“Why does this exist?” Because Apple has done no work on the AirPodsMax, but they needed to get the rest of the product line on USB-C. They gave you a few new colors and hoped no one would notice.
The reason they did this: according to Wired “Apple's hand was forced by the European Union, which passed a law in 2022 requiring phones, tablets, and cameras sold in the region to come equipped with a USB-C port by the end of 2024” So they came up on a deadline, which is why it’s the same product but with usb-c.

I believe you will have lossless audio if you connect the USB C cable to the headphone and then to your audio device like an iPad with USB C or a MacBook with USB C. There is a roaring trade in fake Airpods Max. The better ones are almost indistinguishable; some sound relatively OK and will even connect like Apple ones. I used to get fake Levis from Bangkok when travelling through, after I stopped thinking about it, they were Levis.
Are you not able to just use a USB-C to 3.5mm cable to achieve "closer to lossless" the same as you would before with the lightning to 3.5mm cable? What's different about these headphones?
A simple USB-C cable will give you lossless audio out of a USB-C iPhone playing lossless audio. The signal at iPhone's USB-C port is lossless digital, which can be fed directly into the AirPods Max, where it undergoes D to A conversion for playback. You can achieve the same with AirPods Max v1 by using a USB-C to Lightning cable. Also, the Lighting to 3.5 cable wasn't even "sort of" lossless if you understand how that cable worked. First, with an iPhone, it needed to be used in conjunction with Apple's Lightning to 3.5mm adapter. That adapter took the digital signal present at the iPhone's Lightning port and converted it to analog at the female 3.5mm end, which the male, 3.5 mm pin of the cable plugged into. But since APM are incapable of processing an analog signal, it underwent conversion again within the cable back to digital -- so you have two lossy conversions before the signal even gets to the APM Lightning port. Then once the digital signal is received at the APM Ligntning input, it has to be converted again back to analog for playback. If you took the iPhone out of the equation and simply plugged the 3.5mm pin into an analog headphone jack, the analog signal still underwent lossy conversion to digital within the cable so it could be received by APM, then was converted back to analog within APM for playback.
I have the lightning port one with the $35 3.5mm jack cable. I do have the wicked cushions for this. Yes it does make it more gym friendly because of the rubber wicked cushions. Still not recommended. But more usable with those wicked cushions. Air pods pro 2. Got over ear hook wicked cushions addons for the gym. Those are better for outside the gym. I bought these because I was excited on getting USBC on these finally. After I gathered up my thoughts. I ended up returning them. My take on this is that Apple are way too invested in the Apple intelligence stuff and for this reason they decided not to update these, but it is still weird why they did not at least put the H2 chip and upgrade the bluetooth. Also, I think that not many people are buying the Maxes, since the airpods pro 2 are extremely popular, more convenient, way cheaper, have more features and have consistently been updated with even more features.
I understand Apple has to deliver to shareholders and make $ each year. However, significant innovations with Apple have historically happened every 2-4 years. So, if you buy an Apple product on that cycle, you’d be very pleased.
I've never owned a pair mainly due to cost but at times I have been tempted when others show their transparency mode. I was given a pair of Beats Pro when I bought a back-to-school 2019 Macbook Air (horrible machine), and they are still going strong. Wasn't a fan of these originally, and nothing has changed, so why waste almost $600 dollars on these when there are better and cheaper options. Apple would be better off releasing iPhones every 4 to 5 years than wasting more time and money on these overpriced headphones.
The Beats Studio Pro headphones, also from Apple, have USB-C lossless audio, along with the noise cancellation and transparency mode, and spacial audio of the AirPods Max for a list price of $350 (regularly on sale for $200 or less).
do the airpod max 2024 work on ios 17? as i have iphone 15 still on ios 17 and no iam not update it because shsh blob which mean i need apple to sigh firmware to go back
They didn't add it because of cost. This update only happened because they know people have iPhone 15's and 16's and let people have the option for one cable while not doing much other than changing the port. I would guess as to why they haven't updated them yet is because they haven't sold enough in their minds to warrant investing on upgrading them. Or they sell so much why bother.
Small request: Watch a movie on either apple tv or netflix on an apple device with the APMs with spatial audio turned on. For me, this is the reason they exist. There are NO other headphones that I have ever heard that come close, and I've heard a lot of headphones, even in that price range. And ive gone down the rabbit hole of buying expensive DACs and amps and all that stuff. For music, APMs are average, but for movies on apple devices, theyre platinum tier across the whole industry.
Maybe, but I already have a surround sound system and sorry, it’s better than APM. If you’ve “gone down an audio rabbit hole” as you’ve claimed, you’d know that good speakers always beat good headphones. And APM are not particularly great headphones to begin with.
These Airpods Max cant work with Windows 11 using Sennheiser USB bluetooth connector that supports AAC codec (Apple's best codec of this headset). If I try to use microphone, headset gives poor mono sound quality. If I disable microphone, then I have some quite good stereo quality. Can't have both =/
There are many excellent headphones with similar features and quality (and they're all cheaper). I wouldn't use an Apple broduct with a Windows computer.
For music the Max aren’t that great. Good but not great. But me and my wife use them for watching movies on an Apple TV. And then they transform into something special.
Apples marketing is genius due to the loyal fan base but at any time a newbie can't be swept into the ecosystem and buy it all in one go like me. Not a MAC newb just a old user returning to the best IOS going, the best looking as well.❤❤
Don't buy the Beats studio pro, new version is completely lacking in any sort of apple chip, and second and main point why i returned the pair: left ear cup malfunctions sometimes and doesn't sample noise canceling properly for some reason causes more noise to be pumped into the left ear cup, which results in instead of silence extra noise being pumped in one ear. It goes away when you shut off noise canceling but this has been a known issue even for the last gen of studio pro, and they didn't fix it with last year's update. Only solution is to reset the headphones every time in order to get functionality back but the problem returns. Which then you bring into apple store, and they'll replace it for you but same issue will return regardless of hardware. My rec is to just get another brand for lossless.
@@Aves_1 Bro, I mentioned lacking of chip because Find my is very spotty, and there's no seamless multi-point switching. Noise cancellation when it worked was great, as was lossless audio through USBC cable. And, I really liked their some what flat response compared to other beats of old. But then you can't swap out the ear pads, well you can you've to pry them out, and glue a new pair in. All this kinda brings it on par making some of the other brands far more competitive.
Get the older model when on discount. These are amazing headphones (especially when you have multiple Apple devices) but they are way to overpriced. I'd say they should be around 400-450$ plus tax. For the USB C version, there is absolutely no way to use them wired at the moment as all the USB to 3.5mm cables do not work with this special snowflake headphones. The Lightning model can be used wired if you buy a 30$ cable from Apple. Things like this and the dumb case is why these headphones got so much shit. But when you judge them as wireless bluetooth headphones, they are amazing and despite being 4 year old design, they still can compete with the best from Bose, Sony, etc. The ANC is one of the best and the transparency is the best even today. Sound quality is subjective but instrument separation is awesome and these are far more balanced than the Sony or Senheisser. There is no system wide EQ in iOS but if are using a music player that has an EQ, they EQ quite well.
gotta say sucks when they brick 25 months after purchase, 1 month fresh out of warranty, and even after paying for a "fix" they malfunction in the identical fashion and eventually brick a second time. Otherwise great headphones!
Definitely not for color and charging port no way come on apple give me new tech in headphones that came out 4 years ago and that cost a arm and a leg. Disrespectful apple
apple's so-called air pods max still can't play their lossless audio and no on/off switch with usb-c thanks! eu or we still have a lightning jack. so just don't keep em! and just take them back.

How more does your average Joe need any more 'integration' ffs?

Face it they do make two less desirable items, vision pro and HomePod big boy. Add these in and a Magic Mouse and you will have Apples worst items. LOL
Apple Music kind of sucks. TY music is far better and louder than Apple Music. May get better performance with TY music. The fact that you can’t wear to the gym it’s a no for me. Yeah, that's what I say at the end of the video.
@@thejasontlewis I know. I watched the whole thing, but prematurely commented. 😀
do the airpod max 2024 work on ios 17? as i have iphone 15 still on ios 17 and no iam not update it because shsh blob which mean i need apple to sigh firmware to go back
The AirPods Max 2024 are not different than the previous AirPods Max. New colors. USB-C port. They are the same.
Agreed. Mine still sound good, and I like build, look and feel
Maybe, but I already have a surround sound system and sorry, it’s better than APM. If you’ve “gone down an audio rabbit hole” as you’ve claimed, you’d know that good speakers always beat good headphones. And APM are not particularly great headphones to begin with.
You are wrong !!!!
When heat dissipates, it actually reduces relative humidity and dries out the air
the wired earpods USB c have lossless audio for $19 so return all this other stuff and save your money
Why did Apple do make these? Because they know that people will buy anything that is new from Apple
Apple had to do something because many used these headphones completely naked. The EU forced Apple to change that. 😮
It’s because Apple can do whatever they want and they are reserving the other changes to AirPods 3, 4, and 5…
im using for 2 days 😊 Airpods Max Midnight. i love the ANC and TRANSPARENCY MODE
I love that on my air pod 4s with a better chip and no condensation and not costing half 1 grand 😊
The only innovation Apple has been doing for its products has been offering more COLORS for its previous versions
Lacking an apple chip isnt a reason yo avoid. The hardware issues on the other hand? Massive red flag
All this kinda brings it on par making some of the other brands far more competitive.
funny how they put the H2 chip on the $129 headohones but not in the $549 ONES
Don't eve get me started.
Bose ultra quiet the best now
I don’t buy those because they did not have physical buttons and knobs. The AirPods Max did. Preference makes the decision.
I'm just waiting for Black Friday
Still to this day could care less about owning these headphones
Imagine, you take the AirPods Max ubs-c then in 2025 they come with the AirPods Max gen 2 with H3 chip 💀 and water resistance 😢
Actually can you imagine Steve Jobs doing this event with no not one significant item. 😊
The gym I go to, I see a young lady wearing the AirPods Max…
Listening to your video on my MBP M1, and when you said that they're so well integrated with the apple eco system, blah, blah, blah... I suddenly thought..What about my old (already paired) Sennheiser PXC550's? So I literally just opened them up and popped them on my ears/head, and .....2 secs later..."Connected".......
How more does your average Joe need any more 'integration' ffs?
I like the case.
They really need to stop smoking the Gangi because this whole year of releases are really bad!!! And they really need to stop offering features that are not ready and only half baked!! Apple Intelligence! Vision Pro,these are but a few things that just are not ready for prime time!!!
Okay
AirPod Max 1.5?
I wouldn’t even go that far.
I see these in the gym all the time these silly individuals trying to wear over priced influencer headphones with zero water resistance I just laugh to myself.
no change, but I know the majority of people who watched this are still going to buy....lol including me
grab the Sony 5
Oh no…. Even the older yt creators hve begun using the unnecessary and irritating quick cutting. I hate this.
I saw a woman wearing the orange version looking very smug. They looked terrible. Pale washed out orange cups and a silly looking mismatched bright orange band. I guess some people wear them to show off that the can afford the latest and greatest products before anyone else. Like a pissing up a wall contest.
GIVE THEM TO ME RACHEL
Apple is a big joke. I love the different colors of the AirPods Max but I would never buy it 👎🏾
Rubbish earphones, not really 'pods' why do they insist on the missnaming?
The colors are all another attempt at getting people to buy the next AirPods Max once they release the real update. They are all off.
The only thing that’s changed is that you keep getting hotter every year!!😊
Not apples best time Jobs anyone
FFS guys, if you have reviewed the AirPods Max 1, please don't do it again with the AirPods Max 2 - unless you literally want to review colours and USB-C. There's nothing else to tell us. Stop being irritating. I watched the first 90 seconds and stopped. Bye.
So you made this video to cover your cost of the AirPods Max for yourself while we watched and you got paid… Yeah, I’m annoyed bro quality content going down.
What are you talking about? I make videos about this stuff. I covered the original AirPods so I felt like I owed it to my audience to cover this update. Why be so negative?
Face it they do make two less desirable items, vision pro and HomePod big boy. Add these in and a Magic Mouse and you will have Apples worst items. LOL
Apple Music kind of sucks. TY music is far better and louder than Apple Music. May get better performance with TY music. The fact that you can’t wear to the gym it’s a no for me. That field literally be the primary reason for them. Don’t know many people just walking around listening to big headphones for this price.
What’s TY music?
@@thejasontlewis Maybe meant YT (yourtube)?
Anyways, Apple's streaming/downloading is excellent. Spotify as well.
I even use Amazon a times.
