Fix 4wd Light After CAD Delete

  • If have removed your Central Axle Disconnect (CAD) then this video shows how to replace the old vacuum switch with a new electronic switch for your 4wd indicator light. The old vacuum transfer case switch for the 4wd indicator light no longer works once the vacuum actuated central axle disconnect system is removed. The electronic switch from a TJ wrangler is an easy bolt on solution to get the light up and running again!

    Great idea on the video, however some of the important details were vague. Such as the vacuum lines, which ones and where were they located? The lighting under the Jeep when filming would be a great help. Better details and descriptions like which axle would be a direct fit. I think you have a great idea just put some more time in the content and planning. This is a project I would like to do. I do look forward to future video’s!

      I agree that this video could be more detailed. It's a very specific fix to an incredibly specific problem that I already half fixed. Not my best work. The good news is that I think some of my other videos are done better and I am certainly willing to improve! Thanks for the feedback and thanks for the view!

    I could not find a size for that vacuum switch. Thanks for letting us all know it works with a 1-1/16" 12pt deep socket.

    Great video, ordered the parts, the melt indexing notch trick worked perfectly. So had an idea were I would not need to solder under the jeep. Steps ...
    1. disconnect vacuum connection at transfer case
    2. Cut and Pull three of vacuum tubes up thru the harness, cap off no longer used vacuum tube connections
    3. use 4th vacuum tube to fish wiring harness with indexed solenoid switch connector already attached at the end up thru wiring bundle.
    4. Attach (solder) old 4wd Light connector at the top of the new harness and connect to existing 4wd light connector at the top of engine bay just below the battery.
    Haven't done this yet. Is there some gotcha I haven't considered when pulling the harness up rather than down. Thanks!

    Hello I'm 446 sub. my jeep 1990 yj had the CAD disconnect done before I bought it.. After viewing your video I looked and the vacuum connector is missing the switch is still on the transfer case.. I bought the switch and plug you mention but at the other side Solenoid Connector what are the wires I need to connect to have my indicator light on my dash to come on. My light is located between the speedo and tac. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hey Jeep Sheep... do you think there is any harm in the Posi lock on my YJ.... almost always driving on a reg road?

    • @JeepSheepTV
      @JeepSheepTV  ปีที่แล้ว

      Technically there is more harm than when it's unlocked but the next Model TJ was locked all the time from the factory so they must have decided its OK.

    Just curious if I fully locked my 92 YJs front axle with the vacuum disconnect fully operational, would it be rough steering around corners when the axle disconnected on one side?

    • @JeepSheepTV

      You should be ok as long as you are not in 4wd. The front tires will still be able to spin at different speeds.

    So I got the posi lock... and don't know if it works or not as the light doesn't show up.. do I just do the same procedure as you to have the light show up... also light showing up wont mean its actually working right ?

    • @JeepSheepTV
      @JeepSheepTV  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you have the factory vacuum posi lock or the aftermarket cable one the light is triggered by a switch on the posi lock itself. If you do this modification the light will come on when the transfer case is in 4x4 but you might not have 4x4 if the posi lock is not engaged.

    • @JeepSheepTV
      @JeepSheepTV  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@francescosuarez ok so the light should be activated by the switch on the assembly mounted to the axle. If that's not working then I would check electrical connections. It's also possible that the cable isn't fully actuating the posi lock. In that case you won't have a light or 4x4. That was the issue I had a lot and that's why I put in a cherokee axle shaft

    So when you switch into 4wd the transfer case uses pressure to push in the switch?

    • @JeepSheepTV
      @JeepSheepTV  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The push button switch for the light? I believe it just rides on some of the internal linkage and when in 4wd the linkage pushes the button on the switch.

    • @cb-gz1vl
      @cb-gz1vl 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JeepSheepTV Well you replaced the vacuum 4 plug on the transfer case so I thought it was pushing some air when you engage 4wd.

    • @LiamLafferty
      @LiamLafferty 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@cb-gz1vl It does not, the vac switch was either opened or closed by an internal component on the transfer case. The vac pressure came from the engine and either passed though the switch or not based on the position of the switch. The transfer case generates no pressure of its own. Hope this helps!
