  • From the National Library of Israel website: "The Gershom Scholem Collection is the only institution in the world that holds an almost-complete collection of sources and studies in the fields of Kabbalah, Hasidism and Sabbatianism, Jewish mysticism and general mysticism.
    The collection houses some 35,000 items relating to the study of Jewish and general Mysticism. The core of the collection is from the personal library of the late Professor Gershom Scholem. This collection is unique, embodying the personal library of one of the most important intellectuals of the twentieth centuries, and one of the most passionate collectors of Jewish books. Combining extraordinary knowledge with great love.
    The collection includes substantial thematic sections devoted to the Heichalot literature, Ashkenazi Hasidism, the Zohar and accompanying commentaries, Lurianic Kabbalah, Hasidism, Sabbatianism, twentieth-century Kabbalah, Jewish philosophy, Midrashic literature, the Dead Sea Scrolls, Christian, Islamic and Eastern mysticism, Zoroastrianism, Gnosticism, Hermeticism, Alchemy, Astrology, Myth, Magic, German literature, the works of Franz Kafka, Walter Benjamin, Martin Buber, and so forth.
    Alongside rabbis, Kabbalists and interested readers, the collection is also visited each year by dozens of researchers in the Kabbalah and Judaism from throughout the world, who draw on the collection in order to complete their studies.
    The Gershom Scholem Collection functions as a global center for the study of Kabbalah and Hasidism, and is considered by outstanding researchers in Israel and around the world as the best source of information and fruitful dialogue in its core subjects. The Collection also functions as a “living museum,” commemorating Scholem’s life and thought as the embodiment of the blossoming of study of the Kabbalah and modern Jewish thought in the twentieth century."

    So interesting this video. Somehow I sense that this treasure has been kept from the general public - as if it was a secret. Thank you for discovering it for us. Along the interview I thought that it would be nice to be a louse within those books...

    I'm visiting Jerusalem in a few weeks and I'm planning to, hopefully, see the Scholem collection myself! Otherwise this wonderful virtual visit isn't all that bad to be left with

    Rabbi Reuvain Margolies was also a librarian who was also prolific in texts as well as Jewish mysticism. In fact he had an exchange with scholem on a number of subjects.
    It's funny cause I've been to both Hebrew University library campuses when I was in yeshivah in Jerusalem and I never heard of the scholem library.
    This is fascinating. Thank you.

      You’re most welcome Yosef. Yes, Margolies is a fascinating character. Thank you for mentioning him. Another fascinating character, librarian, rabbi and scholar who had some fascinating disagreements with Scholem was Yehoshua Mondshine. Worth looking into. Glad I could share this library with you.
      Much love,
      Zevi

    Hey just a question, was jung, as a Christian, more interested and wrapped in Christian cabala(Latin tramslations of zohar pieces) or jewish kaballah?

    • @SeekersofUnity
      @SeekersofUnity  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jung’s native exposure was to Christian Cabala, but was exposed to Jewish Kabbalah as well, and even Hasidism, through his Jewish friend and students. I think we may have touched on it in out series on Jung and Jewish Mysticism: th-cam.com/play/PL_7jcKJs6iwVJVlf9YTuik8obGFKapn9b.html Hope you enjoy :)
