I bought a couple of those cheap Walmart specials on close out for $4 each. Both a Jake and feeder hen. I painted them and also used a brown and black permanent marker to color them up. Mine look pretty real now. I’m asking Santa for a pair of DSD or Avion x HDR decoys. My buddy has a spread of 8 DSD decoys he uses. It’s deadly on turkeys. My cheapies, the same as yours, I have had many turkeys hang up or turn around and walk the other way after they take on look at them.
Those foam decoys do work, I do a little painting on them to make them look better, I've had gobblers come in full strut to them. I actually did an experiment one year. I put a foam decoy to one side, and a rubber one on the other. That gobbler turned his nose up to the rubber one, and went to the foam decoy just drumming and strutting. Guess its what works for you.
A person should buy the best decoy they can afford, period. Avian X and DSD are going to be the most realistic, but they do come at a price. Start at the top and work backwards until you get to the decoys that won't break the bank. Those foam ones will work at times, but they are about as realistic as hanging my dirty underwear on a stick. Early season you need quality. Late season you can get away with a little more error.
I'm loving my Avian X decoys...Just picked up the new Avian X HDR hen yesterday..New for this year..I got the HDR Jake last year..Was hoping for an HDR feeder but no such luck..Maybe next year.
It was late season, but I got my first turkey on a cheap foam hen decoy. Use what you got. You can always take some time and upgrade a low end decoy and make it look better. Some glossy black paint on the eyes would make them look more realistic. I liked how lightweight and easy it was to pack in and out

How do you limit the movement of the decoy?
If you want to keep a foam one to keep its shape when setting up. Just stuff it full of grass to keep it from collapsing back in.
here 2guys wounder how i make look easy fill turkey tags i use 15 decoys

well said. some of my best luck has came from the funky chicken
I've had birds run from the sight of a foam decoy. DSD. It will outlast the hunter.
