    I have the M18 and the M12 fuel ones. The M12 is my go to almost every time unless I need to do demo. Even then it's still a tiny little workhorse. Absolutely love the M12.

    I have the Bosch and I have to say that I agree with everything you said about it. It is LOUD, but even that was not the worse. The whole point of Starlock was to be quick-changing - and the 18V is definitely good at that - but to pay premium for Starlock blades and need a wrench to change it?!? And no storage on board? Seriously Bosch? The only redeming thing about it is that I got two free 12-V batteries with it, and I have a second tool other than my 18v, for a second location. Oh, yeah, even the 18v is VERY loud, and also it is not very nice to hold in the hand.

    I like a slide switch on a multitool because I tend to hold them in weird positions that makes it hard to keep your finger on the trigger. It's nice to be able to just dial in the speed, hit go, and then only have to focus on my cut.

    • @TinkerWithTools
      @TinkerWithTools  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I tend to agree with up until I was using to the DEWALT to cut and noticed how it was nice that it wasn’t always on while i was making the cut. But given how you said you use it, the trigger would be inconvenient

    Great review sir. I've had many OMTs over the years and settled on DeWalt 20v for 99% of applications and the M12 fuel for demolition. The longer occilating range of the M12, lack of variable speed trigger, not-so-quick blade change, and need to remove and replace sanding triangles to switch back and forth, are all cons when doing finish work. The M12 definitely has the least vibration and fastest cut speed, but it's just not great for the fine work. The Dewalt quick change lever also hooks onto your toolbelt which is an unintented but very nice feature. I can't speak for the durability of the M12 but my Dewalts have seen miles of cuts over 5-7 years with no issues.

    • @hochhaul
      @hochhaul 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Same here. The tool-less blade change and variable speed trigger are why I typically go for the DeWalt 20v over the M18 version when I'm working.

  • @hochhaul
    @hochhaul 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I use the 20V version of the Milwaukee and DeWalt tools regularly. Hands down the DeWalt 20V beats the M18 version. The tool-less blade change is a huge plus, as is the variable speed trigger, vs the M18's blade attachment system and on/off trigger. The Milwaukee's biggest advantage is less vibration but that's not a surprise because it's heavier than most other oscillating multi-tools.

  • @loucifer4205

    The dewalt 12v is the fastest cutting of the three. It uses trigger control way better than switch and the blade change by far

      The trigger control and blade change I will give you but I didn’t find it to be faster at cutting. It was actually the slowest in my testing. It still got the job done but it was noticeably less powerful than the Milwaukee and even the Bosch

      Shameless plug here for the guys over at the "Confident Home Solutions" channel - they too did a good head-to-head video between these two tools - back in January, i think. Both are awesome tools in my experience - the Dewalt is lighter, smaller, has more convenient blade position adjustment, and is less expensive; the Milwaukee is smoother-feeling, and can be locked into intermediate speeds - can't go badly wrong with either IMO

    • @TinkerWithTools

      I probably could’ve phrased it better but as it compares to the other tools featured it is still the best. I have heard good things about the fine but that’s been more 18v version. As this was a video about 12v OMT I am not considering the 18v competition as that would be another video for different models of the tools. • @engineer_alv
    @engineer_alv 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I own the M12 Fuel and used to own the OG brushed M12 and for a brief time the DeWalt Atomic.
    That M12 Fuel is no joke, it's got so much power for being a 12V but it's sized and weights more like an 18V. It's vibration dampening system is also really good and I felt it was a bit faster than the Atomic.
    One thing I didn't like about the Atomic (and would apply for the 12V as well) is that you can only lock it in high speed therefore it wouldn't be the most suitable tool for things like detail sanding where would you prefer a lower speed setting and holding the trigger would make it a bit tiresome. That's the main reason I returned it.
    Also the blade change system is clever as long as you don't use a closed loop attachment; I used to have one and required a screw adapter and hex key.
    Out of these the choice is simple: M12 Fuel is way better than the other two.
    The fact that the Xtreme is underpowered (makes me believe it's going to be at M12 brushed levels), the very limited lineup (the smallest of all three) and the cons I also mentioned for the Atomic are just too much and would make for a no go.
    The Bosch has a bigger lineup, it performs better, lighter and has variable speed dial. That blade change system reminds me of the M12 brushed and I could live with it. Missing LED is a bummer, though. It would make for a distant pick #2 although if the Skil was part of the comparison it would take its place. It just seems to bring 80%-90% of the Milwaukee feature set and performance for 40%-50% of the cost

    • @TinkerWithTools
      @TinkerWithTools  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Most of the attachments I use come from Milwaukee, they all pretty much have the open end that works with the Dewalt well. I used to go to this tool for small sanding tasks but over the last few months, I have turned to the M12 sander that they released this year or last and that things is incredible.
      Skil nearly made it in the comparison but there just wasn't sufficient budget after getting blades and things for the different dools. It seems nice and seems to have the best in class light. Might have to pick it up soon.

      @@TinkerWithToolsI have heard really good things about the vibration of the Makita. I can’t justify $220 when it doesn’t even have the nifty “blade snaps right in” Starlock design.
      I have the Kobalt 24v. It’s quite low vibration. It makes me wonder if I should look at the Flex. It has the proper Starlock system and a nice LED. Fein doesn’t have an LED On theirs.

    • @TinkerWithTools

    • @gf2e
      @gf2e 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@TinkerWithTools Yeah. I’ve got two: the $99 Kobalt gen2, and a ~2014 year corded MultiMaster. I used an M12 Fuel for one project.
      The tool change on the M12 annoyed me because I had to unscrew it a bit. But most of my blades were old school Fein which are closed at the end. I think the open ended blades might be able to slide on without unscrewing the M12 center pin?
      The Kobalt is similar to the M12 mechanism except you press and rotate the center pin to remove it. But I have bought a lot of new blades with open backs, and that means that I don’t need to remove the center pin.
      I have really really gotten addicted to the trigger. Kobalt has three top speed settings and a trigger. It lets me adjust my hands and think before pulling the trigger. Feels more relaxed than having to turn it on and then start cutting.
      Noise and vibration on the Kobalt are quite decent. Can’t speak to power because I haven’t been using it that way.
      The StarLock “blades drop out” just seems so nifty. But then I think about the ~dozen different shapes of scrapers that I have, and how expensive they’d be in StarLock. And I’m pretty sure you can’t even get all of them in StarLock.
      Flex is what my next one will be. Chervon makes both Flex and Kobalt, so I assume the Flex vibration will be as good or better than Kobalt.
      A 12v MultiMaster tempts me but the lack of LED is a deal breaker! The last M12 project I did involved cutting out some stuff in recessed parts of my RV. The corded Fein required me to have a separate light I kept repositioning.

    • @TinkerWithTools

      It likely simply has to do with it being a bit more powerful than the other two. At the end of the day they all run on the same relative size of batteries. I recommend the M12 for people that want a nice OMT but don't necessarily need the full power of the M18. But if you are running it for long periods of time the M18 seems to be a better fit maybe.
