4:25 - Correction. Secret of Mana is Seiken Densetsu 2. Seiken Densetsu 3 is what some people called Secret of Mana 2 as part of fan translations, but now officially it's Trials of Mana with the recent remake, as well as part of the official translated compilation that came out a few years ago.
It's amazing that you stopped by Nintendo's HQ while you were in Kyoto. Not to mention the Fushimi Inari-taisha shrine as well, which (fun fact) was a massive inspiration behind the Star Fox series by Nintendo. The kitsune statues guarding the shrine inspired the series' protagonist Fox McCloud, while the ten thousand torii inspired the space runway/gate that you take off from and land in.
@@MachoNachoProductions FYI, PC Engine was one of biggest consuls of the 8bit/16bit era in Japan. So if that one was an early edition and mint/unopened, it might explain its high price. It was still too expensive, but then you could understand why the owner was trying to mark it up.
I totally remember Tower Records! I really enjoy seeing the sites of Japan in the video and I really like how to compiled everything. I think it's great you met up with Scruffy and The Retro Future is another great channel. It's funny how in our retro space a lot of us have heard of each other.
Why do I feel like you and Elliot from The Retro Future went together on a trip to Japan? 😅 Maybe just a coincidence. But yeah, I wished they released that gameboy pocket outside of Japan.
Well sendico did sponsor both their trips. So even if they aren't friends and they didn't technically go together, they probably were at the same places since sendico set it all up.
I've been waiting for this Kyoto video and it didn't disappoint! Thanks for taking us along again. Wow, that Imagineer GBP would have been in my bag in the blink of an eye!! Looking forward to the Tokyo vid. Cheers again!
Thank you! So glad you enjoyed this video! 🙏 totally agree, the imagineer pocket was an incredible find! Really hope you enjoy the Tokyo video when it goes live! Cheers!
Hi Tito! I ended up buying the Mega Drive Ghouls and Ghosts copy (timestamp 11:51 on your video) from the book-off in Kyoto! Next to the turtles return of shredder copy that was too expensive 😂😂 Great to have it on video also!😊
Nice video. What a coincidence, I am on my last day in Japan. Did not check for games in Kyoto, too busy with the sightseeing. Osaka was great, priced were very and better than what I saw in Tokyo today.
watching these videos gets me excited, going to be in Nagoya/ Suzuka in a few weeks as my first trip to Japan and Ill be definitely be game hunting. A CIB Char Gamecube and matching GBA SP are my goals.
my wife and i hit most of these major landmarks on our honeymoon in japan in 2019. best trip ever. jealous you hit all these game shops! i had to suffice with odaiba island in tokyo for my gundam fix.
I'm just going to say that's crazy! I was just in Kyoto during the start of June and I went to Surugaya Ebisunocho and I almost bought that Mother3 GBA Micro unit. But I did pick up a GBA SP Famicom, a complete in box Famicom GBA Micro and several other great finds. I even had the same shop attendant help me with my tax free processing! Wonderful store and glad you found it as well.
I took a pic in front of NOA headquarters in Redmond a few years ago (pretty funny that Nintendo and Microsoft are right across the street from each other actually)...would love to visit Japan and get a pic from over there.
I gotta say, I love these videos Nacho. My favorite thing in the world is going to places like this and looking at retro games and consoles. Keep these up, made my day.
Great job filming... I felt like I visited Japan too! So much history on that little island country. So much gaming goodness. Analogue just announced that same color design on the Pocket today 😂
Looks like you had a real nice trip. My favorite game boy pocket is still the variant with the DMG colors. For some reason the classic colors with the more sleek look really tickles me.
Damn, I miss Tower Records and music stores in general. Very jealous of your awesome trip to Japan, so glad you got to make it, and thank you for sharing. I still dream of making my way there one day, family responsibilities permitting.
I'd love to visit japan! It's like the only one place my whole family would agree on. All three of the kids love gaming and anime as do my SO and I. We are all sushi fanatics too lol.
Another great video man. Love the cinematography. Look like you guys enjoyed Kyoto and there definitely were some amazing hidden gems down there. Ive been to Kyoto many times but never thought to visit the Nintendo building good work.
Asahi was my father's favourite beer. He even left a few bottles behind when he passed away. I even bought him some when I was in Tokyo a decade ago. That is how he began to like it in the first place.
We still have a Tower Records here in Ireland. It's a fairly decent store here. I still like going there from time to time for 4K movies, even though it specialises in vinyl.
Sendico was able to send a lot of you TH-camrs out there :) That hotel looked great. I'd like a Dino greeter. I've also seen they have bars with dancing robots, I'd like to visit one of those someday.
Tower Records!!!! Hell yes, we had one in Chicago when I was a kid in the 80's. Only went there a couple of times, but they used to have all the big groups coming through the area doing apperances and album signings and stuff. Had a buddy wait in line for hours one time to get his copy of Master of Puppets signed.I do remember that place being gigantic, though.
11:20 ugh. I saw both Thunder Force 3, maybe 4, and ESWAT this weekend at the CT retro game expo at a fair price and almost picked them up. I told myself I wasn't spending any more money, kinda wish I got at least one of them. I guess I missed Nacho & Retro Rick there unfortunately, they were nowhere in sight when I was there. Admittedly it was rather late in the weekend so I can't say much to that point.
Love me some Tower Records! I miss that store so much but not the high prices 😂. I’m actually going to JPN for work in a few weeks and hope to retrace all these spots on the trip. Cheers!
I'm about to go to Osaka. Do you think you could give me some pointers which are the cheapest or better places to buy retro stuff? Thank you and as always, Great vid!!
If you can, make you're way out of major cities. In my Tokyo video I got to places just outside of Tokyo. Even in touristy places like Super Potato, you can still find some good deals. Hard Offs are also great places to look at
@@MachoNachoProductions Thank you very much!!! I will for sure visit the same places you've showed in your videos and i will see if i can go a bit out of the way to close cities and check those outs too! Thank you!!!!

So glad you’re enjoying the series! I definitely want to make my way back soon! There was a tower records i Annapolis that me and my friends would hang out back in the day. Good times!
congrats on getting to make the trip. i lived in country for 2 years. my best advice to you is to make sure you leave plenty of time to be in tokyo because it's vast. super potato and the sega arcade are pretty life changing, but make sure you get some of the night life and the cultural stuff, too. oh, and make sure to eat all the street food (man, now i'm jealous). have a great trip
As a matter of interest, are the Hard Off stores affiliated with the Book Off stores or is it just a pure coincidence? And as Sendico provided the means for your trip, did they ask you and Retro Future to visit different stores?
Elliot Coll also recently went to Japan, did you guys went at the same time? Would have been cool to see a collab of 2 of my favo utubers tbh ;) Bet you 2 can talk about Game Boys all day xD
Every major store chain globally should study how Japanese stores use floorspace to their maximum. I live in Australia and they stock stores here like it's a movie set, so much wasted space devoted to one low volume product. As a result variety really s*cks and I commonly have to bounce between 2 different supermarket chains to get one moderate shopping list done.
$40 for a boxed n64 Biohazard 2 is pre-pandemic price... you'll never see that price again. And since you shared the names of every store.. guaranteed deals will dry up soon. In a couple years Japanese game hunting will soon be just as expensive as in the US because of social media.
There will always be the obstacle of having to know how to read Japanese, especially for RPGs. And while it's cool to just own a few games, theres not a lot of enjoyment unless you can actually play them. That's left pacing relatively low for quite some time.

You should have gone and paid your respects at the site of the Kyoto Animation arson fire. If I ever go to Japan this will be one of my MUST DOs.
That gameboy is pretty cool. I’d consider getting it if I was some game boy fanatic

tower records was awesome. They, like many other companies i have fond memories of are now just hallow shells of what they used to be.

Some dudes go there to see geishas, other dudes go for the videogames :D
Hey , I have a question please... did the gameboy pal games run at 50fps or 60fps on a gameboy console ?
Tower Records ++ so many finds I still have after all these years.

Tower...Records??? Now _that_ is a name I've not heard in a long time...
Was in Tokyo for July loved Japan but no real pick ups due to tourists
