    I see what you're doing. I'm glad you're being highly critical of Legends that barely meet standards. It might send a message to Hasbro that we as collectors demand more. At $24.99 this figure barely hits the mark, but he hits it. Which is why I didn't cancel my order for him, but I'll tell you what though... I canceled a whole bunch of my other preorders. If Hasbro wants my money they're going to have to work for it 😄

    For characters like Phoenix, I don't think a raised emblem works because of how large an area it covers (her chest down to her abs). Raised emblems work more for smaller emblems that only cover a small area--like the FF "4"s or the GL insignia IMO.

  • @Fuzzy_Barbarian
    @Fuzzy_Barbarian ปีที่แล้ว +3

    When it comes to raised symbols and stuff, I'm usually for it for most designs. Always when it comes to things like boots and gloves.
    For classic looks, sure they looked painted on... but when those same costumes are drawn in modern comics, they sometimes aren't. So it feels like a limitation of the time, which is no longer the case. Companies shouldn't use it as a crutch to justify being lazy. There are some noticeable exceptions, like Superman and Batman's symbols varying on how much they protrude, if at all, and Barry Allen's classic Flash suit having the symbol firmly as part of the fabric (it was just compressed material, after all), but usually, they're raised now. As toys, they usually just look better when raised.

    Like someone else mentioned, the average Marvel Legends doesn't usually have an extra head anymore. Retro Spider-Man wave had no extra heads, Bonebreaker wave just had one (Wolverine), Controller Wave just had one (Maria Hill), X-Men retro wave, two out of six. Recent movie waves: Thor Love and Thunder had one, Doctor Strange Multiverse had zero, Wakanda Forever wave had zero. My point is that unfortunately the extra head which should be standard is the exception rather than the rule.
    That being said, I have the Longshot in hand, and it's a pretty good figure with a new decent sculpt, pinless articulations, good enough head, little extra touches of paints (which they could have skipped knowing Hasbro) and five accessories (counting the removable chest belt with all the knives). In your scale, I would put him above average with a rating of 6 or maybe 6.5. You made valid points all around in your review, but once again, I was a bit surprised by the final grade which didn't quite seem to reflect all the positive things you said about the figure.
    To answer your question of the day, I'd be all for sculpted and/or raised emblems, gloves, boots, everything, not just painted-on. Painted-on bugs me more with gloves and boots. Thanks for the review, I enjoyed watching it!

    2:51 - 4:10 I have seen lots of collectors commenting on how Hasbro has diminished what you get with Marvel Legends, and you make excellent points on how it shows up. Being cheep and stingy with things like accessories, additional heads and hands, leaving out effects are not good ways to compete with other lines or retain consumer interest. Hope Marvel Legends can improve on this some, soon. I have liked Longshot from his beginning, including his design. I wanted to have a reason to get this from Hasbro. But with so little added value from extras and the almost missing "glowing eye effect" the current retail price is a bit too high for me.
    Thank you for the entertaining review Dave! Keep up the good work.

    Hey Dave. As far as the raised emblems I generally like them painted on if that’s how they were in the books. Not because it’s 2d comic art but because it was represented as just printed on spandex. Now Longshots Star being raised I think is cool because it’s on a leather jacket so maybe it’s a sewn on patch or something.

  • @TheMattTrakker
    @TheMattTrakker ปีที่แล้ว

    Isn't the sculpting for him what they were showing for the haslab ghost rider? I guess you could say it's original to longshot and GR would have been stealing it from him.
    Putting a wash on characters isn't hard and I can't imagine that it's too expensive for Hasbro to do, but it makes such a big difference. Put a wash on his hair (probably could use a dry brush too, since it looks like the color of that plastic is off) so it looks less like he's wearing a wig and on some/all of his brown straps and I'm sure it makes this figure look significantly better. I want to know how much extra /figure that'd actually cost Hasbro.

They just reminded me of my early childhood and with all the technology and advancements you would think 30 years later they would put a little more work + details into the figures. You can look at another higher end figure and say that's for an adult collector but this figure looks more of a child's toy I guess you could say. Maybe a little cheaper quality? I think more diamond select, mezco, etc are more geared to adult collectors. I'm just saying at this point in my life legends is more little kid-ish. And there is nothing wrong with that or wanting to collect them but at the end of the day that's what I meant. Kind of like funko pops are more or less kid toys to me but anybody can obviously collect them.

    @shanehai2699 ปีที่แล้ว

    Dave... I think your idea of an "average" rating is fine in general, but executes at a good bit below what average should be... based on your own criteria and commentary, over several figures since you began the rating thing, you're seriously punishing figures in 3-D plastic forms that are actually extremely accurate to their comic book designs, because of this boring thing or that "something" that Hasbro didn't do to "make it better" somehow, like Havok, for example, and now Longshot... Personally, I don't really think that it's a fair and even assessment of a figure, if you're constantly counting off points for how the design translates into a 3-dimensional figure.
    That said, I do have my own issues with this figure's finished look, because it's not as accurate to the CHARACTER... 1) His face should be slightly more cheerful than this sculpt, because he's a pure & lighthearted character (part of why/how his "luck" power works), 2) his body type should be more like Miles Morales Spider-Man, for his agility and his slimmer, smaller frame (he has hollow bones and is not a big "athletic" looking guy like Havok or Cyclops), 3) the glowing eye effect COULD have been done like Cable's eye, but at least this version is actually painted on, unlike the boxed set version (which also doesn't even include his satchel), and 4) I would have liked to have seen his boots with a gloss black paint applied, to accent the regular black of his costume and jacket...
    Nonetheless, a 5 is below average for this guy, and there's literally NOTHING more they could have done to make it a 10, going from your "5 is average" system, not even an extra head and addressing my issues would push the figure that far up the scale... So, I disagree with you on that rating and say that he's actually a 7 minimum, if for no other reason than he's at least 85-90% accurate to the character in the comics, has additional paint apps for his luck power, a raised sculpt on his chest (which you're forever complaining about other "average" or higher figures NOT having...), AND this version actually DOES include his satchel, whereas the boxed set version does not...! THIS guy is a 7, the other version might be a 5-5.5 because of a lack of everything this guy actually does have going for him.
    Just saying, you need to reevaluate your rating system significantly, or drop it and go back to just having fun with what the figures are or aren't... I understand what you're going for, and why you chose 5 as the average, but it's really not the average, I mean, in school the average is 65 of 100, so 6.5-7 should be the average, because below average is pretty common with Marvel Legends and a 10 is damn rare.
    Anyway, something to consider, especially given character accurate costumes like Havok and Longshot, that you consistently punish as being "plain"... WTF else are they going to do with them... just never make those guys?! Come on. Be fair to the designs of the characters... Every stitch or line can't be detailed on these guys, you know that... well I mean, they COULD... But then we'd get fewer of the characters we want and they'd raise prices through the roof, JUST because of sculpted elements necessitating separate molds, many of which would be a one time use, which they'll only rarely do, when there's no chance to use a short-cut and cheap out... it's HASBRO, NOT NECA OR WHATEVER...
    Otherwise, a good review, but you should have compared to the boxed set version before rating him so far down. 😉

    • @DisplayingModelBehaviour

      Thanks for watching but my ratings scale is very different to others. 5/10 is only a fail if you take it like a test where it is very possible to get 10/10. That's not the case with opinion based reviews. It's impossible for something to be a perfect 10/10. I think reviews in general have skewed what average is considered. By my scale average is 'What's in the middle'. So what's in the middle of 0 and 10? 5.
