@Rohit yes they are. But there is no SDE 2 kind of things in HFTs. If you are trader, you will be trader in future as well. There is no Trader 2 or senior trader.

Learn java in your first sem. Then start exploring DSA from second semester. After learning java, explore competitive programming first on codechef and codeforces.
