Look at this scenario ; in Acts Chapter 2, the apostles receive the Holy Ghost and they start uttering in new tongues which men from different walks of life could understand. What they spoke were heavenly mysteries revealed to them through the Spirit. In case the situation could have remained the same ; only the disciples could have been edified but on the contrary, we see Peter going ahead to give an interpretation of the heavenly mysteries and the result, 3000 souls get converted.

As i read 1 Cor 14 ...The sole objective of speaking in an unknown tongue is for the edification of the church and that is why Paul emphasizes the need of an intepreter...most of the people who speak in "tongues" or "glossolalia" today hardly intepret what they speak...again i ask, who benefits? In the same chapter i ask; which tongue is Paul talking about; the language of angels or the tongue of men?

Thank you pastor for the lesson.. You started your definition of speaking in tongues very well but I got lost on the way when you started talking about tongues of angels and mystery languages.. My question is; who benefits when we speak the tongues of angels or mysterious tongues that no man can comprehend while we all know that speaking in tongues is a gift for the edification of the church and enhancement of the gospel.. Secondly; why didn't the apostles speak the tongues of angels or mysterious tongues from the moment they received the holy ghost on the day of Pentecost. We only see on later verses where Paul speaks about tongues of angels and mysterious tongues.. Are you sure the verses are connected or talking about the same thing?
Speaking in tongues is simply the Holy Spirit through our vocal cords to God, the perfect prayer to God.
Speaking in unknown tongues edifies the speaker. These prayers are supernatural and we are also praying for others and other events. Remember the gift of INTERPRETATION is supernatural and is NOT TRANSLATION. Both the interpretation and speaking in unknown are supernatural and by pass the human mind that's why it does not make sense to men.

Don't you think it was timely for God to initiate this Gift to the apostles for the enhancement of the Gospel to all believers all over the world? Don't you think it is also necessary for christians of today receive the gift of unknown tongues for the same purpose i.e spreading the gospel all over the world? thinking of the remote corners of this world who have not yet received the gospel?

something came as I watch the discussion, if part of speaking in tongues is when you speak in tongues of men, why would you think that you are not speaking in tongues when you are able to speak to God in more than one language, like Swahili, English and your mother tongue. Not everyone can do that!!!

To be honest I think you guys have misinterpreted 1st corinth 13. If you hold scripture objectively to simply ask what does it mean rathan what does it mean to me utarealize hio interpretation iko nje. When Paul anasema tongues of angels ama kutumia word kama mysteries in the spirit, hizo si grounds za kusema ati msee anweza bonga mysteries in the spirit ama kubonga tongues of angels. Kitu ingine ni ati tunajua tongues zina purpose. The way zinatumika in modern times kwa church sanasana Charismatic churches tunajua ni uwongo na hio si purpose yake. Hata Paul atagree. Hio angle mnachukua manzee iko na errors zenye kama mmefanya hermeneutics utaziona tu evidently.

@@ImbiruOmondi scripture interpretation is not unique to a personal revelation. That is why there is so much chaos in Church today in the name of personal revelations. If the Scriptures says do not kill then we must take that as final and infalliable . We should not kill. One God, One Holy Spirit illuminating the Scripture to all in perfect harmony. One of the rules of Scriptures interpretation in Hermaneutics is that we don't miyopically ask what does this text mean to me but rather with humility ask what does this mean. We must always submit to scripture and its original intended meaning by the author that is God. Not personal revelations. Personal revelations are the sources of most heresies today. People are not satisfied with simple biblical truths. The want more than what is in the bible. Twisting scriptures to feed their depraved desires. The Scripture does not submit to us. We submit to scripture. The scripture is sufficient in every way.

I know for sure The Holy Spirit bears witness to the testimony of the Scripture and affirms it even as Scripture bears witness to The Person of the Holy Spirit and affirms Him. Does the one speaking in tongue understand the words expressed by the Holy Spirit through them or it needs another person with the gift of interpretation?
1 cor 14:5 I desire all of you would speak in tongues BUT I would rather you prophecy. The one who prophecies is GREATER THAN the one who speaks in tongues
I believe all who confess and are born again, the Holy Spirit finds a dwelling in their hearts. So, much as God says He will fulfil our heart desires, our desires have to be in line with His will. Therefore, if you don't get the power to speak in tongues, that same Holy Spirit will give you another gift according to His will for God's Glory.

Nowadays, pastor are on pulpit speaking in tongues without interpreters. There is also the same pattern of utterrance ever since I've heard these pastor speak.
Therefore there's utter ignorance of the guidelines given by Paul.
You guys are interpreting the bible to suit your beliefs. Your explanation is far fetched. If you read history & the bible you will understand that what you're practicing in the name of speaking in tongues is known as "Glossolalia"; a pagan practice that was there even before Christianity & Jesus condemned it in Matt 6:7

@@DJRUFFTV The tongues were languages that could be understood by a section of the congregation even without an interpreter, but probably not popular in that particular region, just like what happened on Pentecost day. But what we have today is "Glossolalia" (please read more about this chapter on your own time) and my guess is that it was sneaked into church by Christianity entrepreneurs (will explain later if needed ). Glossolalia was and is believed to be a language of gods & angels in modern & ancient paganism, sorcery & witchcraft (also more on this later). The bible is neither a novel nor a history book for you to just read one verse and sit back. Read the entire chapter of 1 corinthians 14 from start to finish & see what Saint Paul says about this topic
