    Nothing more exciting than catching walleye just after ice off and put the smaller ones in the frying pan and returning the big ones to spawn.

    Thanks for the tip on leaving a bit of a tag end on the Palomar to help hold the half-crawler. Great idea. Also thanks for the explanation why the tail end of the crawler is better.

    If you plan to fish Sakakawea, check out Indian Hills or the new motel in Garrison. We didn't stay at Dakota Waters and in no way endorse them but we used the boat ramp at their location and that is why there is a shot at the end of the video. Sakakawea has been a lot of fun the past few years.

    Release bail lock to slowly lower bouncer to bottom. No more line than is necessary to maintain bottom contact. Use heavier bouncer to keep it as close to back of boat as possible. Increase hits by 300 percent

    Do you ever use a two hook harness set-up with beads? Also, how do you troll with a minnow in small freshwater lakes such as in Montana or North Dakota? We always use the two hook harness, but I'm looking to try something new this spring.

    • @JasonMitchellOutdoors
      @JasonMitchellOutdoors  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Timberlee We do use Crawler Harnesses with two hooks and use a whole crawler or soft plastic tail a lot typically a little later in the summer when the water warms up or when we feel the need to fish faster to cover more water. We often fish minnows much more slowly and often use just a plain rig and let the minnow do the work where as we fish crawlers much faster. Good luck!

    Do you feed line when yo feel a bite. If so, how do you rig te bouncer to allow line travel?

    • @JasonMitchellOutdoors
      @JasonMitchellOutdoors  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Later in the year, I often have better luck dragging the fish until the rod loads up versus feeding. If you do need to feed line, use a Northland Tackle Slick Stick and run the line through to a swivel just like a live bait rig.

    Learn how to target Walleye seasonally. They are one of the pickiest fish when it comes to temperature and structure. The reason you aren't catching them is because you are not in the right spot for that time of year. If you are watching people catch them just 20 yards away it is because they are fishing at a different depth even if the structure is similar. It could be just 5 feet but that is enough for Walleye.

    If you have always wanted to visit Montana and specifically southwest Montana the perfect fishing opportunity exists. Our resort is the perfect place to stay if you plan on coming out and fishing without a fishing guide or outfitter, or you can work with our full service fishing outfitter for some of the best fishing in the lower 48.
    We offer simple packages of just overnight, several days stays, with or without full breakfast/box lunches/full dinner or perhaps all inclusive fish guiding if you wish.
    Rock Creek has trophy trout, Flint Creek is excellent fishing both located less than 5 minutes away. Boulder Creek actually cuts through the resort.

    So what makes a difference with a longer spinner line? I'm using a 1' spinner line,not very long is it. You guys use 3 to 6feet line from the bouncer to the spinner.

    • @JasonMitchellOutdoors
      @JasonMitchellOutdoors  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      You want it short enough to stay out of the debris but often the fish seem to prefer the longer snell. Three to six feet is about average for us but we will go longer if there is a lot of mud clouding up the presentation or if the fish are real finicky. We often go to really short shells on rivers or in heavier weeds.

    Where do you think walleyes are in the spring when the temperature is 50 degrees Fahrenheit.

    • @JasonMitchellOutdoors
      @JasonMitchellOutdoors  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      We focus on rivers and bottleneck area with current and also look at the water temperature which is relative. Look for shallow protected bays with the warmest water. Every fishery and every ecosystem is different so there are very few things that work across the board everywhere.

    YOUR TAKING THEM ALL THE WAY OUT OF THE WATER, HANDLING THEM FISH WITH DRY HANDS && THEN TURNING THEM LOOSE. YOU DON'T KNOW YOUR DRY HANDS CAUSE INFECTION IN THE SCALES OF THE FISH EVENTUALLY DIE FROM THE INFECTION?? 0UT HERE IN THE PNW it is not legal to take fish out of the water with wet hands or a wet rag to hold em with for returning them.
