Another farm you tube I watch out of LA (Lower Alabama) sprays something that has helped keep the deer out of their beans and cotton. I'll see if i can find the video and reply later.
I have japanese beetles pretty severely until the buckwheat flowers. Buckwheat really brings in the beetle's predators, takanid fly is listed as a main predator (that apparently uses buckwheat too) but last year I had wolf and garden orb weaver spiders out there that were nearly big enough to put saddles on so I know they were having a rodeo on those beetles. .. I plant a ring of buckwheat (and other plants like sunflowers, tillage radishes, flax, and oats -- the more the merrier) around the outside of the corn and bean fields. That buffer also seems to fill up the deer and rabbits on a buckwheat salad and not the main crop. Shade of the trees around fields doesn't produce much corn or bean yield anyway so the buckwheat mix helps.
