Yeah those things were solid made cars, I had a 2005 AWD with CVT and I'm not calling Ford liars but they pretty much lied about the specs on that car or I may have just had a heavy foot lol. The CVT never gave a single problem but my 2006 six speed have me a little bit of a transmission slip so I replaced it
I'm use to the Ford, Mercury & Lincolns of the past. The ride that the Taurus & the 500 reminds me of the ride of my Cartier back in the 80s. I've always been a Ford man, but still love my Caddy rides always. Both of them I 💘
I'm thinking about buying a Ford 500 that has 90,000 miles on it. This video was extremely helpful in getting to know the car. Ford 500s have been very underrated, in my opinion. Thank you very much for this video.
Right on and glad to help! yes I actuallyregret selling mine, I saw it the other day and follow it for a little but had to leave so they didnt call the police. tint was 15% all around and I still had the sticker of the dealer it came from in North Florida and the markings of where I tried to remove sticker i had placed on the upper left of the trunk
@@Jerone5740 That's awesome, Jerone. I can relate. I had a 1987 Ford Ranger that I purchased brand new and when I regrettably sold that puppy, I would spot it from time to time and follow it. I still miss that truck. By the way, I DID get my Ford 500 SEL and I love that thing. What a smooth-riding car it is. Your video sold me on buying it. It was kept in a garage so it's in mint condition. I'm looking forward to keeping it for a long time.
I have a 2006 Ford 500 sedan 4D it is making a loud sound on the front passenger side under the hood of course I was worried it was the CTV transmission but I was told the transmission's in the driver's side help please...
Loved my 500, especially at high speed on the highways. A shame the CVT went bad at only 120K, and the crooks wanted $4K to fix it. I just couldnt spend that much so now got a boring but reliable Toyota. The 500 was so true to the road, like U barely had to steer it and the seat height in between a typical car and an SUV was perfect. Load 5 big adults and a ton of luggage in this baby and go cross country. A shame the Feds forced Ford to build this shitty CVT trans to milk an extra mpg out of that 3.0 liter.
Ok , here’s the problems I’ve had, a/c around 90,000, six speed transmission around 163,000 and here’s what both shops said when I carried it to get it fixed, the a/c shop said the a/c compressors for that year are known for going out and the transmission shop said the same thing about the transmission. A/c was about 1200 and transmission valve body was 1500. The top engine mount will go bad early and the driver side heated seat stop working around 120,000, and power steering pump went out about 140,000. Never had any problems with engine or breaks, sunroof, doors still close like they did new, transmission shifted like a dream until 163,000 and then it was just the valve body that they fixed not the whole transmission, all you got to do google what I’ve told you and your will start learning About the problems I described with this car, and you might not never have theses problems or they might have already been fixed
There is a inexpensive little scroll valve that get's stuck in the air compressor unit on the Ford five hundred. It only cost about $30, and I had a mechanic install it because you have to recover the freon but labor was only $50. It's a common Ford 500 problem. You should have the transmission fluid changed around 60,000-75,000 miles to keep transmission in good condition. I have around 150,000 miles on my 2006 Ford five hundred limited, with the Asin transmission, fwd. I had to have the alternator replaced, and recently the starter. That is about be the only out of ordinary repairs I've had to have done. I bought mine new, and still like it. I've had it 14 years, and I do regular maintenance on it, and it runs good. When I replaced my brake pads and rotors I went with better quality parts, Akebono parts, they make great brake parts. Thanks, John G
Holy crap that’s a lot of miles! I’ve got a 2006 Limited all-wheel-drive, but I got it from my father, he bought it brand new but hardly ever drove it because his health started declining shortly afterwards. Thank god he is doing better now, although he’s 83, and has had a triple bypass and a repaired broken femur that was never supposed to heal but did, his best friend was dying of cancer, and had to get rid of everything he owned, including his 2013 Nissan Ultima, so my dad bought it from him as a favor, just to take some stress off of him, and I inherited the Ford fivehundred......I got it this spring, he had just had the entire car serviced and tuned, with new brakes and new fan belt, and it only had 103,000 km, which is 64,000 miles. Essentially I got a brand new car that is 12 years old, he kept that car so clean, it’s where it just came off the assembly line. He wanted to give it to me, but I couldn’t just take it, after all they are senior citizens, living on a pension, So the most he would except what’s C$5000. When I took it to my mechanic to have it certified, he could not believe that a 12-year-old car could look that good and have such low mileage. He told me to never ever sell it because I would never get the value it’s worth, but I was just curious if any of you out there wouldn’t know what this would sell for a flight privately sold it? Because I already have a 2006 Pontiac GXP, which is my baby, I’ve had her since she was brand new, and I refuse to give up, plus her weaker brother, at 2008 Grand Prix GT. I’m having difficulty trying to find the bluebook value, so if anybody can help me out I’d greatly appreciate it, thanks!
I have the limited it's like a truck it's not a sports car or an economy car either it's more of a luxury car like a Cadillac that was my opinion of what Ford was trying to do but the fusion was the better seller also focus and explorer now they have bronco which is cool
And I will give you a little technician advice if you want this car to last a lot longer than its life expectancy of on the transmission side there is a trick for the transmission to things if you have a transmission that has a light chatter what you want to do is drain the fluid out And put Honda fluid in it and put 1 quart of regular 30 weight motor oil in it not that synthetic garbage just 1 quart of motor oil and you will find that transmission wall shift like a Cadillac. It is an old school trick builders trick people sketch say oh that don’t work that’ll ruin the transmission. I’ve been doing it for too long, these people on U2 that think their mechanics are not there is some people out there that is actually a technician not a mechanic that doesn’t know, but people that actually do it for a living and been doing it for a long time no these old school tricks, and they do work Honda fluid in a Ford and 1 quart 30 white motor oil or make your transmission shift like a Cadillac and it will prolong the life of the trash mission these new school technicians don’t know it’s the old dogs out there it’s been around for years know the tricks of the trade. These young pops Just know how to throw parts at a vehicle. They don’t know how to read the data frame in the scanner latest know how to read the code and throw parts at it pull that eight ball out of your toolbox. I’ve seen too many want to be technicians throw hundreds of dollars in parts in a vehicle and have to take it to all school technician old dog found out it was a broken wire is all it was because they didn’t look at the data and the voltage to see what was actually going on? I see there’s a lot I can always tell when it is a new school technician want to be, that can’t figure the problem out because there’s too many new parts on it and I could tell the difference between the two if you got Joe blow off the street you might have one or two parts and he say oh forget this I need to take it to somebody knows what they’re doing because I’m putting too much money in this. I’m not fixing it Joe blue knows how to call it quits but these new school parts changers don’t know when to stop.
thanks so much, I already sold it and down... I mean upgraded to the 13' Taurus and now I treat my transmission fluid like gold, I replace the trans fluid around every 20k and or at the moment it feels like its shifting hard and it fixes any strange shifting. and I may look into that idea. thanks
And mine‘s 06 Ford 500 I put struts on it I put brakes on I put plugs on it even though it’s got 300,000 miles on it I don’t care I put over 5000 into it and I’ll put another 3000 into it the reason the insurance companies don’t like these cars because they are built like a tank and they do damage there not a tin can That’s why we pay so much insurance for these cars because they say they’re a luxury car they’re sporty that’s why the insurance is so high which is a joke just because the car is built right and it does damage to the tin cans out there it should be right that were paying high insurance rates when they should be paying higher interest rates for their tin cans E if I had to put a motor in a transit in this 500 I would do it I don’t care it’s cheaper than a note worried about the repossess guy the tow truck, the bank, the phone calls it’s paid off you don’t have to worry about it and I could do the work myself and I know it’s done, right I put the key in it start it and go I have three dash cam‘s on it so I am fully protected against these idiots out here that like that think the Beltway‘s and the interstates are the Indy 500 and they’re a race car drivers and they’re not and if you watch them at 80 miles an hour the car is fishtailing all over the place they can’t handle that type of speed because the car is not set up for it these 500s with a big wheels suspension they’re heavy built I can handle those speeds and I can stop on a dime because I use semi metallic pads I don’t use that cheap ceramic garbage pad that gets hot sticky Anghami when you try and stop you to slide to a stop with the Semi metallic it’s got the copper in it. He keeps the pads cool your pads are not running hot all the time to cool. Your brakes are more stop and power you have and no I do not use that synthetic motor oil in this. The reason I don’t is because there is no detergents in it and it will sludge up and destroy the motor and one thing I do use is a Ford OEM filter because it has the anti-drain valve in it so the oil will not drain back and you won’t get that whole start up and not only that I see people using Fram on Fords. That is the worst thing in Hazlet take that filter off and run it without it because that’s all you’re doing. They’re filters breakdown and oil filter. Sucks it up and plugs up the system. You drive a Ford you put a Ford filter on it it will protect it. You drive a Chevy you put a Chevy filter on it. There’s actually a website and a company that done testing on oil filters and they will show you what Fram and wicks and all the filters out there which ones are the worst ones out there and you will be shocked once you watch video
