Thank you for the video! I now understand what noise is coming from my 2002 Honda Civic Coupe 1.7 Vtec , I just replaced the clutch kit (clutch plate, pressure plate, clutch release bearing) but the noise is still there. So now I know that it's the input shaft whining noise. I will have to get that fixed. I can also learn to live with that noise (which is only noticable when in neutral / first / second gears) plus there's no other problem with shifting gears and car pulls in every gear like it should. It's just sometimes this annoying noise comes up when car is not running.
Input shaft bearing is located on the inside of the transmission, the bearing directly behind the throw out bearing is the pilot bearing. Referring to what you said pre 6:30 on video.
OMG You're the man. I think it would be cool to be able to understand, repair and modify a transmission. Is it possible to change the gear ratios by adding or removing gears?
Like the video, maybe in the future you should try an break down of the counter and main shafts. I know you did the top but the rest would be a good learning tool.
Question for a ITR LSD 1998 spec the axle sits flush to the trans and out of no where loops out a bit then sits back flush ive tryed 4 different axle and the teeth on the side that goes into the trans get a little messed up i ran out of ideas on what to do thinking of dropping the trans and getting inspected. But it i hope u get to read his
Nice video. Very helpful as I am into a Honda D series transmission for a D16 swap into a first gen Civic. 220 miles on it but assuming Hwy miles as Synchros look mint. My main question I have is the with the main shaft bearing at the top of the Main Shaft (above the 5ft gear synchro). Mine spins great and is quiet. BUT - how much play should I have in it...whats typical or normal? Mine has some......I assume some play is taken up once the shaft is in the cases with some load on the shafts but not sure how much is too much? Curious to see what those ones have ? thx!
I have a 2012 Accord 5 speed manual 4 cylinder. It will not go into first gear whether the engine is running or not. The slave cylinder will fully push the release fork when the clutch pedal is depressed. Any ideas why this is happening? Bent shift fork or what should I look for during disassembly?
thank you so much for your didactic video. Can ı ask a thıng about atf dipstick.? ı went to honda service for rutine control. After 10 days ı wanted to check transmıssıon fluıd. ( ı have 1997 civic automatıc transmıssıon). ı took dipstick and ı shocked... in the middle of the dipstick, there is a mechanic damage.. as if milled with a 45 ° angle. but it didint break off.. What could cause this event??dipstick can touch any shaft or any gear teeth ???
Hi, I have a S80 Type R LSD gearbox, b18c. I can shift into all 5 gears with no issues besides reverse. It feels like there is a wall preventing me from shifting into it. Any ideas what it could be?
It could have something to do with the linkage or it could be the reverse idler gear or the reverse change holder that moves the reverse idler gear up and down to engage reverse inside the transmission. It's possible that your shift boot isn't allowing you to go all the way far enough to the right and down. Try pushing your shifter as far to the right in neutral as possible and then go down and see if it goes in, if it does then it has something to do with your shift linkage being to stiff or tight or out of adjustment from the bushings underneath the shifter.
hey fastlane. i have a strange problem ive never seen before. i have a b18 with the stock LS trans and my problem is that sometimes ill have transmission fluid on the TOP of the transmission. almost as if its coming out of the vent nipple on top. no visible leaks anywhere else after cleaning and degreasing.ill be driving around town and it shifts fine and everything..but ill come home and look at the trans and ill have fluid sitting on top... if you have any insight id greatly appreciate it
Hey really love your videos they helped me 4 years ago take the dive into fixing my first transmission but now I'm stumped... I have come across 2 transmissions so far where the mainshaft it sitting almost 3/16 to 1/4 inch higher than the countershaft do you have any idea what that might be?
Polo Built I would say either something on the main shaft isn't pressed in all the way properly, adding the extra height, or the shaft isn't sliding into the bearing all the way on the casing. Just my thoughts. The countershaft sits higher so it can lock into the snap ring when the case goes on over. Maybe that's what you're seeing. Check out my video on how to clean and reseal a bseries tranny. I shoow how to put it back together.
Nthefastlane hey im having a weird noise on my Em1 i believe is with my transmission b16 s4 , im not sure what it is , inputshaft bearing ? it makes like a scraping noise when i decelerate ( let go off the gas pedal ) while in gear , i posted a video of it on my account if you can please watch it and tell me with your experience !
I believe the CRV transmissions are like H-series internals. I don't think it's possible to swap LS or GSR internals into a CRV. Might be able to swap a few parts, but I don't believe any of the gearing. Especially with an AWD Crv transmission.
There is a 14mm bolt from the cover that holds the rev gear shaft in place. The only way it would fall out of place is if the bolt was not screwed into the cover into the rev rod. So why are u saying that hoeing was when u split the case. Maybe it just fell out after u took the bolt out. And case off
@Nthefastlane help please i took my case off to reseal it & now i have no nuetral and only have like 3 gears i have to take the case back off what could possibly be going wrong ?
Hi I have a civic ek B-series in the transmission it won't select reverse its like something is blocking it, have you any idea what it could be? Thanks
hey i just opened up my transmission and removed both the mainshaft and countershaft. i have an excessive amount of play on 1st and 2nd gear on the countershaft, and its making the rolling marbles noise i was getting from my transmission when it was hooked up to the car (as i rolled from a stop into 1st and sometimes 2nd). i immediately bought the parts from honda, but just wondering if your idea is the same as mine - the needle bearings on the 1st and 2nd gear are bad? If you'd like i can take a video and show you. any help is appreciated!
Hey bro on New Year’s Eve I was coming back home from work and I was on third gear going around 45 mph and the car suddenly locked the breaks and didn’t want to get out of gear, I had to force it pop out.. any ideas what happened? Had to tow it back home
Thanks, I just put mine together and couldn't rememer if I had properly aligned the selector with the idler gear, you had me in doubts for sure haha. All my gears work fine on the bench including reverse so I guess I'm good then!
Hey, I just replaced the bearings in my 5sp , and now when I spin my differential out of the case I get this clicking noise like the planetary gears are moving up and down any ideas?
I have question for For D-series Transmission let says i m on the stop so i want to put the car on the first gear but do not want to go in to the first gear have to star drive the car on the 2 gear to make move the car do it to me some time and some time with the clutch all the way down make noise i think maybe my clutch is running out
i have one for you my b16a trans won't shift into second gear after like 3000 rpms but fine standing still at idle all other gears are fine no matter what i just opened my trans and looks like little to no wear no chunks missing I'm stumped and so is everyone else i have asked
Please help. My 2001 GSr is making a gring noise at 4k rpms and around 82 mph. Im not sure why. It will stop after i go below that speed or rpm. I first noticed it after twking a roud trip and traveling about 100mph or more the entire trip. It started out as a slight winding noise and then stopped until i got on the highway again. Im able to shift in snd out of gears well.
What if it goes into all gears with the clutch engaged? No resistance, and the shift linkage is all connected fine, as well as the clutch pedal feeling the same and having the same bite point it always has.
It is possible with the vehicle off to put it in gear without pushing the clutch. But if there's no resistance at all, like a click, I would suggest maybe your clutch pedal isn't fully releasing the slave cylinder. Possibly the clutch pedal isn't adjusted properly. There's two ways to adjust the clutch pedal, you adjust the master cylinder shaft to the clutch pedal, and you can also adjust the clutch pedal sensor distance to so-called fine-tune the pedal play. Sometimes you can fully extend the master cylinder adjustment and still have pedal play, or no pedal play which is keeping the clutch engaged, that's when you adjust the clutch pedal sensor switch to pick up the slack or remove the engagement. Hope this helps.
@@Nthefastlane I also thought that may of been a potential issue but the car was fine for about a year now. Thats the last time I changed the clutch. Its on an exedy oe replacement, and has shown no signs of ware. With this issue it goes into all gears with the clutch engaged like it would with the car off, but only now it does it with it on. There's no resistance anymore. I believe it may the SCHA, but i was told that if that was the case then the shaft that the shift linkage sides into would rotate around freely.
I would narrow it to down to something's wrong with the clutch or the pressure plate. If you're able to shift the gears without pushing the clutch when you're driving it, then the clutch isn't fully engaged to the flywheel somehow. An unlikely suggestion would be that the clutch fork doesn't have any anti-seize on it and it's getting stuck. Highly unlikely. The other idea would be if you had your flywheel resurfaced and did not step the flywheel by removing the same amount of material you took off the clutch surface, and then take it off where the pressure plate mates to the flywheel, therefore the clutch never fully engages because it's a few thousands off causing less pressure. The last idea would be either something's wrong with the pressure plate, or the clutch is just worn out.

Might be a CV axle issue. Have a look at your drive axles. Sometimes when people repair disc brake pads they bend the dust shield behind the brake rotor. Might want to have a look at that as well. It could be rubbing on the brake rotor when you make a hard turn.
