- Actor and author Mackenzie Phillips talks about her very public fight for sobriety and shares her passion for helping others in that fight.
This interview was shot at Innovations in Recovery 2014, where Mackenzie was a keynote speaker.
Such an intelligent, brave and worthwhile
Woman. A true hero who helps others with sharing her story.
I’m so happy for her that she got out of that life and now she is helping others battle there addictions. God is good.
And yet this “good” God allows innocent children and animals to be abused and murdered every single day.

And your comments are not gonna make me think otherwise he’s the best thing that’s ever happened to me I suggest you kneel down and ask him if he is real to make himself real in your life and I will pray for you.
I can’t even explain how happy I am for her to be alive & so strong! I’m proud of her sobriety and it had to be extremely difficult considering what she was trying to avoid in her head. I love you Mackenzie❤️!!!!!
She's so truthful no beating round the Bush when she talks about her past struggles and I admire her greatly for that . She gives hope to others who have similar experiences and are afraid to speak or even worse are disbeleived especially about incest . She's a great survivor a real inspiration . Well done McKenzie.

I'm so glad that she is sober and using her life constructively. I pray that she realizes it was Jesus all along and she seems to have a hard time deciphering between" God and the universe" and I pray she realizes God was with her all along.
Thanks for sharing this. I'm not even sure how I ended up watching this, but I found it so interesting and eye-opening, especially the discussion about how modern culture and media treats addiction. We really need to stop laughing and pointing fingers and people going thru these kinds of struggles.
I don't know if people are laughing at addicts but there's definitely a negative stigma attached to it and that makes it so much harder for people to seek the help they need.
Addicts are afraid to come forward because people judge them and think of them as mentally unstable or morally corrupt.
Even those who become addicted to prescription medications that are prescribed by their doctors feel as though it's their fault and there's something morally wrong with them and others think so too.
In Portugal they have legalised recreational drugs and they are using the budget they used to use to convict drug users to help rehabilitate them.
Throwing addicts in prison for extended periods is not the answer.
The programme in Portugal is doing extremely well.
When the stigma and punishment is gone then people come forward and get help and become productive members of the community and the funds to help them acheive that are there because they're not being wasted on tracking down and imprisoning low level users who aren't hurting anyone but themselves.
It's not as though most users are dealers or pushers.
It costs the government- therefore the citizens paying taxes- millions of dollars to house inmates convicted of nonviolent drug offences when that money could be going towards rehabilitation, education and prevention.
I want to read her book. Keep going, Mackenzie! (September 2023).
Mac you are a true inspiration and I'm enjoying hearing you speak in the various interviews I'm finding online. I'm in recovery and I'm encouraged to seek some support b3cause months down the track and I'm starting to think more and more about drinking etc.
tough love is simply stop enabling ,if my friend hadn;t showed me tough love, I would be dead
She is a great therapist, I am a recovering addict, alcoholic and what she said about I didn't know there was another way to live until I realized there was another way to live is the key to recovery. Our heavenly father is guidence of it of course.
i never did opiates or cocaine like many people have but I did have a problem with weed and drinking when I was a teen.. I got started when I was 12 by an older relative that would give me weed and beer.. they were 18.. I look at that age difference today and I think how the fuck could they do that to someone that young that they were suppose to be looking out for... but life got bad quick for me and by the time I was 18 I had quit for the most part.. pretty much out of fear.. I was lucky maybe ..idk

Thanks for sharing your thoughts and life journey in such an honest way. I too went through this. You are brave and strong. I don't understand why some doubt your story. Abuse and incest is not rare. Just because someone is, in the public domain doesn't make them God's. Father s should protect their daughters.

I've never been abused and I never abused drugs. But however I worked as a pediatric nurse for decades and I have cared for many ( more than I'd like to admit)
These poor children i took care of that gad been abused were going thru hell most especially the young children that were sexually abused by their parents...just a very sad sinerio...but I lways 🙏 prayed that even in a small way I made there life a little bit better!

I just had the strangest dream about this woman..it was like a horror story. I didn't really follow her story..but kindof heard about it.
I don't know why I dreamed of her
i am roughly the same age(1957) as Mac and she's always been in my consciousness. We share some same experiences although she could probably afford more drugs than I could. I just want to ask her; who was the drunk addict- Laura, Mackenzie or Laura? I am so happy that she is healthy and happy as we sally forth into our senior years.

Good on u girl the pain of her abuse was a direct result of what happened to her brave to tell her truth she is walking into a hurricane and that must be difficult ur a liar because of ur addiction and an addict because of ur past trauma great big revolving door so strong transparent not many victims can come forward speaking from experience not incest sa by adult and me 12 I'm still can't speak up because I never said anything to my parents or report it to police and get some justice it would break my parents hearts that they had no idea what happened to me it was that they were rubbish parents cuz they were not at all I just hid it well God bless x

I have no problem with people disagreeing but please don't mislead them. In PA you will become a better drug addict in rehab
Obviously if people are forced to go to rehab and are not trying to get sober, they will learn from others in the same situation.
It's the same as saying prison makes you a better criminal.
It depends on your own attitude and what you choose to do while you're there.
If you want to keep using or continue to commit crimes then those environments will help you find a way, but if you want to get clean and become a productive member of society then those places have the facilities you need to do that, to get help, and to move forward.
It's really up to you.

Tho a boon to rehabs, it is a Disservice to addicts /alchies to push the ad slogan "relapse is part of recovery". It may be part of some people's stories, but it provides an escape hatch for the addict thinking.. many many deaths due to relapse. Please stress one day at a time "continuous" recovery is the Hope. It's do-able
I wish there was a solution but unless you are hard core, I beg you not to go to rehab. I didn't even know the pregnant woman could get high in rehab legally, not medicated......high.. it was so gross

Did you see in the interview where he said that and she corrected him that relapse is part of the addiction not recovery. That’s the best reversal of that phrase imo.

good lord when a woman 18 years old she can comprehend what is abuse what is not and a normal half normal person wouldn't sstay on such abuse 10 years for drugs she is a sociopath
