    This was a Godsend. I have been doing PC tech work for 20+ years and have to admit, since the release of Win10, I personally haven't done a lot with 7. Have a good buddy that uses 7 on his laptop and cant update to 10 for software requirement reasons. Long story short, he had an issue which required everything be reinstalled fresh. Jumped through so many hoops trying to find good software for install but could never get updates to work. Found this and my prayers were answered. I was able to get the files from the links using Microsoft Edge(they don't work in Chrome)and everything went fine. Wish I had found your install media to begin with. Would have saved a few hours. Thanks so much for your work here. Great tutorial and easy to follow.

    Hey I’ve got one question. Is any update which is installed by those official tools, to get the automatic updates listed in the windows update application? I ask, to disable and uninstall certain updates, which are not necessary.
    If it’s not listed, how should I update to get all updates which I only „need“ and which not.
    Again: are any of these updates listed in the windows update application to get an overview which are installed actually on the operating system.

    I recently went through the rigmarole... I mean... um... process of installing a fresh copy of Windows 7 Ultimate and updating it for a totally fresh and updated Windows 7 master virtual machine to use in future, and only had to install the first servicing stack in order to get the results in this video. I didn't need to install anything else before or after in order to consistently get 169 important updates available at around 1.5 Gb in size... and I can also confirm that this is the case for the Professional edition too. The initial search for updates took around 12 minutes every time and then 3 hours 30 minutes to download and install the updates that I chose to do in 6 batches which required 4 reboots. So this begs the question of the need to install all those other updates before or after manually and what difference they actually make. Please know that you have an excellent channel and I'm not questioning the legitimacy of you personally. Maybe you just followed this methodology from an uncorroborated source that didn't do extensive testing. Windows updates always were a very strange process with equally odd results in consistency throughout certain points in history.

      @FlyboyHelosim 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@adventuresinnostalgia I am truly passionate about Windows 7 and it's the OS that I've spent the most time with, having used it since it came out... not to mention that it's the last version of Windows that was truly desktop-oriented. I am also passionate about extending its life as long as possible to run natively, and of course it could be used forever in a virtual environment. I've done extensive testing and documenting of the results when it comes to installing Windows 7 fresh and updating it in since end of support. When I created my master VM, it was the the first time I'd encountered the 80072EFE update error and needed to get around it, so I looked online for a workaround. Low and behold, it was the newest common error that many people faced but was also reported as being an issue years ago. The guides that I read only mentioned that one Microsoft KB fix (the servicing stack) to get past the error, which is all I did... and it worked. I didn't even know about the "Service Pack 2" convenience rollup at that point. After doing further research since then, it would also appear that some regular (i.e. non-paying, non-business) users are still getting security updates even without the ESU bypass. As previously hinted, the Windows Update procedure is a truly bizarre animal in how it operates and how it determines which systems are eligible for what updates. I've also tested the WSUS Offline Update program (a favored third-party substitute) which streamlines the update process, but that produced its own undesirable caveats and nuances to the point I can't even recommend that as an alternative... but that's another story. Anyway, I truly appreciate your video on this and if nothing else it's provided yet another set of options in order to get what us diehards can only aim for... which is a way of getting the latest updates in the most economical way possible. If Microsoft just released a fully updated version of Windows 7 it would save so much trouble.

    Thanks! Here's my experience following these tips:
    I started with a Sony Vaio laptop, fresh restored from the restore partition with Windows 7 Home Premium.
    In the first step I get the message that it doesn't install one package, made a second attempt after restart, seemed to work, as the third re-attempt said it was already installed. Good.
    When starting the next part, servicing pack update, the download doesn't start when clicking the link in the new browser window, I had to copy the link to the main window to get it to download (then the same for all these KB-packages from that page). When installing I get notified that the update KB4536952 has not been installed. Trying again doesn't help.
    Continue anyway?
    Sure.
    No problems with the rest of the guide, it's currently at update 53 of 192.

      that's fantastic to hear you got Windows Update working again! On checking for missing patches, there isn't built-in software, but I can offer a couple of ideas. There are some third-party tools that claim to scan for missing updates, but be cautious - some might be unreliable or even bundled with malware. If you're considering this route, I recommend researching the tool thoroughly before using it.
      As for the 250MB download, that sounds like a reasonable size for a cumulative update containing multiple patches. It's good practice to keep Windows Update running to ensure you have the latest security fixes.
