  • Finidi George, former Super Eagles coach, has been officially announced as the new head coach of Rivers United. The 54-year-old takes over following Stanley Eguma’s departure towards the end of last season.
After parting ways with the Super Eagles due to a disappointing World Cup qualifying campaign, Finidi is set to lead Rivers United back to the top of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL). He has signed a two-year contract with the club and is committed to achieving success.
At his unveiling, Finidi stated, “My job with the Super Eagles did not work out, I have to move on and impact our league here. For a good team like Rivers, it’s all about winning, which we will try to do. We all know football is not easy, we all want results, and we have to work towards it.”
Rivers United’s General Manager, Dr. Okey Kpalukwu, expressed his excitement over Finidi’s appointment, describing it as a new chapter for the club. “We are delighted to have Finidi George join our team. His appointment marks a new chapter in our club’s history, and we are committed to working together to achieve success,” he said.
Finidi also conveyed his gratitude to the club, saying, “I am honored to have this opportunity, and I thank the Sports Commissioner, the General Manager, and the supporters for their confidence in me. I am committed to working hard and making the team win.”
Before his national team role, Finidi coached Enyimba International, winning the NPFL title in his second season. He now aims to replicate that success with Rivers United, who finished eighth last season, 17 points behind the champions Rangers FC. #npfl #finidigeorge #riversunited #enyimba #rangersfc #enuguranchers #supereagles #nff #worldcupqualifier #southafrica #bafanabafana #beninrepublic #football #nigeriafootball
