As a Bolton fan myself the only thing that’s bothered me about the summer so far is recruitment. You have of course Carlos Mendes Gomes which I think is an absolute cracking signing and then you have the likes of Nathan Baxter which I think is a fabulous replacement for James Trafford. But the only things that effected Bolton this summer was officially getting people through the door. Kane Wilson was meant to sign for us as well as Keanu Baccus from St Mirren and Florian Flick from Schalke with the last two failing because of a visa permit or summat. But there’s still some time left of the window and other things happening behind the scenes. Good luck with the season pal and hope Pompey get promoted aswell as us and derby. I'm liking the signs at Fratton park , plenty of signings and a revamped Milton end but from experience pre season expectations aren't worth anything once a ball is kicked in anger . I can remember so many seasons that disappointed , but on the other side of the coin some pleasant surprises . I believe we have always been promoted from this level as Champions .
(Charlton fan) fourth for us is fair, we impressed against Millwall in pre season, beat wealdstone and gillingham too. May and Camara are looking incredible. Our transfer window is the best we've seen in years. so anything below 8th would be disgraceful this season, fair play to you for putting us 4th
Your predictions sounded fair to me. As a pompy fan i hope we can get the formula right this season. Watching Plymouth get promoted last season and seeing what plans they have for this up and coming season makes me hope portsmouth can have the same vision and be rewarded for all the signings this season.
Cobblers fan here and I can see why you’ve put us down there as recruitment has been tough with ambitious League Two clubs taking many of our targets according to our management. If we can avoid the same injury problems that we had last season though, I think we’ll be fine. Personally I don’t expect us to do any better than 18th.

I was thinking we would be put in mid table but I agree with you top 6 is definitely a very capable marker , I do think there is a striker coming in that is someone that can hit 20 goals I hope I'm right . Looking in from the outside, I get why people are not sure about Northampton. As a fan though, I'm more confident this season than I ever have been going into league 1. We will see in about 40 weeks though
I think we'll (Wigan)be mid-table pushing playoffs... We're in a way better position than last time we were relegated when we were in admin and finished 20th. We've brought in young players who were trained at top prem clubs and I do expect us to have a solid year, followed by being the best League 1 club ever the following season winning our 5 League title!
I believe far too many people are writing Fleetwood Town off this season due to off field issues. Living locally to the club it looks as though these issues are resolved from the clubs side and looking at their squad and having a promising manager in Scott Brown I think they will be a surprise package for the playoffs this season. I also believe that Pompey will be the team to really push Derby/Bolton this year and we could quite possibly sneak top 2 if we stay fit. PUP
Fleetwood can't go any further ffs ,all the hype about a club with 2,000 fans and a ground that holds 5,000 ,club might be ok for now piley who's now doing 13 yrs in prison ,former owner who was willing to lose money with them ,whatever he's done because he's inside and can't be anything to do with the club ,he's obviously passed them to a relative but when pileys faded away and his money ,the cods will only go one way that's down 😂
To get promoted, you need a squad of Championship standard players like Ipswich and Plymouth had last season. I just don't see it with Pompey right now, but we won't know until we see a few competitive games. I'm hopeful we can do well in what will probably be a relatively weak L1 this season. In the meantime, I'll do my usual and bet against Pompey reaching the top 6 at evens,so at least I make a few quid if it's a duff season.
The view from here in Maine Tom seems like a good assessment of the upcoming season. After tomorrow's game against Bristol City I think we might have a better understanding as to where Pompey might fit in. I would take 3rd but I'd rather have 2nd,of course, and go up automatically!

It's been quite eye opening seeing how little other League 1 fans know about the quality in Wigan's squad. Including a youth set-up that is probably the best in the division. Same goes for off the field matters. I doubt you'll find many Latics fans who think the club will finish below mid-table. In fact there could be disappointment if we don't put in a play-off challenge.
I mentioned the group you have as well as how good Maloney is at dealing with this kind of situation. Just raises an eyebrow when Whatmough and McGrath leave due to repeated failures to pay wages. I appreciate that was the effect of a previous regime but it’s still a little alarming. I hope you have a strong season!
McGrath hasn't played a league game for us in his time here. Whatmough's agent was pushing for move long ago. I could say the same about Scully who never looked upto it and Power who's best days are behind him. The only loss is Keane, but again, he was in and out of the team under Maloney. The direction of the club can be indicated by the long-term deals for Hughes & Asgaard. Two players who will be valued in the £5m-£10m range by the end of this season. I'll honestly be surprised if Wigan aren't one of the top six sides in terms of points haul. Then we'll have to see where the points deduction puts us.

One of the more accurate predictions imo. Argyle are out of the league so I'm less biased than i was a year ago. That being said, I'd place Shrewsbury and Fleetwood a few places higher, relegate Cambridge, and move Exeter down to 20th.
I just want my prediction on record, sadly I can't join in with the optimism. I would have been more impressed with the signings if I had heard of any of them, but that might just be my ignorance. Our main problem last season was lack of goals and I can't see it being any different this season, especially as Colby is not fully fit. I worry that we can be overwhelmed in midfield, particularly by the more physical teams. Also I have been concerned by Mousinho's lack of tactical nous when things are going badly. But hey ho, still looking forward to the start of the season.

I agree 100% with Reading in 8th but we may not be able to confirm the signings or get any more in possible points loss and ownership a mess I think we can finish 8th but if things get worse 21st - 24th wouldn't suprise me either mate just subscribed
Dont know why people think we'll struggle so much. Our squad is play off level at least. I think we'll miss out on them because of the deduction but we'll be nowhere near relegation
Tommy Leigh and Jenson Weir are two standouts but the extent to which those are viable options is the question. We certainly need one though, all of our most successful teams have had them! Gary Roberts, Paul Merson…

Some 20+ years ago I lived for at short time in Portsmouth, and have thus since been following Pompey with half an eye. You've recruited well, the squad looks stronger and deeper now and on the surface of it looks ready to mount a serious promotion challenge. That said, what in my eyes will be equally decisive is whether the players, or most of them, can deliver under pressure especially at home. The crowd should be an advantage but I feel that sometimes it backfires because the players are desperate to do well in front of the supporters. This is by no means anybody's fault. It's just psychology and the way things are. Here's to hoping for a South Coast league derby in the 2024-25 Championship season. PUP!

I should be I bit sad seeing Shrewsbury go down Just A few years ago They Were in the playoffs but if they do get Relegated to league 2 I think they will go straight back up to league 1 and maybe to championship in a few years time. anyway I think Stevenage will go down because I had them 14th in league two last season and I want to see them win it.

Not sure where you're getting your info from on Blackpool. We're certainly not skint and there's no embargo or going to be. We've been fined for the match against Wigan but that's nothing to do with our ability to sign players nor will it lead to points deductions. Fleetwood are in more trouble. Their owner has recently been banged up for 13 years and if POCA applies, who knows what will happen to them.

I think you mean, there literally is not any team with a better play off record than blackpool, best play off record of any team in England 🍊🍊

I agree 100% with Reading in 8th but we may not be able to confirm the signings or get any more in possible points loss and ownership a mess I think we can finish 8th but if things get worse 21st - 24th wouldn't suprise me either mate just subscribed

Some 20+ years ago I lived for at short time in Portsmouth, and have thus since been following Pompey with half an eye. You've recruited well, the squad looks stronger and deeper now and on the surface of it looks ready to mount a serious promotion challenge. That said, what in my eyes will be equally decisive is whether the players, or most of them, can deliver under pressure especially at home. The crowd should be an advantage but I feel that sometimes it backfires because the players are desperate to do well in front of the supporters. This is by no means anybody's fault. It's just psychology and the way things are. Here's to hoping for a South Coast league derby in the 2024-25 Championship season. PUP!

Fratton Park is one of the best places to play football when it's all going well, but one of the worst places when things are going against you - but as you say that's the nature of the beast and we have to deal with that properly. I should be I bit sad seeing Shrewsbury go down Just A few years ago They Were in the playoffs but if they do get Relegated to league 2 I think they will go straight back up to league 1 and maybe to championship in a few years time. anyway I think Stevenage will go down because I had them 14th in league two last season and I want to see them win it.

Not sure where you're getting your info from on Blackpool. We're certainly not skint and there's no embargo or going to be. We've been fined for the match against Wigan but that's nothing to do with our ability to sign players nor will it lead to points deductions. Fleetwood are in more trouble. Their owner has recently been banged up for 13 years and if POCA applies, who knows what will happen to them.
From a friend of mine who is a Blackpool fan, clearly doesn’t know the club as well you do! I don’t remember saying you were skint, and Fleetwood’s concerns are reflected in their prediction. Thanks for watching.
