When you finish a book/series, and afterwards you just sit there for a moment and process the fact that the book/series has finished, the adventure is over, and yet it still seems to constantly be on your mind. I find it such a powerful thing😆😆

I haven't thought about this but you're so right. After finishing a book I can't just jump head first into the next one because the story is still echoing in my head. And it is great whenever a book does that.

Or the fact that several hours has just gone by and its now 3:45am when you distinctly remember picking the book up at 10pm and saying to yourself "just for a little while", and when you set down the book for the night it feels like you were only reading for an hour.
I both love and hate those times. Love because it felt so cosy being immersed in the book, but hate because it's late and I know I need sleep.

Reading books and holding them close to my chest; sitting in a vintage old chair (mostly on vacation) and thinking how life would have been if I didn't have technology; reading books that are based on a person's real life (Louisa May Alcott) and then doing the research behind the inspiration of the book and falling in love with book and characters; Finding a new favorite character (Currently Beth March from Little Women) and just including them in everything I do (essays and stories) and realizing that you have a lot of things in common with that character.

That feeling you get when the world fades with your peripheral vision, and you are completely encompassed by the story.
Rereading old childhood favorites to my younger siblings and reliving the nights spent with my Mom as she read to me.
The feeling of a warm mug of tea in one hand and the smell that you can only find in library books.
Dragging fingers over spines as you walk through empty bookstores. Stopping to hover over one you've read, recalling how it made you feel.

I love either sitting in my bed or sneaking out on to my roof and reading with a rain soundtrack playing ( my room is right beside the cow pasture so it can get pretty loud). There is this perfect little nook in the roof that I clean off every once in a while and just hide there with my current read.
I also love sitting listening to an audiobook while shuffling cards ( gotta do something with my hands ). I love how a great audiobook can really make a book seem like a movie.

One thing about books that comforts me, is the feeling of actually being present in the story. You feel what the characters feel, mentally engaged in battle with them, cheering them on, being frustrated with their choices but in the end understanding. It feels like...well it feels like an adventure with friends. The characters become friends and it's comforting in a way, because they'll be there waiting, ready for another grand adventure!

some bookish things that bring me comfort:
    - a friend loving the book I recommended them
    - coming home to your bookshelves after a long day or from vacation; "now I'm home 🥰"
    - reorganizing my books (it can be chaotic, but it always brings me inner peace)

  • @bluereader7753
    @bluereader7753 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

The bookish things that bring me comfort are:
When the characters are going through what many are scared of going through or are going through like moving to a different house.
When time stops and you could just endlessly read on.
When you finish a book and run your finger along your new book you are now starting to read.
When your bff or friend is a book lover and they agree and are very close like your emotions for books (my bff was that person but she moved).
When you touch those very nice feeling covers and they have that buttery kind of feel to them.
Reading by a cackling bright amber fire whole drinking hot chocolate on a winter day.
Reading and hearing the splash of raindrops hitting the ground and hear the roaring thunder while sitting by your window.
(If you live by the beach or are soon you will know what I am talking about or had a vacation to the beach.) Hearing the ocean waves splash and feel the warm sand filling through your toes.
Going to the library with a blanket and sitting on a comfy puffy chair on a beautiful afternoon and see a light breeze waving through the trees and plants outside.
Just running your hand through book in your book shelve or at the library.
There are many more reply to my comment on what your are?

This is beautiful. I reminded me of all the memories I've stored in my books, all the experiences and feelings, how I've grown up and I realize that each book I see is special. Maybe I've only read it once, and maybe I'll never read it again, but it holds memories of places and of me. Maybe I never finished that series, but there's no pressure to do so, and it reminds me of past years I spent with a really good friend. I still remember the things that made those memories special. And that's the beauty of books.

Going into a bookstore and seeing a favourite book of the shelf and be reminded of the stories and the characters I fell in love with and the knowledge that’s it there and someone else will pick it up and get to explore that world and hopefully love it as much I do.

This is so beautiful! I almost got emotional, realising how special books can make you feel. There is joy to be found in the little things; thank you for helping us remember ❤️

One bookish thing that makes me feel comfort is BookTube and BookTubers like Jesse. Even if I'm not reading or I'm going through a slump, it's lovely and comforting to feel the presence of the stories people love and want to talk about and spread while also having amazing, interesting personalities. I love it so much 😊 beautiful video Jesse

I really enjoy this type of videos ! When it comes to books, I mostly love reading at night, sitting in an armchair. I love wandering about in my favorite bookstore (Furet du Nord in France) and being surrounded with so many different stories as well. You could even sit down in that store and read a little before deciding to buy the book. Like you, I appreciate it when it rains and I can get soothed by the sound of it. I also like to read something that gives me the thrill.

This video made me feel like I was listening to positive affirmations. I loved this! A bookish thing that brings me comfort is seeing the progress from of bookmark in a book, because I am a really slow reader. Also hugging my book after I finished reading it as a way to thank the book and the author for giving me an amazing story.

The "Passing on a book you've grown out of" one is so true. I have a friend who is like my little sister, who's nine. Her older sister doesn't like to read, but I'm a huge reader and I did NOT want her to end up disliking reading as much as her sister. So I loaned her a book that was my favorite when I was her age, and I expected her to take forever to read it cause she never just reads for the fun of it. But she read it in a few weeks, and asked for the second one. We carpool to our sport and I always read on the drive. A few days ago she started to also. And in two days, she is almost 1/2 of the way through the second book and is reading on every car ride (whenever I do). And the best part is that she's loving the story and characters and I'm SO glad she's learning how valuable books can be.
Sorry for that little story I'm just very happy.

i love it when the athor reterns to a emotional theme or phrase that they mentioned at the beginning like in Salt to the sea were at the beginning they say Fate is a hunter ect and then retern to that phrase at the end little memorys that the charters remind you of that just warm your hart

Just like the title this video was so comforting and relaxing 💖 A bookish thing that is really comforting to me (and I’ve only found this out recently) is reading a classic (mostly Jane Austen) and feeling super connected with people from the past. The fact that I can relate/connect to their struggles, personalities and thoughts after all that time is really comforting to me

i love making book piles too, even though i also have mood reader tendencies that take control. it’s nice to see them and know they’re there for me, just like being surrounded by books in a store 💗 but that’s standstill moment.... that’s everything. this was so lovely 💗

For me the best thing is being in an oversized hoodie with a big mug of hot chocolate and a book while it's cold outside and you just fall into the story that U start to pass over some words because you're so far past just reading, you're in the book experiencing the events as they happen and it's a rush and feeling like coming home at the same time

I absolutely love going through tabbed books. It's a fairly new habit of mine to tab books now and I just went through an old favorite the other day and rediscovered old favorite quotes. Another random bookish thing I love is finding fellow readers to converse with or recommend books to at bookstores. Unfortunately not doing that at the moment...

I love handwritten dedications in secondhand books. I have a secondhand book with old fashioned fabric, hardback binding and washed-out cream-colored end pages. The first page has the simplest of dedications. "From Anne, Christmas 1957". Every time I look at it I feel like a time traveler.
