Dude capaldi is so under rated. I was at an age where tenant had left and Matt was in the middle of his run. When Capaldi was announced people kept complaining he was too old but he had the coolest monologues and the most unique episodes. It was like that cool grandfather who almost shouldn’t be as old as he is.

I miss Punk Rock Grampa Doctor 🥲 Personally I have a hard time with his first season, but I feel like the writing did Capaldi a disservice. He was a little too cold and a little too outwardly cruel (even if "on the inside he's still a good guy") but man as soon as they let him loosen up and open up he soared from probably my least favorite doctor to one of my absolute favorites of all time. I actually wish he would have had a longer run- I wish Bill had too, I thought their dynamic was absolutely fantastic and tragically almost never talked about.... Also wish they didn't do her as dirty as they did

Too old to play the Doctor, what a silly complaint. All an actor needs to be able to play the Doctor is an ordinary level of physical fitness and the ability to play exaggerated mood swings, everything else is free to vary

  • @kayespace

I just realised when he asked "What do you think?", he wasn't talking about his outfit. He was talking about the regeneration. So much hinged on that question and you can see the moment that Clara realised that and smiled. That smile said "ok, I accept you as my Doctor". It's why I loved Capaldi's Doctor so much. He was the Doctor that really showed the other side of regeneration, the damage of reinventing your whole self every time, and the trauma of trying to figure out who you are only to be usurped by the next regeneration.

If she accepted him, then the scene that immediately followed this one, you know where clara legit says, "i dont think i know who you are anymore." Wouldn't have happened. She changed the subject because she was avoiding the question because she didnt like it or accept him. That's why when the phone rings capaldi says, "You should get that. it's probably your boyfriend". Sometime i wonder if people actually pay attention when watching movies or shows.

I think the big weakness of Capaldi's run was that they never really made good on the promise of this scene. The idea of a Doctor who spends a good portion of his time running around and correcting the mistakes made by his prior incarnations, without actually causing temporal paradoxes, could be legend.
Imagine an episode where he intervenes to keep the astronaut from The Waters of Mars from killing herself, while still allowing Tenet-Doctor to believe it happened. Then he helps her fake her own death, and takes her several generations into the future, so she can see the universe her descendant (who'd been inspired by her life) created.

This whole episode was for the hating fans.
The fans the didn't want an older man to be the doctor.
When the doctor is sleeping and translating for the dinosaur and he says "You can't see me. Can't see me." - that was for those fans.
When Vastra accuses Clara of being shallow and Clara goes off on her....that was for those fans.
And he later asks Clara "Would you be cross if I hadn't changed my face?" - THAT was ESPECIALLY for those fans.
And then when Matt Smith calls Clara and tells her to help him. And The Doctor says "I didn't need to listen. That was me talking. I'm not on the phone. IM RIGHT HERE. You look at me and you can't see me. Do you know what that's like? Just see me. Just see me."
    IT WAS FOR THOSE PEOPLE.
The Doctor is not a young man. He's very old.
And if you really are a true Doctor Who Fan.....The Doctor is The Doctor. And he always will be.
Peter was, in my opinion, the most real depiction of what a 2,000 year old man would be like. He was the realist Doctor.
And when that ring fell from The Doctors finger....I cried real tears.
    I MISS HIM DEARLY
