I saw them at my senior school at Stafford a year or 2 after I left (so ‘76 or ‘77) and can still replay Mick Green in his black and white striped leggings being pole axed by an electrical shock. IIRC correctly there was a break and then he came back on to finish the set. What a legend.
@banjaxed31 Too right..I caught The Pirates live at Scunthorpe Tiffanys of all places and they blew the place apart. Mick Green was a relentless wall of sound..stood there sweating his balls off ,legs apart...Ive never heard such power from a Telecaster. RIP Mick...many thanks to Frank and Johnny for a great gig that still is fondly remembered.
@geminiaxeman You have to be joking! I recorded a better version than that in 1964 and our version STILL didnt hold a candle to johnny kidd and the Pirates version. And live? Incredible. First opened for them at the Rex ballroom in Cambridge in the early sixties. We thought we were pretty good till they went on.
Yeah they might be but Mick pioneered playing rhythm and lead at the same time and whilst the guys you mention are great, they are not as exciting to watch and listen to (for me anyway)
you can tell what a huge influence Mick Green was on Wilco Johnson's guitar playing.
A phenomenal band!! Should have been up there with the greatest. Mick Green was unbelievably fantastic!!
THE BEST Rock & Roll band EVER!!!! Mick Green The Master of the Telecaster!!! Great stuff
The ORIGINAL Power Trio!!!!
Unbelievably good!!!! R.I.P. Mick
Goooooöd!
This is real rock and roll! Bravo, the Pirates!
Well I can tell, yes I can tell...
The Pirates were a fantastic live band!!!
Spence is an excellent rock and roll singer
Feel sad this was the last thing I heard him play ..what a band that was …power.

My grandfather wrote this song...this is good cover!
With Mick at the helm The Pirates ruled the air waves.
RIP Mick.
Cool as all hell! 👍👍
I agree
Just excellent .
Much heavier than in their Johnny Kidd days. Hot sweaty Rock "N" Roll.
Second to none , Pirates forever.

I love this song - all versions. Orig. by Bo Diddley, Feelgoods, Billy Childish etc. Godbless you Mick - RIP.
Bo Diddley appropriated this song from Chuck Willis' ballad (and rocked it up).

That's a good one Mick and Gram do favor each other hadn't noticed it before
I saw them several times and they were the most powerful band live I've ever seen with more energy than all the young punk bands of the time too.
молодцы ребята !!!Что ещё можно сказать !!!
Поддержую.! вышел на них через dr Feelgood ...
I saw the Pirates in 1977 - more noise than a B52 on a bomb run. RIP Mick
Muito bom
Era assim que se vivia antes do telemóvel...
+LUIS DUARTE Correcto
I've got a link to their collected works, so get in touch with me.
Not a patch on the late Johnny Kidd’s vocals on this song

Who is the bassist in this group is it John Gustafson from the Roxy Music
Johnny Spence

i just liked mick green
Always few wankers with their thumbs down
Albert, James and Clarence never ever performed as the guitarist in a three piece .
Given but would they have had the balls to do what Mick does without a thought? Maybe Albert lee.
Those country guys are much more skillfull on a tele like Albert Lee, James Burton, and Clarence White
telecasters sound great nothing to do with skill, a lot do with style!
