Yeah, I've moved away from the deluxe editions in Kickstarter/crowdfunding. Actually, I've been backing fewer games in general because of my collection size. I need to be a little more picky in my purchases.
Oh my gosh, yes! Literally every CMON game I've ever looked into... or most of IVStudios games. All thriller no filler. I feel that deluxe editions just have been less and less enticing as the years go on. CoH 2E might be the last All In I ever purchase. But Primal, Thunder Road Vendetta, so many other games I've purchased all ins for and they just end up being such a hassle or not worth the effort. But damn, I JUST bought a used copy of Merchants of the Dark Road.... still excited to try it but sad that you found it disappointing. At least I got it for cheap so if I don't like it I can maybe make some money on it! I was close to backing Luthier because I liked Distilled a lot but the price is just too ridiculous. There's honestly no reason to back any of these games. There are so many people making this mistake that end up selling their backed games for cheaper or close to what the pledge cost was. If you wait you can just buy them later. I'm pretty sad I missed the campaign for Imperial Borders but if it ends up being good hopefully I can snag a copy of it later down the road. Fantastic vid! Look, that was just my experience with Merchants of the Dark Road. And for 50€ I don't even regret trying it. I hope you'll find it better than I did! These games like Luthier lose their value VERY quickly. It's very rare that a game now days hold its value.. I'll make sure to cover Imperial Borders in a way that will help you decide if it is for you or not.. I'll keep you updated brother ❤️
Yet another great video. Yes, I was saying that despite being a huge 2 players game, Rebellion - unlike the others - is all about hidden movement. (Very thematic and personally I recommend adding the expansion right with the first game). There is one game which I wonder what will be your experience with (although your table seems fully booked): Primal The Awakening Can't wait for your triple Lord of the Rings comparison!
I know Theurgy 😅 also sitting on my shelf of shame. I end up selling most of my kickstarters, but keep on pushing the deluxe pledge button 🙈. I recently started watching playthroughs and reading the rules before pledging and am backing way less.
I'm ready to bet that Star Wars Rebellion will stay in your collection 😁 For comparing WOTR with Dune: WFA I'm eager to see that video but for me both are like comparing apple and oranges... when I play both they feel worlds apart... I think it's the lenght of the game and the theme. Even if they have mechanics that resembles a little they feel unique. Thanks for the vid messieur de paris 😜

Many computer games do not transition well to board games. Computers are good at running a lot of stuff behind the scenes, and having lots of detail in memory. But in a boardgame, one of the players has to set up the decks of cards, place all of the chits & tokens, roll & count the dice, pull out the box and rules for the next scenario, etc. It is work that takes away from the fun of playing.
Completely agree with you! I did a while ago a video for my favorite board games that are based on video games. Since then, nothing really has changed 😅

At least if I find it at a deal or someone local wanna trade, I might have to give it a second go. Wouldnt be the first time ive bought-sold-bought a game. Most of these games leaving or entering ive never played but your reasons are sound. Have you looked at either "Triumph" by PHALANX, or "Tiny Epic Game of Thrones"? Totally agree with you about the KS prices/deluxification. Deluxification normally means bump up the prices even for the base pledge... A standard price manipulation strategy War of the ring the card game is another complete different experience from the board game. Not as epic but still, in my opinion, very very good, very interesting mechanics with the card management and a very tight game The head to head fantasy game family is finally united again 😂 the expansion for sw rb is kinda a must have, the epic feeling is still presente without it but it fixes the combat and gives you more replayability. I'm still searching for my Dune 😢 You are tempering me with the Dark Ages! Please stop 😂 Have a good week!

I played War of the ring the card game once (as the humans/elves) and i had the very strong feeling that the deck is quite "scripted": there is an ideal sequence how the cards should be played and how good you can do is strictly dependent by how close you draw cards to play that script. Of course you have to manage your hand and weight the combats but I did not find it personally really exciting.

No way! You fired Heroes 3. I was about to back it next month with the new expansions and stuff mainly because of the video you made ): Dude im in a serious debate with myself about backing it or not. From the one side, as you mention, is about 80% nostalgia and a 20% "expectations to be fun". Could you get a bit more in deep about this game? The mechanics, combats, exploration, etc.. does not worth having some manuals and beeing familiar with them? Cheers mate!
Haha I had a feeling it will be controversial 😅 Here's the thing.. I could have agreed to keeping the game (and maybe even having the new expansions!) IF there was ONE big box to keep everything together with ONE rulebook the combines everything. But to my understanding this is not the case. And anywhere that I look when I find one good thing there's also one bad thing, which is not positive in my opinion. The exploration mechanic is very basic and doesn't change a lot of things.. maybe they could have added some surprise combats? Or some bonuses when exploring? Because at some point exploration is just another thing.. the combat mechanism with the dice of -1 / +1 / 0 is king of lacking and making it maybe TOO simple. Since I would never recommend using the Battlefield expansion for any combat besides the absolutely last combat between players, the normal combat board is small and very repetitive. The lack of interaction untill the very end is making this game a mainly solo experience which is not what I was looking for. They tried to streamline the game (which I appreciate the effort) by limiting the round numbers and the tiles you can lay and the heroes you can recruit. But that is taking a big chunk of the PC game experience. I would add the possibility of recruiting more heroes and having more tiles ao the map can be bigger and you'll be able to do more things. If you don't have diplomacy, you won't be able most of the time to have creatures from different factions. And I'm not even talking about the possibility of having this game at 3(!) players.. that is just down-time agony. In 3 players, when one player is attacking, one player will 'play' for the enemy but that leaves 1 player just doing nothing. So that player is just left there singing "wake me up when September ends". This game could have been MUCH better, but at the price of being much less streamlined and taking more time with more moving components. So unfortunately it is a double edge sword. If I were you, I would try to get a 2nd hand copy of the game and see how it is. Trust me, you'll be able to get everything in the 2nd hand market. This game will not stay a long time with the players, especially seeing how many backers there are 😊

(im also bored about those board game influencers were every board game they receive for free are "perfect! enjoyable and fun game!") so i really respect your answer. For the moment maybe i will keep my small collection with "Starcraft+Brood war expasion" and "Eclipse Second dawn" and most probably you are right just trying to get it from the second hand market to try some testing.

It's better to keep a small but amazing collection of games that keep hitting your table, rather than many games that you're not sure of or just waiting to be played. Unfortunately that's the case.. I really wanted to like it more, but it's not worth the shelf space.. I will say that the production value is off the charts: the minis and materials are incredible
I call It Heroes of might and nostalgia I played and I find it drags way too long for what it is. In the first combat between 2 players we destroyed each other, which is something it might doom your chances to win. The combat between 2 players might take a while, leaving the other players there waiting. Depending on the person, they might even get bored.
I agree with every word. I just don't think I would ever play it at 3 oh my God... it will last FOREVER!! Heroes of Might and Nostalgia is brilliant 🤣🤣🤣🤣
we were 3 players, hence one person was always excluded from the combats (no matter if it was against npcs or another player). Since the players (play decently) more or less they progress equally, leaving very little opportunity for a combat that won't weaken both too much. Even if you stop the combat earlier on, you have to give up one of your cubes, which is a great deal. There is almost no reason to fight against the game unless it is the very last combat to steal the last game objective (we were playing the scenario where we had to control mines). Perhaps with different scenarios it is different...
