    Mat you are the man I know you made this video 8 years ago I just got into jeeps I just bought a 1991 jeep YJ and I did the single shaft swap and let me tell you auto zone does not know there seals and I’m sure with all the help of your subscribers you made it possible for regular people like me to do my own repairs.

    YJ had the 2 piece and CAD system until the end of their run in '95.

    Go to NAPA and get oil seal 11800, It does look a little different but it's the right size.

    Also, I used to have one of those cable things for the 2 piece and had lots of problems with it. (I still have it in the shop). Not to mention the fork is the weak link and the 2 piece shaft as well. + it would cost less and be stronger just to do the conversion... just my thoughts...

    Just swapped axles in my 87 xj renix out of a 95 xj. I went through 5 seals before I figured out how to do it, step (1) buy seal from oreillys part number 473426. Step (2) sand the axle tube a bit where the seal will go. Step (3) put seal in freezer for one hour. Step (4) use seal driver to hammer in seal. The Tolerances are very tight the first time I tried the seal buckled.

    Great vid I have access to very large sockets and washers. By using extensions as you did thru axle tube to push seal was nice.

    Just curious if I fully locked my 92 YJs front axle with a spool, with the vacuum disconnect fully operational, would it be rough steering around corners when the axle disconnected on one side?

    So you can just reinstall the carrier while using the same orientation of caps and bolts? You don't have to worry about measuring backlash and such? New to this stuff and really don't wanna toast my axle. Thanks for the videos really enjoy all the info, thanks!

    Did you put an outer seal in? The old warn kits came with an outer seal to prevent stuff from sitting in the cad housing after the swap.

    I broke my drivers side and got a deal for both axles so i'm doing this. I have everything ready to go back in but, where you put the seal in at the diff there is no groove for the seal to go in and stop. Do you just put it in flush and it will stay?

  • @bleepinjeep
    @bleepinjeep  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    It is very difficult and requires a lot of specialty tools, probably about $500+ worth. I would leave it too the pros unless you have someone with you who knows what they are doing and can teach you. I dont feel like it is something I can cover in a video because there are just too many things to go over and too many variables.

  • @timgrant454

    Try putting the seal in the freezer for a few hours before, this will shrink the seal so that will slide in easier.

  • @bleepinjeep
    @bleepinjeep  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Well, it wouldn't really work like an open diff. With it welded and the fork disconnected the front driver side would still be engaged full time, meaning you would be driving around in three wheel drive, all 3 wheels locked (supposing you had a locker in the rear). That would be worse than an open front diff as the front passenger wouldn't pull at all and the front driver would be very stressed... cont...

  • @therednecklife
    @therednecklife 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    I agree with the stress side when in 4x, don't want to wreck my diff to find out all I'm gonna do is twist axles... But in 2wd-welded should be basically open, the pass. Side center axle piece would be rotating backwards(in relation to wheels) and drivers would be turning the whole carrier, hence always Spinning the driveshaft, just like ur convertion is going to

  • @therednecklife
    @therednecklife 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yeah, weld the spiders, with the the delete kit (pull cable for the shift fork) I'd be able to select between turning the drivers side frt or both, hard locked. Its a poor man's frt locker, don't know anyone who has done it, would love some feedback

    So by changing that 2 piece axle with a 1 piece you have made it a full time 4x4 ? What's the benefit ?
    Now the front differential will be full time 4x4 and when turning it's going to skip or break the differential gears ???
    I'm sure that's why jeep install the vacuum selection motor . When it in 4x4 and when it's not ! Especially on the road or highway...
    Explain.
    Unless your jeep is off road only and not on the highway or hard roads !

    • @bleepinjeep
      @bleepinjeep  ปีที่แล้ว

      No. The transfer case selects 4 wheel drive, not the differential. The only thing a 3 piece shaft does it to let the shafts sit still while moving saving a bit on fuel economy. It's not too different than a lockout hub on a big truck.
