Actually, that was how rotary phones used to work. After you turn the dial, it makes the clicks, or dials the number as it rotates back to the beginning. It is difficult, but you can dial the number at the right speed, and pattern. There was an original version of this movie called Man hunter.
The reason 999 is the emergency number in the UK is because it is easiest to dial on a rotary phone. You just mash it clockwise as far as it'll go 3 times.
At 14:15, he was using pulse dialing. Old phone systems used pulse dialing, like a rotary dial, so when touchtone phones came out they had to have the alternate pulse dialing capability for areas that didn't have tone dialing yet. If you knew the pulse sequence for each number, you could do like Hannibal is doing and quickly tap the code with the receiver button.

I know Anthony Hopkins creeped you out. Yes. He seemed evil. That's because he's a great actor. He's in another movie you might like, "Legends of the Fall." Great movie. Brad Pitt plays his son. Julia Ormond (beautiful) is the love interest. He plays a very different role. The movie is fantastic. Love the reactions. Keep it up my friend!
What's really funny about Hopkins freaking people out is the story of how he once dated Martha Stewart, and she ended the relationship because she could not separate Hopkins from his portrayal of Hannibal Lecter. And that was from only like 16 minutes of screen time in the first film
So, FYI this is the 2nd movie adaptation for the screen from the book Red Dragon and the 4th movie about Hannibal Lector. There is a forgotten movie that came out before “The Silence of the Lambs” in the 80’s called: “Manhunter” and is based on the same book, Red Dragon, that this movie is based on and shares its name with. Manhunter was made by Michael Mann, same guy that made the movie “Heat”.
Rotary phones actually did work like that. I've dialed them that way just for fun. Normally you'd dial by turning the wheel to each desired number and letting go. It's spring loaded so it rotates back to the starting position on it's own, producing an interruption (a Click) as it goes by each number, dialing 5 makes 5 clicks etc. If you get the timing right you can make the clicks by tapping them out on where you'd place the receiver and leaving a short pause between numbers, pretty much the way Lecter did. For his call, they dialed the number on a regular extension and brought him one with the dial removed to keep him from making a different call but you really could get around that the way he did. You have to get the timing just right though.
Ralph Fiennes is such a good actor. and i love to see JL hate a bad guy and Ralph plays one so good. I mean you have to be a good villain when you play Voldemort and it's a step down from the previous badguy you played in Schindler's List. you know what i mean? but i honestly don't want to break JL's heart with that one, it's too hard. i would like to see him do all the Harry Potters even though i can tell he knows them by heart, i think his commentary would be good.
We’ve discussed seeing if people want to see him do commentary for movies he’s seen. The Scream franchise is another he may do if people want stuff he’s seen.
If you haven’t already seen it, Manhunter is an earlier adaptation of Red Dragon and is phenomenal for the time it was made. It’s so easy to see the things that are in the book by what both movies keep and change ever so slightly. I recommend it if you haven’t yet watched it.
This red dragon is the third movie made but it was the first book ! The order of the books is red dragon , silence of the lambs and Hannibal . The order they made the movies with silence of the lambs Hannibal red dragon . So you’re actually watching the first book that happened before silence of the lambs
True story about the book this movie was from --- I went back home to visit my dad & he had just read this book & recommended it. I was on vacation so I said why not. I started reading it, a couple hours pass, by the time the sun started to set I realized I was in a hell of a predicament. I was terrified. I mean, completely frozen with fear terrified. And the closest light switch was at the end of a long hallway. It's getting darker and darker, and this damn book made me too scared to walk down the long hall to turn on the light. And then the darkness started making me more afraid. That was the first time a story ever scared the sh*t out of me. So it's been a lot of fun watching you react to Red Dragon. Third lesson to be learned from this movie, J (if people didn't already learn it). Stay STRAPPED or get CLAPPED. FBI boy Will had his off-duty piece put up in a closet, where it took him valuable reaction time to get to it.
I rarely ever talk about my first job out of college, i worked medical forensics for 4 years until i burned out and went to grad school to get away. It does become a guilty hunger pleasure when your deep in new case and see it play out. It took a toll on me and my relationship and i had to find a way to walk away.
Years ago, when my husband was still driving a truck over the road, he called me one night and told me he’d had a “suck your seat up your asshole kind of day in la traffic”. We are from rural ok. I died laughing.
There are four Hannibal movies. First one is Hannibal Rising first movie describes Hannibal 's past. Hannibal is a Lithuanian count's son. The family was murdered during WWII by the Russian conqueors, Russians also ate his little sister. Hannibal was the only survivor and he escaped to France where he lived with his aunt and he studied medicine. The second movie is The Red Dragon. Hannibal has now graduated as a psychiatrist and cooperates with the police. The Thrid movie is Silence of The Lambs. And the fourth movie is Hannibal. In this film Hannibal returns to help Clarissa. The end of this movie has been changed though, according to the book Hannibal. Clarissa and Hannibal fall in love and they escape together. Later Barny. The black jail nurse happen to see them living together as a married couple in South America. Although the Hannibal movie is brutal it is my favourite of Hannibal Lecter movie series
Ridley Scott's Hannibal movie is worth your time. I think it (and the book it's based on) gets a bad rap mainly because it's not a structured procedural like Red Dragon and Silence of the Lambs. Nor should it be.
Hey J I can not believe I am watching this here in 2024 . I am still finding your older reactions as I am trying to keep up with the newer ones lol. I am with you J if I survive a creature like Hannibal like Ed Norton did there is Nothing that anyone would be able to guilt me into to leave retirement..... Not one thing. I would have seen and survived enough to last two life times . Oh! I do give Ed Norton's wife Props for not being a "typical" scared wife and actually shooting the creature that tried to kill her husband 😎 She is a bad chic 💯 Thank you for your reactions and comments here
Lecter has a photographic memory. Imagine what you could accomplish in life if you were blessed to have that. I don't think being successful and making money would be much of a problem at all. Unfortunately, if you are crazy as well, that becomes easier too.
14:19 Actually that’s exactly how those phones worked. When I was a teenager in the 80’s my b*tch stepmother used to put a small lock on the dialing wheel to stop me from using it, so I’d use that method, you tap very quickly (so you don’t hang up the call) the same number of times as the phone number you need to contact and you make a very brief pause (half a sec maybe) between numbers and voilà. So for example 305 would be 3 taps + brief pause + 10 taps for the 0 + brief pause + 5 taps and so on.
If you want to see a mostly forgotten movie produced by Steven Spielberg (Indiana Jones) and directed by Chris Columbus (Harry Potter and the Philosopher Stone/Chamber of Secrets) watch "Young Sherlock Holmes" it's basically like if you combined Sherlock Holmes, Harry Potter, and Indiana Jones into a kid adventure movie; the opening of that movie is so goddamn unexpected that you wouldn't guess what happens, all I can say is it was so random it scared the shit out of me as a kid because it came out of nowhere.
New to your channel, watched a few reactions and really enjoy your funny AF commentary. I do the same thing, I really enjoy that you watch thrillers and horror. Those are my fav genres.

It does become a guilty hunger pleasure when your deep in new case and see it play out. It took a toll on me and my relationship and i had to find a way to walk away.
My love and puppies! You need to watch the TV show Hannibal with Madds Mickelson as Hannibal! It's absolutely incredible!
Enjoyed both of these Lecter reactions a lot. Just wait until you see Hannibal...
Years ago, when my husband was still driving a truck over the road, he called me one night and told me he’d had a “suck your seat up your asshole kind of day in la traffic”. We are from rural ok. I died laughing.
Nice!
Please complete the trilogy and watch Hannibal.
We’re definitely doing it sometime relatively soon.
I hope you'll react to Hannibal (2001) next, and the tv-series after that. And maybe Hannibal Rising (2007), I guess?
Lol you didn’t sound too sure about Hannibal Rising
I love the I every time you yell your puppies get up and stare at you like men quit waking me up😁
There are four Hannibal movies.
When are you going to do Hannibal (2001) ?
Ridley Scott's Hannibal movie is worth your time. I think it (and the book it's based on) gets a bad rap mainly because it's not a structured procedural like Red Dragon and Silence of the Lambs. Nor should it be.
Oh I’m definitely going to watch Hannibal
the Hannibal TV series was 🔥
Lol, i love it when he disses 'Old Navy'
20:53 “Oh my god. You better open your f*cking eyes.” 😂
This is my first time watching this and my jaw stayed dropping. Great video much love
Oh! I do give Ed Norton's wife Props for not being a "typical" scared wife and actually shooting the creature that tried to kill her husband 😎 She is a bad chic 💯
Thank you for your reactions and comments here
That telephone trick works with landlines even nowadays. 1 tap for zero and then work up from there. 9 is 10 taps.
That is wild
So when the Predator is doing that clicking sound, he's actually trying to phone home. ;)
Great movie another great performance by Ed norton
Hannibal Rising explains everything. A must watch ✌️ ❤️ 🇬🇧
I’m definitely going to check it out
Lecter has a photographic memory. Imagine what you could accomplish in life if you were blessed to have that. I don't think being successful and making money would be much of a problem at all. Unfortunately, if you are crazy as well, that becomes easier too.
Dude, I swear…You got the COOLEST dogs!! No doubt man’s best friends right there!!! ❤️
That was an awesome back tattoo.
Facts
Loved it!! You had me dying laughing despite the movie! Onto jaws now haha!!😁

New to your channel, watched a few reactions and really enjoy your funny AF commentary. I do the same thing, I really enjoy that you watch thrillers and horror. Those are my fav genres.
