor at home
Great job man! Very well explained
They look nice! So what can I put on them to preserve them and put outside in landscaping? Some kind of polyurethane?? Ty!!
Exelente vídeo felicitaciones 🔥🤔 desde Puebla
Do i have to soak it in freshwater after soaking it in bleach? I'll use it for airplants. Thanks.
Thanks lots buddy! Just starting to work with driftwood. Subbed!
Stephen Kelly awesome, glad I could help!
Great job, thank you for sharing
I’ve been saving driftwood from our local beach for awhile now. Problem is, they are very long. I was hoping to make walking sticks with them.
It is safe to put on aquarium for aquascaping? I mean the bleaching it’s kinda harmful for fishes.
Thanks man helped so much 👍
Clutch Moto glad I could help!

Any ecofriendly way of bleaching?

Do you use hot or cold water to bleach the Driftwood
I used cold water.
I super love this
She is a great looking Golden
First measure, second water first pour then water, mix , put sticks last, cover, wait, dump, look, repeat
Would this work to remove paint off drift wood?
I’m not too sure.

unknown painter that's the great thing about driftwood, each piece is unique and it's all how the mind interprets it!

Question...why wouldn't you just bleach, then dry them and clean them? Just wondering?
That could work as well I haven’t tried. I just wanted to get the wood as clean as possible before I bleached them to make sure the debris didn’t make it spotty.
I've done that and it ruins the bleach too quickly. It's best if you clean them first.
How would I clean driftwood that is already a lamp, thank you
I think you may have missed your opportunity.
What glue is best for driftwood please?
I use gorilla glue quite a bit. If it’s for an aquarium there’s specific types you can use. Seachem flourish glue is a good one.
@@Smittydoesthingz thank you
Am I right in thinking you don't need to rinse off the bleach?
I didn’t, just let it dry.
Is it ok to skip the bleaching part?
You could but it will help kill bacteria and other organisms in the wood and help to preserve it.
@@Smittydoesthingz thank you
You can use salt and vinegar
@@animayatv5999 thank you
I just used two shots of top shelf spiced rum and I feel sanitized with a nice warm glow 🤠
What type of bleach do you recommend?
I used cheap superstore brand and it worked just fine.
Lemon scented bleach? 🤨 idk where the wood ended up going but idk if anyone should put that in an aquarium 🤣🤣
Should I be concerned about some white gelatinous looking stuff browning on my wood (self prepared from stuff I found)
Have you bleached it yet?
Bro' throw them in the dish washer. Gets them clean and does not damage them.
