But I don’t hold anything against you for supporting it, as you stated last time we spoke, there have been several instances where a such victories have been useful in inspiring further action from others that proved to turn the tide of a war. Why is it that no matter how powerful the demon, there is always a bigger BADDER one out there. This just lets you understand how powerful the Demon Lords are to command such monstrosities.
And just think of the devil's that are able to push them back as well... Sing a war like that would probably look like several nuclear bombs going off indefinitely
Well truthfully , it's a lesson for real life :: someone is always going to be bigger ,stronger, faster ,better at various activities ...no matter how much one excells at a anything. You may do 12 other things better than that someone . But in that one whatever it is , they are more proficient . That's the lesson . Be humble in your own prowess.

I am going to make use of these fellas. They seem to be much rarer than Balors are and, if I stick with there only being 6 Balors, that would mean 5 or less of these suckers. I would make it 3. 1 for Demogorgon, 1 for Dagon, 1 for Pale Night. The rest of the demon lords are powerful but those 3 are the cream of the crop.

As well as shadows turning into physical manifestations of your darker emotions that pop in and out of existence with little to no warning.
I can definitely see these surpassing all other demons aside from strong lords. Where the demon lords are just that, lords of a layer where they have power, I see these Klurichir more like nomadic warlords, going through different layers looking for targets be they demon lords, rivals, paths to other planes, anything.
The Klurichir must be ancient. Lord Beerus has been trying to achieve Autonomous Ultra Instinct for a few millennia without success, yet ALL Klurichir possess the skill? Now we have a new Arc for Goku.
I would argue that a demon invasion in 40K is as big of a deal as in DnD. Because you should not compare the one DnD world but the entire Multiverse to the galaxy of 40K. Thus, if we used the meaning "infinite" properly there would be more than a billion concurrent demon invasions happening every second in DnD if a demon invasion happened on every world out of a billion once in its entire existence. Infinity is BIG. Realistically in DnD it would probably instead mean that there is another layer above each instance of the "multiverse" But yeah, on the multiverse scale a demon invasion is "Just another Monday afternoon" same as it is in 40K. HOWEVER, the multiverse is less connected than the imperium so that also plays a role, so you don´t really get the multiverse picture.
yea so technically its just a single world even if its a multiverse, for the people living there its just that one world, most if not everyone don't even know multiverses exist
For those Balor Lovers who run epic campaigns with Parties that swat Balor or Balors this a great scary alternative to provide that oh shit moment. I used one in an Orcus centered Campaign that ended with a gateway collapse to stop a demon incursion lead by an aspect of Orcus.
When these turn up, its like when the Balrog is approaching the fellowship of the ring in the Mines of Morea... the other demons just get quiet and scatter, its _Amazingly spooky_ as they *NEVER* do that, and then your ears are nearly ruptured by the battlecry of this god slaying engine of chaos.
These monsters are just asking for an evil druid to become enamored with them. Would make for a really interesting character with a little homebrewing, or an unexpected BBEG when the Hive Lord suddenly shapeshifts into a very angry gnome who swears vengeance for murdering his family before vanishing down a tiny escape chute!

Fun fact: I think these guys inspired the World of Warcraft Burning Crusade "Terrorguard" versions of the WC3/Vanilla WoW doomguard since they also have the stomach face with normal jaws and pincers
Ok, so challenge rating aside, realistically what level should a group of 5 players be to face this thing where it’s actually a challenge and not lose out on what it’s supposed to be? And that can be with a retinue of other demons supporting it. I’m a little tired of my players basically just trouncing anything I throw at them, but also don’t want to completely overwhelm them.
Ok AJ forgive me for this been on a bit of a classic Bionicle binge but the image you pick for the thumbnail immediately made me think of Karzahni,about as close to a demon as you can get in a Lego franchise. Fun fact a group called Red Star Games has put out a set of rules for Bionicle RPGs, if ever wanting some interesting Biomech creature inspiration I say check em out. I know you are primarily DnD, WH40K and all but never hurts to get ideas from the Time Before Time.
Molydeus are living embodiments of there masters will but weaker then a Klurichir. My guess is that the molydeus would be below a Klurichir on it's own but when it speaks with the demon lords direct will it would out rank it do to being a direct mouth piece. This would cause a sort of forced respect in both directions. I could be wrong but that's how I would run it.
Also keep in mind that these are demons, "higher position" is only a meaningful concept until someone gets sufficiently irritated enough to go for the throat.

I love the demon/devil picks, but could you put in the description of levels of players your placing on facing. I know the creatures have a CR, but when you go after the Beholder you fight their minions, traps and lair effects. I got a couple where they are captured, but not outright killed because I really do not like TPK. The only time TPK is when they are captured and the Evil Chromatic dragon gives them a task or they die, if the level 5 players attack. TPK.
I have a weird question, how do devils prevent being overwhelmed in the bloodwar? Every battle essentially has to be a brutal choke point, but even then, given how devils require "wretched souls" to spawn, but demons sprout like red caps - strategically this becomes a problem over time. So yeah a weird question.

The way I picture it is that demons need to travel to the nine hells so the abyss just can’t dump everything it has at the front door and as long as devils remain stronger individually, they can take out larger hordes But this is just my idea on things. Strategy & tactics. Devils are nerdy, planning ahead. Demons are disorganized. Also, yugoloths scheme behind the scenes to ensure the continuation of the war, for their own gain. Plus, I bet a bit of influence from the upper planes is part of it, they don't want a side to win, because that means there's nothing distracting the winners from coming for others...more than usual.
This is one demon I never really took a liking to as for me, grognard that I am, the Balor (Type 6) demon always was and always should be the top-dog non-unique form of tanar'ri. I don't mind their existence in the lore despite being taken from Japanese anime, but they should not eclipse the balors.
Too bad these didn't make it into 5e. Facing one of these would be an excellent surprise phase 2 boss if the party managed to cut down the balor [supposed] BBEG.
So they can be affected by poisons/toxins, susceptible to necrotic damage and are most likely weak to radiant damage. It’s also beneficial to fight at a ranged distance to avoid that no healing aura.

Suggested pronunciation: (clur-rih-keer); reminds me of the Unseelie Fairy the Clurichaun, the counterpart of the Seelie Leprechaun. Clurichauns = nasty, evil drunk & Leprechaun = happy-go-lucky drunk.
Plenty. Would take something of similar rank but both heaven and hell has their Champions. And then you get into primordials even some far realm denizens. Do not let the intimidation factor of the klurichir fool you. The main strength of the abyss is it can basically field unlimited troops of unrelenting destruction. On an individual basis the other realms have many potent fighters that could even cow a demon lord. This is why letting demons get a good invasion going is a bad idea. Once they can leverage their near infinite respawn rate demons tend to win despite the superior powers of their foes
Sheer power isn't what Molydeus are about. They are the eyes and voice of the demon lord they serve. The real power they wield is their ability to be a direct conduit to that which they serve. Klurichur are just a hair or two shy of being demon lord's themselves. They only defer to the demon lord's because of the greater ability to bring ruin that gives them. A weak or foolish demon lord might find themselves on the recieving end of a klurichur's wrath. And find themselves being on the back foot.
Like it wouldn't be(unconsciously) trying to bite your hands, digits and arms off as you opperate... 😜😷🦷😴😵🦈It would totally be both. And as a greater demon, it would be loaded with enough cash to be worth it. And it would higher you "onperpouse". 💎💰🥳

Zachary Gadzinski Demogorgan has killed gods, the sittuation is more of an intrenched line(manned by devils) than a free flowing conflict. With limited resources, in order to continue actions, "sacrifices" must be made. The nine hells of the inferno is essentially a soldier factory. Gods don't have infinite power, which is exactly what a god would need to win the bloodwar - without becoming "the bloodwar".
Molydeus can't even take them. Klurichirs are very rare from what I can remember, but they are the most powerful state of demon evolution, before transforming into a unique Lord.
Not at all. The power levels of the outer planes are weird and strangely weak compared to many gargantuan material creatures like great wyrm dragons and the Tarrasque.
@@chuckwood3426 well you do have tiamat, Zarial and all the demon lords and lords of hell as they are all up around and a bit past dragons and such. Other then terrasque of course but thats another beast entirely being described as one of the fundamental destructers of the universe.
Creatures from the Prime have had to adapt to be so tough because of all of the threats from the other planes. When all of your neighbors are busy trying to kill you, you either get really tough really fast or you die.
As badass as a Klurichir is, it's definitely more powerful as a spellcaster than a melee combatant. It has a mountain of spells and similar innate abilities that it can lay waste with. The axes and vorpal chest pincers are really there to give it something to do when it runs out of spells or gets bored. XD
Tarrasque are one of the creatures by the gods for the dawn war. Which was a war between gods and primordials. A war that was literally over the right to decide over the act of creation. Demons are a threat not because they are individually powerful enough to challenge gods but because they corrupt creation itself into a shape the gods are loath to touch. And that demons are seemingly endless. Or at least capable of calling up reinforcements just as fast as they get cut down. So the Tarrasque is individually stronger than all but demon lords but the sheer numbers demons can throw at it would make a Tarrasque just a speed bump.
11:46 and 12:10 given that their limbs act on their own, and outside of their own awareness, and they can see through the eyes of lesser demons - going along the lines of a stagosaurus's second brain - added to 8:06 do they ever stop "ripping and tearing"? I can just picture other demons maintaining a set distance from klurichir at all times, besides battles. And i supposed they'd get endless joy out of pushing other demons inside the range just to see what happens. As far as empathising with a fictional character goes, the doomguy would feel so inadequate next to one. 😈🎸🎶
@@charlottewalnut3118 True, but I think Doom demons are vastly weaker than D&D demons on average, especially considering the setting and tools used to fight them. Any random archer with enough arrows, an unenchanted bow and a great strafing game can presumably solo a cyberdemon, and on the flip side anything with high-level sorcerer casting is probably a nigh unbeatable threat to someone with human mobility and no access to magic like Doomguy. It would be interesting to see some stat conversions between the two but we're dealing with very different types of gameplay that as a result lead to very different power levels.

As to the Klurichir, how would you guys estimate the effects of a Vorpal attack ability on CR? I have two monsters I'm currently working on that have Vorpal or Vorpal-like (removal of hearts) abilities. In my case, I crunched the numbers ala the 5e DMG and then added +4 to the CR. The stats for these monsters are currently on my Patreon. There are free versions too that are more of a shorthand document for planning the monster's construction.
If you are doing a video specifically about demons and their many types and names, maybe practice the names until you can say them without mumbling. More practice, more run throughs and maybe type out the names with pronunciation support. You can do better than this AJ.

Level 18 seems fine with 2 mariliths and 2 half demon hydras supporting the greater demon.
This thing is cr 24 ish when alone in 3rd edition for reference, and it's never alone as a leader of a literal army

Someone in the comments said Klurichir's are CR 27 and Molydeus is CR 21.
In fiendish codex 1 for 3.5 they're listed at CR17 and the Molydeus at CR19

Plenty. Would take something of similar rank but both heaven and hell has their Champions. And then you get into primordials even some far realm denizens. Do not let the intimidation factor of the klurichir fool you. The main strength of the abyss is it can basically field unlimited troops of unrelenting destruction. On an individual basis the other realms have many potent fighters that could even cow a demon lord. This is why letting demons get a good invasion going is a bad idea. Once they can leverage their near infinite respawn rate demons tend to win despite the superior powers of their foes

Yes
Sheer power isn't what Molydeus are about. They are the eyes and voice of the demon lord they serve. The real power they wield is their ability to be a direct conduit to that which they serve. Klurichur are just a hair or two shy of being demon lord's themselves. They only defer to the demon lord's because of the greater ability to bring ruin that gives them. A weak or foolish demon lord might find themselves on the recieving end of a klurichur's wrath. And find themselves being on the back foot.

With limited resources, in order to continue actions, "sacrifices" must be made. The nine hells of the inferno is essentially a soldier factory. Gods don't have infinite power, which is exactly what a god would need to win the bloodwar - without becoming "the bloodwar".

Molydeus can't even take them. Klurichirs are very rare from what I can remember, but they are the most powerful state of demon evolution, before transforming into a unique Lord.

How does it measure up to a terrasque?
Not at all. The power levels of the outer planes are weird and strangely weak compared to many gargantuan material creatures like great wyrm dragons and the Tarrasque.
@@chuckwood3426 well you do have tiamat, Zarial and all the demon lords and lords of hell as they are all up around and a bit past dragons and such. Other then terrasque of course but thats another beast entirely being described as one of the fundamental destructers of the universe.
Creatures from the Prime have had to adapt to be so tough because of all of the threats from the other planes.
When all of your neighbors are busy trying to kill you, you either get really tough really fast or you die.
As badass as a Klurichir is, it's definitely more powerful as a spellcaster than a melee combatant. It has a mountain of spells and similar innate abilities that it can lay waste with. The axes and vorpal chest pincers are really there to give it something to do when it runs out of spells or gets bored. XD
Tarrasque are one of the creatures by the gods for the dawn war. Which was a war between gods and primordials. A war that was literally over the right to decide over the act of creation. Demons are a threat not because they are individually powerful enough to challenge gods but because they corrupt creation itself into a shape the gods are loath to touch. And that demons are seemingly endless. Or at least capable of calling up reinforcements just as fast as they get cut down. So the Tarrasque is individually stronger than all but demon lords but the sheer numbers demons can throw at it would make a Tarrasque just a speed bump.

I can just picture other demons maintaining a set distance from klurichir at all times, besides battles. And i supposed they'd get endless joy out of pushing other demons inside the range just to see what happens. As far as empathising with a fictional character goes, the doomguy would feel so inadequate next to one. 😈🎸🎶

@@charlottewalnut3118 True, but I think Doom demons are vastly weaker than D&D demons on average, especially considering the setting and tools used to fight them. Any random archer with enough arrows, an unenchanted bow and a great strafing game can presumably solo a cyberdemon, and on the flip side anything with high-level sorcerer casting is probably a nigh unbeatable threat to someone with human mobility and no access to magic like Doomguy. It would be interesting to see some stat conversions between the two but we're dealing with very different types of gameplay that as a result lead to very different power levels.

Plug finished. As to the Klurichir, how would you guys estimate the effects of a Vorpal attack ability on CR? I have two monsters I'm currently working on that have Vorpal or Vorpal-like (removal of hearts) abilities. In my case, I crunched the numbers ala the 5e DMG and then added +4 to the CR.
The stats for these monsters are currently on my Patreon. There are free versions too that are more of a shorthand document for planning the monster's construction.

A stupid Archfiend basically? Yes, certainly, but you would have to home brew it.
I mean Paeliryon's exist. At least in older editions, I'm not as familiar with 5e
